WLBT will cover this story tonight and trust me, it should be a good one from what I understand. The Hinds County Board of Supervisors hired a new Director for the Emergency Operations Center tonight. The vote was Supervisors Peggy Hobson-Calhoun, Doug Anderson, and Kenneth Stokes voted to hire the current director at Tougaloo College. There were three finalists, two of which were white, including the interim director Joey Perkins. What took place yesterday was a disgrace.
The Supervisors should have grilled each candidate behind closed doors. The position has been vacant since the board fired Director Jimmie Lewis several months ago. Four of the Supervisors did meet with the finalists in private. I did write four. The only supervisor who did not was Kenneth Stokes. He decided to interview only Mr. Perkins at the podium. In short, he gutted him in front of the whole room while nary a word of protest was given by the rest of the board over the treatment of a county employee. Start at the 4:05 mark. Just watch it. Stokes shows his stupidity and ignorance in spades. Having said that, the Board should have taken this behind closed doors instead of embarrassing this poor guy in front of everyone. I wonder if they would have done this to one of another race?
It should be pointed out most EOC Directors have a law enforcement background. The directors for Rankin and Madison do. Larry Fisher had one. Mr. Perkins has one. Want to guess who doesn't? The one hired from Tougaloo. I won't say any more as I don't want to steal Bert's thunder.

Trollfest '09
Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.
Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).
Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.
Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".
In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.
In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.
Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.
Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!
This is definitely a Beaver production.

Jackson Jambalaya is the home of Trollfest '07. Catch this great event which promises to leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Sonjay Poontang and his band headline the night with a special steel cage, no time limit "loser must leave town" bout between Alan Lange and "Big Cat"Donna Ladd following afterwards. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.
There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. Tom Head will give a reading for two hours on why he can't figure out who the hell he is. Cliff Cargill will give lessons with his .80 caliber desert eagle, using Frank Melton photos as targets. Tackleberry will be on hand for an autograph session. KIM Waaaaaade will be passing out free titles and deeds to crackhouses formerly owned by The Wood Street Players.

Can we not find one citizen in Anderson's district to file a complaint with the state about his capacity to serve on this board?
And Peggy, I hardly know ye.
Kenuff was just doing what he does best. Shining his ass.
" Get Some, Get Some!!! "
Exactly what kind of emergencies do they have at Tougaloo in comparison with Jackson?
When Kennuff says "(sic) there have to be some kind of standards in the county;" would those same standards apply to Robert Graham who impersonates a police officer?
KF, I absolutely love the fact that these bozos exist. It gives me a source of entertainment since cable TV has gone to crap. It's like they're playing work. Get them in the real world and they wouldn't know how to function.
How do we find out if Kenneth Stokes has a degree? What qualifies him to be a ringmaster in the circus known as the county BOS???? What an utter disgrace, have to wonder if there legal ramifications to discussing this personnel matter out in the open amongst the public....it was uncalled for and disrespectful to every county employee but mostly to Mr. Perkins who has been loyal to Hinds County even when sometimes its hard to be!
This was totally uncalled for! Mr. Perkins is more than qualified to do that job. Just because someone has a college degree does not mean that person is qualified for the job. Mr. Stokes should be required to publicly apologize to Mr. Perkins. If this was a white supervisor asking a black candidate in public like this everyone and there brother would be calling racism... NAACP, Rev Jackson, etc would be down here tomorrow raising holy hell
Kenny didn't know where the Education Center...Dang...thats down there near Fondren on Old Canton Road. Heck, I'm from Madison County and know where the Ed Center is.
As an African American I'm disgusted by the sight of stokes that whole display was racially motivated. Did he grill the black candidates , I think not. The essence of the BOS is appalling .
No, he didn't and you should be mad no one tried to take that into executive session or defend Mr. Perkins.
True Story:
"You don't promote from the bottom, you promote from the top."

