Madison County District 3 Supervisor D.I Smith proposed a resolution asking Canton to withdraw its lawsuit against Nissan yesterday at the regular meeting of the Board of Supervisors. The former Ranger introduced a motion that received a second stating
"1.The Board of Supervisors of Madison County does hereby oppose this action by the City of Canton.
2.The Board of Supervisors of Madison County does hereby call on the City of Canton to reverse its decision and drop the lawsuit against Nissan immediately."
The motion generated some interesting discussion with every supervisor, yes even Karl and Paul, stating they did not like the lawsuit nor support it. What was interesting was Mr. Johnson asked to have board attorney Eric Hamer and Chancery Clerk Arthur Johnston polish up the resolution. The board voted unanimously to allow them to do so. This website wholeheartedly supports Mr. Smith's efforts to condemn the Nissan lawsuit. Sure is nice to see one Republican with the balls to stand up to Barbara Blackmon and her gang.
Resolution:
WHEREAS, Nissan Manufacturing was recruited to Mississippi and Canton in Madison County in 2000 to establish a world-class automobile manufacturing plant.
WHEREAS, the State of Mississippi, Madison County, the City of Canton, and Madison County Economic Development officials worked tirelessly with the Mississippi Legislature to negotiate and pass a successful economic development package.
WHEREAS, a part of the negotiated and successfully passed economic development package included a fee in lieu of property taxes to the Canton Public School District and Madison County Schools for a thirty year agreement not to annex the site by Canton without written consent by Nissan Manufacturing.
WHEREAS, Nissan Manufacturing has now invested over $1.4 billion in the Canton manufacturing plant and has fully complied with the fee in lieu to the Canton and Madison County Public Schools. As an excellent corporate citizen, Nissan has provided countless other donations and participations in the community.
WHEREAS, in 2011, Nissan currently employs 3,300 workers at the Canton manufacturing plan and has approximately13 suppliers located on the Nissan Campus in Madison County.
WHEREAS, Madison County officials and the Madison County Economic Development team promote Madison County as an ideal location for business and industry.
WHEREAS, the City of Canton has filed a lawsuit in Madison County Circuit Court to annex Nissan and revoke the thirty-year agreement.
WHEREAS, this action will destroy state and local economic development, including thousands of jobs and countless dollars in economic activity throughout Mississippi.
WHEREAS, reneging on a negotiated agreement would mean the elimination of future economic development opportunities and would take away an economic development tool that allows Mississippi to compete not only with states in the south but also compete effectively nationwide for jobs.
WHEREAS, the continuation of this lawsuit not only hamstrings the county and state economic development officials, but also tarnishes and effectively erases the last ten years of investment made by Madison County as a highly attractive economic development destination.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF MADISON COUNTY, MISSISSIPI, AS FOLLOWS:
1.The Board of Supervisors of Madison County does hereby oppose this action by the City of Canton.
2.The Board of Supervisors of Madison County does hereby call on the City of Canton to reverse its decision and drop the lawsuit against Nissan immediately."

Trollfest '09
Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.
Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).
Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.
Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".
In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.
In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.
Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.
Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!
This is definitely a Beaver production.

Jackson Jambalaya is the home of Trollfest '07. Catch this great event which promises to leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Had D.I. not brought it up, I'm sure the others would have stayed silent on this horrible action by Blackmon and the city of Canton. A contract is a contract! God Forbid they should go against the Canton machine - most especially, Banks and Griffin. Thanks D.I. for standing on this.
D.I. needs to stay in office. Otherwise there will be no one watching out for fraud, waste and corruption.
Thank you D.I.; please continue standing up to these idiots.
I agree with 9:31 wholeheartedly. D.I. is the only one of that bunch that I really trust. He says he's open and honest and he is. I just bet it won't be long before Blackmon and her gang will be calling this action racist.
D. I. Smith is a great individual and is proving to be a fine supervisor. He's not afraid to take on Tim Johnson and the establishment courthouse gang. Hope he gets re-elected.
Notice how quiet the rest of the Republican party is. Issue practically made for Dave Dennis. Phil Bryant normally takes advantage of something like this as well. Rest of them on down: silence. Oh, they gripe about it in private but nothing in public.
Where are all of these people, and DI Smith, when some city wants to annex the property of the common people, or the small businessman? I bet there won't be resolutions opposing that.
I am constantly amazed that people will rally behind the large corporations, giving up their own rights in favor of the giant.
"Please, sir, may I have some more?"
Barb is dead wrong this will ruin the business climate for MS.. thank you DI... a little off topic but why has there not been any clamor about the whole tyrone lewis/eddie fair fracas!?!?
11:58 - you're missing the point. This is about the City of Canton trying to undo an act of the legislature and doing irreparable harm to the state's reputation in the world of economic development in the process. The bottom line is that they can't manage their budget with all the payoffs and favors being handed out, and they just want to dip into Nissan's pocket.
"This is about the City of Canton trying to undo an act of the legislature"
Really? Because I thought it was about the City of Canton transferring the public's funds to Barbara Blackmon's law firm.
For 1:32: You nailed it.
DI Smith was a Army Ranger and a decorated Vietnam helicopter pilot. His last duty assignment before he retired was as an Army Inspector General. He's a good man and very honest. It's too bad more people like him don't consider public service.
Of course it's about the Blackmons' looting the treasury of the city of Canton, such as it exists.
But it's also about 2 people trying to undo an act of the Legislature that they both worked to pass.
The sheer gall of it still astounds me. Until I remember that the city of Canton is 90% uh, Democrat. They don't care that the Blackmons hold them in contempt; all they know is that it's "their turn" to run the City.
Because the average IQ for those uh, Democrats won't even sniff room temperature. They are at a level of stupidity that's hard to fathom. I think they're the dumbest people on the planet.
Mayor Truly and Barbara Blackmon have let getting a Walmart in Canton go to their head...now lets conquer the world and annex Canton. What is next?
Oh, and Michael Guest got a max sentence on a voter fraud case from the fraudulent municipal election in Canton 2 years ago.
Too bad nobody gives a damn.
But they will. Soon.
Okay, I move that we keep D. I., get rid of the three trouble makers and elect someone with intelligence in Johnson's spot - Then and only then can we restore order in Madison County.
D.I. is definitely a keeper!!!!
Canton wants the business? Give it to them. Shut down the plant and lay everyone off. Surely if canton can break contracts then Nissan may as well.
Hey Kingfish,
Why don't you run a poll that asks:
"As a whole, which is the biggest group of idiots ? "
A. The Canton Board of Aldermen
B. The Jackson City Council
C. The Hinds County Board of Supervisors
See Courtney Jackson's piece about the lawsuit on FOX 40 Agreement Sought on Nissan Annexation
