Even Keith Richards. Variety Magazine reported:
The Rolling Stones have called off plans for a 2026 stadium tour of the United Kingdom and Europe, a source close to the band confirms to Variety, following reports that guitarist Keith Richards was unable to “commit” to it. While never officially announced, the group’s touring pianist Chuck Leavell and a spokesperson recently told press in the U.K. that the band has nearly completed a new album — their second with 35-year-old producer Andrew Watt — and planned on touring the U.K. and Europe. However, Richards, who turns 82 on Thursday, is said to be unable to commit to the rigors of another tour. Live dates in recent years have shown that he has faced challenges due to a long battle with arthritis, which he has called “benign” and said has forced him to change his style of playing. Glad I got to see them in 2024. For dudes in their 80s, they could still shred.
hard pass
I saw them six times between 1989 and 2019, the last show being as good as the first. Can’t bring myself to go again with Charlie being gone.
Agree. I saw them in Nashville in 2015 and they slayed it, though I suspect the front of house mix engineer brought in a backing tracking for Richards a few times. But yes, without Charlie, it's not the Rolling Stones.
In '89 the "never touring again" FOMO was real. They way outlasted and outperformed expectations. Raising the spike for Keef tonight.
Here we go with the trippers trying to out duel each other with Stones concert memories. Just as good in 2019 as 1989? Yeah, right. ROFLMAO
The 2019 Stones didn’t have the stamina of the 1989 Stones, and their voices didn’t have the same range, but 30 years of perfecting their stage presence made up for it. Perhaps 2:14 can regale us with tales of his attendance at Milli Vanilli, Justin Bieber, and Flock of Seagulls concerts.
