Burns was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. MBI was later requested to take over the investigation on November 9, 2023.
Since the time MBI took over the investigation, the agency has worked diligently with multiple local and federal law enforcement agencies and witnesses to lead to the arrest of the following individuals:- 23-year-old, Elisha Brown, Accessory after the Fact, Hindering Prosecution
- 23-year-old, Jamison Kelly, Jr., Accessory after the Fact
- 24-year-old, Marquis Scales, Murder
- 21-year-old, Ziqua Amos, Murder
The U.S. Marshals Service assisted MBI in locating and arresting the individuals connected to this case.
“This case is a testament to the persistence and professionalism of our state’s law enforcement community," said Department of Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindell. "The tireless work of our MBI agents and our partner agencies reflects their unwavering commitment to seeking justice for victims and their families. I am incredibly proud of the teamwork that led to these arrests.”
"This investigation took years of hard work and collaboration among multiple agencies," said MBI Lt. Colonel James Herzog. "MBI extends its sincere gratitude to all law enforcement partners for their dedication and commitment to ensuring justice was served."
MBI has been coordinating its investigation with the Hinds County District Attorney’s Office and will continue to work with D.A. Owens to secure convictions of these individuals. Due to the pending investigation and prosecution, the Mississippi Department of Public Safety will offer no further comment. |

Finally they caught somebody on another charge who agreed to "snitch" in order to make a deal. That's how it's done. It took a little while but sooner or later it gets done.
Two of these were arrested and released in 2023
Anybody know how much time people are sentenced for "Hindering Prosecution" I tried to look it up but couldn't get a concrete number. I just want everyone here locked up as long as possible.
No, just one. Kelly was arrested twice.
Sooo it took two years to crack four college kids?? And this girl accused her brother of the murder who was arrested. What is wrong with these young people with no self control.
This is the case where because of piss poor investigative work an innocent person was arrested. He was subsequently released after excellent investigative reporting proved him innocent.
The case was cracked when a reluctant potential witness was told that he would receive some A's if he cooperated.
