Hinds opines on whether Byram can play in its sandbox (Video of entire meeting)

The Hinds County Board of Supervisors went at it again over Byram and those infamous police radios. Do you think the Board discussed what to do with the radios they purchased that were not approved by the state or any of the other problems surrounding them? Nope. They were more concerned with letting Byram onto the Hinds County radio system and how much money to charge them? I'm still trying to decide if that is going to be classified as extortion or payback although users are charged a fee per radio for connecting to the Hinds County system. Here is the video and notice a certain supervisor looking straight ahead and not saying anything (Start at 20:00 mark):

Rest of BOS meeting (no radio discussion.):

Hinds EOC Director Jimmie Lewis said the county did not purchase the radios. However, a purchase order was issued on March 9, 2011 for the EF Johnson radios:

Miss Elizabeth Crisp covered the meeting in the Clarion-Ledger:

"I don't think we should treat Byram any differently than we treat the other municipalities," District 3 Supervisor Peggy Calhoun said. "Byram is (in) Hinds County just like the city of Jackson. It should not be an issue."
Until the issue is resolved, law enforcement officers between the two agencies will not be able to communicate by radio.
"My dispatcher will have to reach them by phone," Thompson said."

Ms. Crisp's article is a pretty good one as she is probably the best reporter currently at the newspaper and yes, that includes Mr. Mitchell. What is interesting is some of the comments on the newspaper's website about this story. Here ya go and they are not nice to Byram:

"Byram would have had their radios paid for from the E911 fund. Apparently there were communication issues with the Board of Supervisors. Rather than resolve those as professionals the City of Byram thought it best to spend yet another 232,000.00 of taxpayer money and buy their own. Passing that cost on the taxpayers of Byram. Good stewards of their money? Think not!"

"Regardless the real loss is to the citizens of Byram. Who, like it or not will foot the bill on these two sets of radios. One alderman of Byram stated on the news "we" don't even need to talk to the Board of Supervisors. Well guess what...you do if you want back up communication for your police officers in a safe way and want them to access Hinds Counties system. Again, grow up, get the chip off your shoulders and act like professionals. Make decisions that are best for the entire community of Byram not just ones that make you think you flexed your muscles a little more than the officials in the next appointed/elected position. Who is all of this negative publicity attracting to the City of Byram or Hinds County? Quickly, someone needs to take notice of all of the for sale signs going up in Byram. Most people will never speak publicly they sound off with their feet when they leave the community."

"Most people that have responded to this article appear to 'blindly' side with the Byram police chief and how he has handled this particular situation. There have been accusations of assumed kick-backs between the vendor of the radios ordered by the Board of Supervisors and a member or members on the Board. Mind you, non of these allegations have been proven. Of course no proof, just the accusation. The issue NOW says that the radios that were purchased were not the correct radios. However, when all of this started (read all previous articles on this), the issue was not the correctness of the radios purchased but in fact that the timeliness in which the radios would be received by the city of byram. Also, in a previous article of the CL, it was stated that the police chief in Byram wanted to have 'his own' installer to install the radios in the vehicles. I wonder why? Hmmm!!! This was mentioned as one of the reasons for the delay in the radios reaching the city. At this point, the type of radios were not the problem. It only became the problem when the chief couldn't use 'his own' installers. Perhaps 'YOU PEOPLE' should take a look at the police chief's installers to see what connection he has to them since you're looking at relationships between vendors and officials. I guess it's bad when people learn the 'game' that you play and start playing it just as well as you.

By the way, the chief may not use the radios for very long. Byram has municipal elections in 2012 and I'm sure the 'New" mayor and 'New" board of alderman will want leadership that they have chosen. It's just one of those things that makes you say Hmmmm!!!'

"actord_again you should be a little more creative in your username. You sound like bill o'oops reilly. A person has to be related to someone to have an informed opinion? Please!!! You continually reference the kingfish blog as if that's the gospel. That person along with you can keep your agendas. I focus on the truth. Your personal beefs with member of the BOS are your personal beefs. YOU PEOPLE masquerade as concerned citizens while only whining about someone messing with your gravy train. Well, your jig, as well as those like you, is up. Keep your foolishness for those who don't know any better and who don't possess the intellect to call you on your constant BS.

By the way, I, along with any other citizen can call the State Auditor's office and lodge a complaint that they will have to follow up on. It happens every day. I guess you and kingfish lodged that complaint. That's good. Perhaps others in Byram will do the same and request and investigation of the board of alderman and the chief of police. Stay tuned! The City of Byram's first audit should be interesting.

elizalouise----great post!!! Keep on telling the TRUTH!!!
"

Sigh.

Those fools who actually read the CL and post are just that, fools.

They have no knowledge of the details and will eat at the CL trough as though it is an in-depth, detailed, analysis when it is simply a summation of allegations (or in the case of the film from the Communications Board, facts).

Too bad they don't know when they are being fleeced. It is a shame how the BOS despite its actions, continues to receive support citizens of Jackson.

Perhaps they should take the time to read and learn before spouting off.

Take the time to learn? Jacksonites? Ha.

Robert Graham's 180 degree transformation from the know-it-all Sup who dominated any/all discussions regarding radios to his new persona as Supervisor Mute speaks volumes about his efforts to redirect the focus away from his own actions both inside/outside the boardroom especially regarding his connections to Stowers and Hargrove.

You can run Graham but you can't hide.

" You have the right to remain silent" good thing to remember when you are about to be arrested.

KF did I hear the discussion on the video correctly?

City of Jackson has the key and doesn't requires Hinds intervention to program radios.

But the control freaky Hinds Sups don't want to give Byram the key?

And did I hear Calhoun correctly. The other municipalities in the county are running on ..... Motorola radios?

Finally. Did anyone else notice that Crisp didn't include the many weeks now debunked notion that Hargrove was a paid consultant to Hinds? Guess they finally figured out over at the C-L that just because they report something doesn't make it a fact even if the original reporting is in error.

Oh, and I thought the formal business address for Northstar was in Port Gibson?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
