A security guard earned a busted lip after he tangled with David L. Archie at a St. Andrew's Episcopal High School girls basketball game last week.
A video of a confrontation between Archie and Lewis Watt at the game went viral last week (It is posted below). However, videos don't always tell the whole story so JJ obtained a copy of the police report for the incident.
Ridgeland police responded to a call at the St. Andrew's girls basketball game the evening of December 2. The police report narrates what took place:
On Tuesday, December 2, 2024, at approximately 1842 hours, I, Officer XXXX XXXXX, responded to St. Andrew's Episcopal School in reference to a subject who had assaulted a security guard and was refusing to leave the property. RPD dispatch advised me that the suspect was a tall black male, wearing all black standing near the Performance Arts Building.
When I arrived on scene, I observed a male subject who matched the suspect description and I immediately detained the subject pending investigation of the incident. The subject was later identified ifed as Dave Lee Archie. I then spoke with the head of security, Lewis Watt who showed me a laceration on the inside of his bottom lip. Watt stated that he then asked Archie multiple times to leave an ongoing basketball game due to being disruptvie. Watt stated that Archie refused to leave. Watt stated that he then grabbed Archie in an attempt to remove him from the game. When Watt did this, he stated that Archie struck him in the bottom lip with his hand. He did not state if it was an open or closed fist.
I then spoke with Archie, who stated that Watt did ask him to leave. However, Archie stated that he was not given ample time to leave and Watt grabbed him by the collar almost immediately. Archie stated that he was in fear for his safety due to Watt's aggression, and that he defended himself by striking watt. Archie stated he then walked out of the gymnasium to where we located him, and he waited for police assistance.
An unidentified female witness showed RPD Officer's a video of the incident that appeared to support Archie's statement. However, she became uncooperative and left the scene. At the same time, the Athletic Director, Perry Goldsbury who was supervising the game and its staff approached us. After discussing the incident with Goldbury, Archie, and Watt, it was determined that charges were not going to be signed on anyone at this time.
Watt was assessed at the scene by Pafford and he refused treatment and transport. Archie was released and all parties were released from the scene. Archie immediately left the property.
Watt owns LAW Security Group, LLC. The company handles security at St. Andrew's events.

Archie is a liar. No compliance at all. Disrespect and disobedience. Then he stood up aggressively. Only THEN did Watt get physical. Completely contradicting Archie's statements. I'm glad no on was charged here as that would be unnecessary but it does show a lot about the character of Archie to willingly give a patently false self-serving statement to police.

Watch the video. It looks from the video that Archie wanted to run his mouth (as usual) instead of complying when asked to leave. He should be in handcuffs.
Does he have relatives that go to school at SA? Was he there to watch them play or at SA to instigate this very thing?

Observe and report. Security guards are not cops. Police report indicates that the video supported Archie’s version of events.
Archie's reputation as some sort of street fighting tough guy is a myth. Just ask Kenny Wayne.

It looks like Watt has his center of mass close to his feet for good stability, but a guy who is somewhat height challenged ought to be aware of the disadvantage he faces when fighting a bigger guy uphill.
Some of us need at least 30 minutes to process a demand! It just the culture, I never stay where I’m not welcomed!
It’s really sad Mr Archie may not be aware he’s loud and obnoxious because he surrounds himself with people that need his energy.

Would some one who was there please post what Archie did to be disruptive. Who was St Andrews playing? It appears adult rational behavior is a thing of the past. Archie's disruptive conduct in the past makes him suspect in my mind.

Lewis Watt is the same security guard who threw that weak punch last year at the 2024 Mistletoe Gala.

The police found that dealing with Archie over a possible misdemeanor is not worth the stink he will bring. He lives for the hassle. If he agrees to quietly move on, just move on.

Contracted security does in fact have the authority of law when managing the peace, removing or detaining violators of security.
Archie wears race on his sleeve, in fact on BOTH sleeves and is just waiting for some white person to exert authority over him. Don't be surprised if another tape emerges with Archie exclaiming, "You must not know who I am!"
Suuuure 1:41. Archie was simply getting up to leave. I'm not an "expert" but i know standing and bowing up. I've actually been in such situations. Security was asking him to leave, he didn't want to, it blew up, he swung. But deny the video all you want, big guy.

The black security would not have summoned his white supervisor unless there was activity on the part of Mr. Archie that required a supervisor. Everybody knows this is not uncommon behavior for Archie. He is usually disruptive in a black environment but, this time, he was elated that he could raise hell in a white environment. FAFO

Archie seems to incline toward uppitiness. Apologies to the black community for using a word, “uppity,” that makes them tear their clothing and throw ashes in the air. But it is a thing; just deal with it. Try to do better.
Having said that, “became disruptive” sounds like another of those horseshit charges cops level in order to, in essence, force us to do something the cop wants done, even if it’s not needed for the cop’s ego; i.e., “l’m in control here” syndrome. “Became disruptive” is the same as failure to comply with a lawful order and/or disorderly conduct. Utter subjective horseshit.
As much as I detest Archie and his traveling clown show, without a description or even a definition of “disruptive,” my counsel would be that Officer Fife needs to butt out and leave the public alone.
