Kingfish will be on KIM Waaaaaade today with the author of The Blueprint

Listen to KIM Waaaaaaaade on WJNT today. Adam Schrager, co-author of The Blueprint: How the Democrats Won Colorado, will be on the show today to discuss his book. Co-author Rob Witwer wrote in National Review:

"Consider the following. In October 2004, the GOP dominated politics at every level in Colorado. Republicans held both U.S. Senate seats, five of seven congressional seats, the governor’s mansion, the secretary of state’s and treasurer’s offices, and both houses of the state legislature. Four years later, the opposite is true: Replace the word “Republicans” with “Democrats” in the previous sentence, and you have one of the most stunning reversals of fortune in American political history..." Article

Mr. Witwer writes in The Weekly Standard the Democrats are exporting the Colorado model to other states to replicate the same success at the ballot box:

"Led by Colorado strategists Ted Trimpa and Al Yates, progressives have made a major push to expand their “independent sector” strategy to other states. On the eve of the current election cycle, elements of the Colorado Model have been developed in California, Florida, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

An example is ProgressNow, a network of state-based nonprofits that uses online organizing and media outreach tools to generate, push, and amplify negative information about Republican candidates. Originally formed in Colorado in 2003, ProgressNow boasts an $8 million budget, a grassroots network of more than 2.4 million people, and chapters in 12 states...." Article

You Republicans who think "We got Haley, no problem", need to listen in today.

One thing that the Blueprint author will no doubt leave out is that we Coloradans weren't crazy about our Republican governor and the job he did.

This helped a ton in getting a Democrat governor (Ritter) elected. As for the other races, Coloradans are pretty pragmatic people. The 2005 and later races featured some vicious, vicious attack ads by Republicans that just didn't have the sticking power that they might have in other places.

Also, we have Tancredo, and he does a good job of siphoning off the wingnuts from voting for Republicans, and giving an advantage to Democrats to gain moderate voters.

Keep thinking that is all there was to it. Still needed money, organization, and boots on the ground.

didn't say that, you obstinate ass. i just mentioned it because i wasn't aware that you were all over colorado politics, or that you were present here when many of the races described were being held.

i stand corrected.

oh, and i've read the book.

Kingfish said...

That is you jackass. get it right. Obstinate Ass if NMC. I'm the jackass.

I'm looking more and more into it because I'm interested in how their model worked and how they are exporting it.

What they did was not rocket science as one of them put it but it was a plan that came together and worked very well and can work elsewhere. Having strong candidates and blunders by the enemy helps as well.

Remember, Colorado was also a bit unique in that they had a long history of pragmatic conservatives like John Love who were for their time pretty libertarian socially and fiscally conservative. The Colo GOP was dominated by the religious right in the early 2000's, and they shed people who became "independents." In 2008, I think the indy's were actually more numerous that either of the two parties.

The colo gop seems to be nominating wingnuts. bike paths are UN socialism and no abortions for rape and incest victims. That might fly down here, though. LOL

Something gotta be did about this....

Kingfish said...

well, you DO have to actually govern and not just try to pass your pet social legislation. That means taking care of crime, roads, schools, budgets, things like that. How did a majority white Baton Rouge elect Kip Holden? Kip ran as a moderate while hte white Republican pushed through a Wal Mart on College Drive and used abortion and gun rights in his reelection campaign. You got it, abortion in a mayors race. Stupid. He got beat.

Funny, but after listening to the show, I basically came away with, well it looks like the Dems built a better mousetrap. In the early 2000's you can see a shifting of the Repubs to the moral majority and a solidifying of that base: reason, they vote passionately. The funding issue was pretty equal across the board. Both were held to certain rules and all played by the same rules. It appears to me the Dems figured out that it would take 8-12 years to solidify a even more fractionalized base as we moved into the future. I also believe that the religious right was losing faith in the Republican party b/c the party could not pass legislation that deeply apealled to the RR. Again, the Dems capitalized on this and targeted large groups of left to left-leaning to moderate policies to appeal to a broader base and be representative of their supporters. In this way, the money definitely flowed, but I do wonder how it flowed in BOTH directions. I don't think it is as much an issue of money, yes, the money was there for larger messages. I agree that the feet on the ground was most likely the most impactful. Passionate politics knows the roots of the grass.