Ricky Moore ring any bells???
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pT79nzulngE&feature=player_embedded
But my people will continue to elect these buffoons . Glad I live in Madison County.
unfortunitely he virus has spread from jackson to hinds county. I hope we can keep it from spreading any further out.
Hinds and Jackson are done. Kaput. End of story. It is time to move the Capitol out of the cesspool.
Gotta love some Kennuf! Silly sparking wiggles!
Kenneth @ 5:15 "There's got to be some kind of standards..." Can ANYONE believe he had the nerve to say that? That's HILARIOUS coming from him!!!
This is @ 6:15 not 5:15 I watched it again and I think Kenneth said, "...but it's got to be some kind of standards..." ~irony
Honest question here. Does anyone from the State Auditor's Office, State AG, or Secretary of State read this blog? The buffoonery that is the HCBOS, the election commissioner garbage yesterday, etc, etc. Is anyone paying attention?
It was a complete travesty! To take a hard working, dedicated knowledgeable and HONEST man like Mr. Perkins and subject him to that is absolutely disgraceful. He is very well know and very well respected in the police and fire community. He has spent many years working with and developing relationships within those ranks He has given so much to his community and county and all the citizens who live there to protect life and property in Hinds County. Mr. Perkins does not have a college degree, but what he does have is an extreme amount of training and experience in Emergency Management and he has honesty and integrity. Something that the Hinds County BOS has NONE of. From what I have heard this other guy does have a college degree but NO experience. Who would you rather have looking out for you and your family? Kingfish, I sure wish that you could get your hands on both the resume of the new EOC Director and Mr. Perkins and post them to this website. I have heard that Mr. Perkins' resume is 11 pages long. I think that the people of Hinds County should be able to see for themselves. Also, I am praying that Mr. Perkins does have recourse of some kind for what happened in that board room. He deserves it.
Well well Kenny, seems as though you have no idea about the Education Center (or anything else meaningful). Well the Education Center has only been in Jackson a mere 42 years. Guess it takes you a little longer than that to catch up. They are a private school with small classes in order to provide a highly individualized education. I am told that 96% of their graduates go on to attend college or establish themselves in responsible careers in public service,or business. But I guess that does not account for anything in this day and time. They also seek to develop the student not only in academics but also in character. But, I guess that record can't hold a candle to the student accomplishments of the schools in Jackson and Hinds County.
Got news for Overpaid Duane O'Neill. Ain't gonna be no Madison and Rankin drinkers of your One Region, One Vision, One Voice koolaid with the existing cast of clowns running Hinds and Jackson.
Oh yeah Kenny, don"t come back and say that the Ed Center an "all white private school" it is quite the oposite. Thay have always had students of all races and ethnicity.
Well well Kenny, seems as though you have no idea
That sums it up.
8:16,
Long answer to your last question: No.
What the What!!!! What the Bleep just happen! Really Hinds County Board gets dumber every time they meet. I am so sick and tired of the ignorance, I have a college degree but that doesnt make me smarter than anyone. Joey is more than qualified to do the work but yet again the board brings in someone based on color and not qualifications, to me experience out weights a degree alot of times! Again What the Bleep just happen!
Kenny Stokes ,Peggy Calhoon and Doug Anderson are about as smart as a bag of rocks. Mr Perkins knows how to handle that department and the county and he showed that during hurricane Issac! He and former Director MR Lewis, who was fired by the other dummy, both shared the same views. Now Whoever this Guy is that has NO experience and works in a Lab will need Mr Perkins knowledge to run the department. I hope he tells him nothing and lets see if our county will be storm ready. I also hope Mr Perkins finds a better job and leaves!I hear that members of the board are getting kickbacks from certain contracts! Airways!! Bert Please investigate!
My my my, how the tables have turned. Back in the day, blacks worked for years, gained an immense amount of experience and then ended up training whites for the higher positions. and you know why they were passed over, because they did not have a degree.
With that being said, I am in no way condoning what Sup. Stokes said and did to belittle Mr. Perkins. I thought that was a bunch of hogwash. I was actually for Mr. Perkins. I believe in promoting from within. Now don't get me wrong, I try to help my black brothers and sisters but in this case I don't feel that this the type of job that someone should be learning on the fly. you are talking about people's lives.
I would have promoted Mr. Perkins and then tried to see if Mr. young would accept the #2 position and that way if Mr. Perkins could not handle being Director then Young would have gotten some training and stepped right on in.
and to address an earlier comment. although I disagree with most of Sup. Stokes' stances, what makes him qualified is that the people elected him and we all just have to deal with it. GOD BLESS US ALL!!!!
Mr. Perkins ran it under Jimmie Lewis and has been running it for several months. Distinguished himself during Hurricane Isaac and also during the jail riot. When Jimmie was awol during the tornadoes last year, Perkins ran the department.
Has anyone heard of the college where the new director attended? His Master's degree is from American Military University.
Do we want someone with real world experience or someone with a 100% online degree?
Kingfish, you hit the nail on the head. He knew what to do and did it. He has always been that way and will continue to go above and beyond in anything he undertakes. And,despite all that has happened to him this week, he will not allow it to change who he is , or what he does.Believe me it will be the County's loss in this one.
College is way overrated unless your talking about the military service academies. The law enforcement experience and fire certifications makes Perkins attractive besides his valuable service at the agency.
