Catch & Release: Accused Killer Out on Bond for..... Shooting (Updated)

Update: Jackson Municipal Court Judge Jeff Reynolds denied bond for Crawford this morning.

Meet Siyaski Crawford, a star pupil of the Hinds County Catch & Release Program.  JPD charged 17 year-old Crawford with murder in the Cooper Road killing of Leonard Banks Saturday.   Not only was Crawford out on bond for a shooting, but Ridgeland police shot him in 2024 when he tried to run over an officer at Renaissance.

JPD arrested Crawford on April 4, 2024 and charged him with murder in the death of Rankin County 14 year-old Cameron Horne Cook.  The police affidavit alleges the defendant:

did willfully, unlawfully, feloniously, at Ridgecrest Drive, without authority of law and malicious aforethought with deliberate design to effect death, kill and murder Cameron Horhne' Cook, a human being, by shooting him multiple times with a firearm...
A Jackson Municipal Court judge set his bond at $1.5 million. Born on January 15, 2009,  Crawford was 15 years old when accused of murder.  A preliminary hearing was held in Hinds County Court on April 23.  County Court Judge Johnny McDaniels reduced the charge to accessory after the fact for murder and set Crawford's bond at $75,000.  Earlier post

A Hinds County grand jury indicted him on July 12, 2024 for tampering with evidence in the case.  The indictment charges:

On or about March 25, 2024, in the First Judicial District of Hinds County, did willfully, knowingly, feloniously, and intentionally, in the area of Ridgecrest Drive in Jackson, MS, while believing that an official proceeding is pending or may be  situated, without legal right or authority, destroy, mutilate, conceal, remove or alter physical evidence with intent to impair its use, verity or availability in the pending criminal investigation or prospective official proceeding, to wit: did remove and/ or alter physical evidence by removing the deceased body of Cameron Horn-Cook, who was shot and killed in a vehicle from said vehicle, and disposing of it in the roadway near the end of driveway of a house on Ridgecrest Drive

The District Attorney withdrew the indictment due to Crawford's age.  The case was assigned to Circuit Judge Adrienne Wooten.  However, the grand jury never indicted Crawford for murder.   Unfortunately, Crawford continued down the wayward path.

The JPS Campus Police arrested Crawford in August 2025 and charged him with business burglary (school). The investigator's affidavit states:

makes this affidavit Siyaski Jaqualon Crawford, the DEFENDANT on or about August 4, 2025, did willfully, unlawfully and feloniously enter Kirksey Middle School through a window located in the cafeteria with the intent to steal. This incident occurred at 5677 Highland Dr., Jackson, MS 39206 (Kirkey Middle School): in Hinds County, the city of Jackson against the peace, dignity, and laws of the State of Mississippi.

Crawford was born on January 15, 2009.   No further action was taken on the case.

The Hinds County grand jury indicted Crawford in November for shooting into a vehicle.  The indictment charges:

On or about August 19, 2025 did willfully, unlawfully, and feloniously, shoot or discharge any firearm into any vehicle; to-wit, Siyaski Jaquan Crawford, did shoot and discharge a 9mm caliber silver and black Sarsilmaz B6 handgun, serial number T1102-21E58087 into the 2018 white Lexus ES350 of Sebrena Crawford ...

The case is pending before Circuit Judge Adrienne Wooten.

Unfortunately, fortune continues to smile on Crawford.  JJ reported on December 31, 2024 that Ridgeland arrested Crawford after they were forced to shoot him at Renaissance. The Mississippi Department of Public Safety issued the following press release:

Officers with the Ridgeland Police Department were conducting surveillance on a vehicle. An officer attempted to approach the vehicle, when the driver of the vehicle drove towards an officer. The officer discharged his weapon, striking the subject. The subject then led officers on a brief pursuit on Interstate-220 before the vehicle came to a stop. The subject received non-life-threating injuries. The officer also involved received non-life-threatening injuries. This information is preliminary and subject to change.

MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.

There is no indictment against Crawford for this crime.  The case was probably referred to the Madison County Youth Court due to his age.  A prosecutor explained the legislature changed the law a few years ago that a firearm had to be involved for a juvenile to be certified as an adult when the charge is aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.   Earlier post.

On the Ridgeland matter we are a year and 3 months out and nothing?

What is wrong with these people.

Y’all have blood on your hands and I’ll pray for you for your part in this continuing crime spree. The Lord will judge this thug and you judges.

These judges need to be held accountable. Unfortunately, the people in their districts will keep voting for them.

We need more jail space and employees to man the jails. We don't want to increase taxes so...

He has to actually be convicted of something, right?

I recently saw on X a post where a Florida resident has created a tracker of judges who let these thugs out over and over again. We need him to expand to Jackson, MS asap. https://x.com/profstonge/status/2043740443272212500?s=20

I wish there was a way to charge judges with culpable homocide when shit like this happens. Of course, if convicted, all they would get would be suspended sentence.

Holy shit this is absolutely maddening. How is this little piece of shit still breathing. If any of our wimpy state leaders had a CLUE they would do something about this. Michael Watson, if you’re reading this, you better fix this shit when you get into the Lt. Gov’s seat.

This is the culture Jackson wants us to celebrate and pretend the people that participate in it are equals to producers.

there is a third option...

After he kills someone the youth court file should be opened to the public.

So the count looks like two homicides, one tampering with evidence by dumping a body, one shooting into an occupied vehicle, one attempt to run over a cop, and one burglary of a school.

I don't understand why people under 18 aren't also charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.

Death is an option. He's absolutely useless to society.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