I got a call from RNC yesterday.
Started out " please listen to our minority leader talking about creating jobs". I did and Mr Helmet Hair said nothing about jobs but lambasted Pelosi.( Please tell me why so many Republican males feel the need to look like they've used a whole can of hair spray and wear overly starched prissy looking clothes? They look afraid to get mussed and most women do NOT find that attractive )
When the fund raiser came back on line, I pointed out that I didn't hear a word about "creating jobs".
She then told me that the US has the highest taxes in the western world and lowering taxes would create jobs and Pelosi was for taxes".
I said, " well, it's patently untrue that we have the highest taxes so you shouldn't tell a lie but rather talk about lowering taxes as a stimulus but the word 'taxes' wasn't uttered either".
She said it was true we have the highest taxes and I told her to look it up just like anyone could do on the Internet these days and that I thought the Republicans were becoming the Party of Stupid and in danger of looking like the Jerry Springer Party and I didn't think that would work well. Besides, it's kinda insulting for the RNC to assume we are that gullible and ill informed.
I suggested you don't win elections by " preaching to the choir" and appealing to the extremes... as the Democrats should have learned when Nixon won and Reagan won and the Bushes won.
I told her that while MY self interests were with the RNC that I hadn't missed our Nation is actually in trouble and that I find these huge, needless lies like the birther stuff just embarrassing as Republican is now in danger of being associated with stupid/gullible/emotional rather than smart/conservative/ rational which it USE to be.
I suggested that maybe, just maybe, enough of us were looking for statesmen who were smart and had solutions and were willing to take action rather than Chicken Littles wringing their hands. Problem identification, we've got in excess. Time to SOLVE some problems.
We've given money before, but I'm not interested in wasting money. I thought that's why I've been a Republican but now I'm thinking INDEPENDENT like polls show more and more are using.

Come on folks...you got the die hards in both parties representing that 25% that would vote for my dumbest dog, but really??? really??? Do YOU like to think of yourself as THAT no smarter than to vote for any idiot because of their party affliation? You'd vote for Stuart Irby because he's a Republican? Huh? HUH? Linda Peach...Republican...HUH? HUH?

Probably the second best show I ever did with Kim. Guy was really good and knew his stuff. Thank goodness I read his book because I would've sounded even dumber if I had not done so.

Interesting show. Thanks for the heads up. I found the author's use of "progressive" interesting. Like any lable, that can mean different things to different listeners and in different contexts. But coupled with the discussion of how the gop has gotten to be less "big tent," and what I know of Colo and looking at the websites, I think progressive in Colo means less in terms of Liberal but more in terms of coalitions of groups that are willing to tolerate the aims of other groups. For example the Sierra Club and the propontent of same sex unions. While the goals of each are dissimilar, they aren't hostile either.

I see a little bit of the same thing from Glenn Beck's most peculiar weekend rally, where the only unifying theme I saw from attendees (besides largely being white) was a sort of ill defined unhappiness with Obama. In Colo I sensed a sort of simlar theme of being fed up with the religious right's rigid agenda.

I'm not sure there's really a Miss application, though. As you discussed the more local the race, the less the lable of dem/gop applies. Plus, there's the racially gerrymandering that is imposed on Southern states. It's very difficult for a democrat to win a statewide race, and imo impossible on a national level. We have two bluedog congressmen at least one of whom may be Pelosied. In short, here the gop is pretty homogenous in terms of there not being dissention between the wings of the party.

At the Ed Blackmon School of Entitlement you learn that it only truly matters if, and when, you get caught.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson awarded eight scholarships last year to her grandsons and a top aide's children – bringing to 23 the number of awards she handed out since 2005 in violation of Congressional Black Caucus Foundation eligibility rules.

The Dallas Morning News reported Sunday that over the last five years, the Dallas Democrat has awarded up to $20,000 in 15 scholarships to two grandsons, two great-nephews, and aide Rod Givens' children between 2005 and 2008. The 2009 awards – reflected in a previously undisclosed list provided Monday by the foundation – push that above $25,000.

"While I am not ashamed of helping, I did not intentionally mean to violate any rules in the process," Johnson said in a written statement issued Monday night, after two days of national scrutiny and sniping from critics, including her campaign opponent.

Since you seem to have missed the news there's a democrat who won "on a national level" not too long ago. Name of Obama. Half-black too, or so I've heard.

