JPD issued the following statement.
On Saturday, April 11, 2026, Precinct 1 officers responded to 1009 Branch Street in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located the deceased body of 71-year-old Johnny Bingham inside his residence.
The report indicates that Bingham was shot as he attempted to deescalate an argument
that had taken place outside the residence between 40-year-old Bryant Grays and
another individual at the residence. Grays produced a firearm and shot Bingham,
then fled the scene.
Officers canvassed the area and located Grays hiding underneath a residence on Palm
Street. He was arrested and charged with Murder and Felon in Possession of a
Firearm.

A felon with a gun. Who knew? Maybe Dr. Chief will implement a "gun buy-back" so these felons will turn in their (stolen) guns for a few bucks. Yea, that's the ticket.
Jackson needs more social workers.
He shouldn't worry as he will be released on low bail (bond) at arraignment. Right?
Maybe Jackson can set a new homicide record!
Yep, gun "buy back" programs are all the rage for the woke, progressive, disarm the honest citizens crowd. I am surprised that Chowke didn't do one. Maybe he was too busy flying around in FBI jets and partying on FBI yachts.
Killers aren't getting low bonds as they used to in Jackson. That seemed to stop after this website reported on Judge June Hardwick giving out two $50,000 bonds for murder.
Apparently there was a shoot out at Capitol Grill last night. I assume no one died.
OK, thanks. That's good to hear.
Great idea. JPD could hire some to respond to felony assault, shots fired, and similar calls, while the armed officers are shopping at Kroger and driving the Dr. Chief around.
