There was a shootout at 5114 Old Canton Road around 8 this evening. One gentleman suffered the indignity of being shot in the back. It can be reported his name is not Marshand. The shooting resulted from a domestic disturbance. The home is a rental.  Unfortunately, that was not the end nor the only event on a horrific day.

 The EPA found a pattern of neglect, malfunctioning equipment, and good ole-fashioned incompetence when it inspected Jackson's water treatment plants a year ago.  The agency issued an Emergency Administrative Order against the city a year ago.  However, the EPA issued an inspection report as well.  The report provides more information than the order.  Upon reading it, it is hard to escape the conclusion that Jackson's water treatment plants were a disaster waiting to happen.  Unfortunately, the disaster did indeed happen in February when the water system failed during the ice storm, leaving some residents without water service for nearly a month. 

 Dacoda Ray pleaded guilty to molesting her two sons yesterday in Madison County Circuit Court. Circuit Judge Steve Ratcliff will sentence her Monday. 

Veteran story-teller Walt Grayson featured our old friend, Mr. Sam the Shoe Shine Man, on WJTV last night.  Mr. Sam plies his trade nowadays in the lobby of Great Scott, complete with an old-fashioned shoe shine chair.  Mr. Grayson told his story as only he can in the video posted below.

 The fight to replace Jackson Ward 4 City Councilman De'Keither Stamps heated up yesterday as some major players endorsed Jacquie Amos for Tuesday's runoff election.  Her opponent is Lumumba-endorsed candidate Brian Grizzell. 

 2 million deaths! 2 million deaths! 2 million deaths!  The supposedly smart guys at the Imperial College in Great Britain shrieked over 2 million million Americans would die from the Wuhan virus if the entire country didn't lock down.  However, The American Institute for Economic Research reported Imperial College wildly overestimated Covid-19 deaths as it scared the planet into one massive shutdown. 

 Well, well, well, look what is on the agenda for Tuesday's meeting of the Jackson City Council. 

 Ok, gang, let's be honest.  Jackson's water controversy can be hard to understand at times since it involves fairly technical issue. Several of you have tried to understand the EPA Order only to get confused by the nomenclature.  Just a little gentleman's disagreement at a local dining establishment.

 Some Canton road rage ended in a homicide on I-55S in front of Renaissance.  The incident began in Canton a little over an hour ago.  One man shot into the other car, killing another man.  Ridgeland police said the deceased managed  (and thankfully) managed to stop his vehicle just before Hyatt Place before he passed.

 Vice News joined the pile-up on Jackson's winter water crisis and just like the rest of the national media, it had one simple answer: racism.  Vice's Alexis Johnson visited the city with her agenda and left with what she wanted: a story blaming you know who for Jackson's water problems.

Jackson Municipal Court Judge Jeff Reynolds found David L. Archie not guilty of simple assault domestic violence today.  Archie was charged with the crime after he removed the doors in his home and put his wife's clothes on the street in January. 

 Jackson Ward 1 City Councilman Ashby Foote and Ken Wilson held a community forum on crime last night.  Sheriff Lee Vance and JPD Chief James Davis spoke and answered questions from the audience.  JJ estimates 80 people attended the forum, excluding media and police.  The video is posted below.

 Jackson Ward 1 Councilman Ashby Foote is hosting a community forum on crime tonight.  He invited several law enforcement officials and nightclub owners to attend.  More information is posted below.

As I head into my 60th year, I am amazed as I look back on life and reflect on the different stages along my journey. I have always been blessed with a good memory, so my early childhood years, teen years, high school years, and twenties hold a lot of fond recollections, despite some major bumps in the road along the way. My marriage and early restaurant days are all very clear and hold a warm place in my heart. But I almost feel as if my life didn’t truly begin until my wife and I had children.