About 6 years ago, the Saturday before Haley was first elected governor, I was puzzled while having lunch at Fazoli's by two guys eating and wearing T-shirts that had something like "Team 72" on the back of the shirts. They told me they were canvassing neighborhoods, finding out who intended to vote for Haley, and making sure they had transportation available on Tuesday. They would find a ride for them if they didn't. Later that day and the next I saw lots of pairs of people with these shirts around Jackson and the 'burbs. I did not see them before his second election. That boots-on-the-ground mentality has worked for generations for Dems, and I'm surprised if the Repubs dropped it. I remember in Baltimore the unions picked up groups of demented nursing home residents and drove them to the polling place and "helped" them vote. The Dems controlled the city, of course ;-) Does anyone know if the municipal employees are guaranteed a day off on Election Day (to "do their civic duty", of course) or is that only the unionized municipal employees up north who get that holiday?

No one said they did.

Whether it's Johnson or Rangel on ethics, you only get reinforcement of the belief that politicians are crooked and out for themselves. Might would work if all Republican politicians were pure as the driven snow. But, that's not been the case.
Having Republicans say stupid, easily provable lies like the " terrorist babies " nonsense and some of the things said about the mosques that are so outrageous one gets burned down when both these groups are and have been factually anti-terrorist and anti-jihadist and cooperating with our government( please learn what Ahmadiyya and Sunni sects believe people , they aren't Wahhabis or Shia),or Beck trying to turn a long existing Catholic and evangelical theology into something sinister is not the moral high ground. (Missionary work is the notion that if people aren't starving and living in ignorance and can be given spiritual hope, they can free themselves from oppressive regimes and raise themselves up...hardly radical) is "liberation theology". But, hey, it sounds like liberal so the dumb won't relate it to something every Protestant and Catholic church has supported.
You create the choice between corrupt and insanely stupid.
The Republican party has no trouble in Mississippi until the day it becomes so outrageously extreme ( and you have some Tea Party folks who are working on throwing out the old guard who are too rational for them) that 20% of the white folks cross over and vote Democratic. No immediate threat.
But, let's pretend the Big Lies continue to work.
Where do you think a political strategy of fear and hating government and taxes and suspicion of educated people ends up? What good comes of turning Americans against Americans ? And, what will you DO with the Americans who won't accept your religious and political view?
This isn't healthy political dialogue we're having. Healthy political dialogue isn't based on selling the Big Lie. We aren't finding common ground to solve REAL problems.
Our enemies don't have to do a single thing but sit back and watch us continue to destroy ourselves from within.

Anonymous said...

I'm sure our enemies are howling at your long winded masquerade of 'healthy political dialogue'.

1:10 yesterday, I was not aware that Obama carried Mississippi. I appreciate your straightening that out for me. Hope you had a nice day.

Anonymous said...

3:25 You didn't specify Mississippi. Your words were that Democrats couldn't win on a national level. Your muddled thinking confused be because Democrats hold three of the four Congressional seats, as opposed to statewide seats, and Hood is a Dem who won a statewide election in MS, so when you said "national level" I thought you meant "national". The Dems probably won't do as well on a "national level" this year as they did two years ago.

Anonymous said...

11:51 thanks...attacking the messenger when you can't dispute the message was something I omitted as stupid.

Anonymous said...

You have to possess a message before you can be considered a messenger. Your not-so-subtle backhanded condemnations about Republicans are little more than rambling bullshit. Keep sanding your rope.

Anonymous said...

Here's the message. The strategy of LIES ( and those I listed are without question, LIES just like the " birther " crap), may be a good short term strategy and energize the base, but it will not win the middle and in the long run will damage Republican credibility.

Worse, it is damaging our Nation as it is divisive and prevents us from working together to solve problems in a time of crisis.

I challenge you to do your homework. Look up Ahmadiyya from any objective pre-NYC source on the Internet. And those of you who don't know that EVERY AMERICAN MOTHER'S child is an AMERICAN no matter WHERE they are born or who the daddy is are beyond gullible.

Anonymous said...

That's NYC mosque. Those people are Ahmadiyya. It's not ON Ground Zero, it's two blocks away.
Both mosques, including the one that was burned have not only released funding but have involved the feds in helping them examine those who offer funding.
The TN mosque is SUNNI.

WE NEED those Muslims who are against jihad and terrorist tactics in OUR camp helping us!

Please explain why alienating those who have already helped us stop terrorist attacks by identifying extremists in their community is good for our country?

Anonymous said...

The myth that moderate Muslims reject jihad is just that ... a myth.

Anonymous said...

5:03 your evidence is? Your fears? Your feelings? What is your SOURCE for that nonsense?

A couple of centuries of behavior don't work for you?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
