Slugging It Out for Governor

A new poll shows State Auditor Shad White, Ag Commish Andy Gipson, and Lieutenant Governor Delbert Hosemann all tied up in the Republican race for Governor in 2027.

The Tarrance Group polled 600 registered voters through text messaging and online polling.

69% of those sampled were white and 27% were black.  55% were women and 45% were men.

Check out who placed where.

Andy Gipson: 15%

Shad White: 14%

Delbert Hosemann: 13%

Lynn Fitch: 7%

Tommy Duff: 2%

UNDECIDED: 40%

If the results include those who are "leaning" towards a candidate,  the poll shakes out this way:

Andy Gipson: 17%

Shad White: 15%

Delbert Hosemann: 15%

Lynn Fitch: 9%

Tommy Duff: 2%

The poll is posted below.  However, it appears we got ourselves a horserace.

Lynn Fitch for Governor

Give me Tommy Duff. The only one that acknowledges we are behind our neighboring states and have to grow. Something has to change.

Lane Kiffin 100%
unless and until he’s no longer a resident of this state

Maybe on Tommy Duff. Don't know enough yet. Lol @ Andy Gipson. That dude is the last thing we need. He'll spend way too much time talking about unnecessary social issues to enrage and divide. Lynn Fitch is an empty skull. At least Delbert seems to really care about the State, though his age is a bit of a concern. I wish he would've run last time. They're all likely to be quite the upgrade from that halfwit Tater Tot.

Tommy gets the 40% undecided.

If the big hat gets elected, SNL and the late night talk show hosts should put the entire state of Mississippi on their Christmas card mailing list.

Hosemann's pollster.

Kingfish knew this was a meaningless and useless poll when he put it here.

He mentions the demo of those polled, but not those responding. LOL. We all know that nobody with walking around sense answers these bullshit text messages. And that leaves those WITHOUT walking around sense.

By the way...other than Delbert, are any democrats running?

I didn’t think we could be any more of a joke of a state after electing taturd the second time. Andy or Lynn would prove me wrong.

Anonymous said...

Who is the 80 year old man. Wait, are you talking about the billionaire who has created his wealth in the private sector where results matter, and if you don't achieve them, you're fired?

Anonymous said...

I really like Andy Gipson as the AG Commish. Did a good job. I was disappointed when he said he was running for Gov. Not because he would be a bad governor, but I hated to see him leave the AG position.

I think I would rather look at Tater's pink cheeks another four years than look at Lynn's big ole fake smile for that long. And just imagine her appointments!

'The Hat' is a speech maker, not a producer. Delbert has already spent his usefulness. Mr. Duff has made a career of doing things right, like Fordice.

NO to Lynn Fitch or Dumbert, two worthless spineless OLD losers. It would be more of the same decline under them. Let me reiterate they are OLD and decrepit grandparents that need to just enjoy retirement. They are beyond out of touch and do absolutely nothing to engage with anyone under 65. They are the Sean Hannity watching crowd's picks but those of us living in reality realize MS is shrinking while the rest of the south (not LA) is booming. Michael Watson or Shad White or if we have to go with an old guy let's take Tommy Duff, the very well-established businessman that won't repeat the same boring (and corny) talking points. Stop the crime in this state and you solve 95% of the issues. Lock em up! Duff recognizes that MS college graduates don't want to move back to Greenwood or Columbus or Brookhaven after graduation and he'll get us some more JOBS to fix it.

Jackson is the literal center of the south, halfway between Dallas-Atlanta and Memphis-New Orleans. One of these candidates needs to realize this and talk about bringing a bunch of logistics companies into this area to set up shop. I'm talking big trucking and maybe some big air cargo like UPS or Amazon. Spend the money to make our metro's largest airport into something big and watch them fly in. Also, somebody needs to realize that Vicksburg is located on I-20 + the largest river in the USA and is upland of where the river is going to change course and bypass New Orleans. Spend some of that billion $ surplus we have to build the south's largest port in Vburg!!

And one more point in this rant. The Delta is a dead place, but it's along said large river and not highly populated. Why doesn't one of these "leaders" in this state recognize we should build several Nuclear Power plants up and down our banks, selling electricity to the rest of the country and powering these data centers? What a way to bring some money into MS!

I’m more libertarian but even I can see Delbert is a democrat

3:07 you seem like a bitter person. I bet you curse the sun when it comes up in the morning.

Anonymous said...

We will see a poll any day now commissioned by the benefactors of Mississippi Today that attempts to convince us that the Democrat sacrificial lamb of this election cycle (Espy, Hood, Dupre, Chokwe) has a real chance to win the General Election.

Anonymous said...

Where is the choice for "none of the above"?

Anonymous said...

Your "one more point" is your best! That would be bold thinking.

Anonymous said...

I could see both Auditor Shad and Commishioner Gipson as great Governors. Andy reminds me of Gospel Bill and I like that. Shad also reminds my of my millennial nephew who convinced me to buy 100 bitcoin with him in 2014 and now I’m quite wealthy.

Anonymous said...

Mississippi is doomed.

Anonymous said...

Y'all seriously think this sample reflects the Republican primary?

This is a stupid poll because it completely ignores the de facto general election will occur in August.

Anonymous said...

No, like their water carrying for Waller, the Barksdalers will first effort to convince conservatives that Duff walks on water. Though, considering Duff's meager support in this poll, they'll be hard pressed to make the levitation appear believable.

Anonymous said...

... and now I’m quite wealthy.

But considerably less so than you were on October 5th.

Anonymous said...

Agreed...poll is meaningless. 24-33% of respondents were black and/or democrat, knowing they won't be voting Republican. You know how MAGA folk tend to hold their cards close to the vest anyway.

Anonymous said...

@7:26 you obviously didn't read the poll results closely enough and/or you have a reading comprehension problem.

Anonymous said...

This poll kicks the crap out of the anti-school choice crowd.

Anonymous said...

Does it matter? They are all the same other than maybe Duff. I can’t think of anything a Governor has done that changed my life. I will say that this state was lucky Haley Barbour was governor during the Katrina recovery, he had the Washington contacts that made a difference in so far as getting federal assistance.

Anonymous said...

100% of the undecideds break for Duff? Highly unlikely.

Anonymous said...

Like Delbert, but concerned about his age. Like Shad. Like Duff. It’s shocking and concerning that a private sector success like Duff would be so far behind empty hat imbecile career politicians like Fitch and Gipson.

No 4;11 - The successful businessman that you accurately described is only 68 years old; plenty of life left. And yes, while the Hat brags about leading this race, where 40% are "undecided" - most have not even heard of, much less know anything about that successful businessman who has created his own wealth by knowing how to run something. That fact cannot be said about any of the others on this list: The Hat has claims to be a farmer, with his two cows and five blueberry bushes, a successful lawyer who's success has been telling others what they could do but didn't do it on his own; the Lady in Red who was a successful understudy as counsel to a legislative committee and then received a number of plush appointments from those connections; an educated 'elf' who ran a successful campaign for a candidate who beat an unknown truckdriver leading to his appointment; and of course the Tax Lawyer who wanted so bad to be a US Senator that he declared the position vacant due to death while the incumbent was still alive and kicking (wonder how those political signs are holding up in storage??).

Yes, the successful businessman that nobody knows of yet because he hasn't been out campaigning for this or any other office the past year, much less the past decade. Once he announces his intention and puts his knowledge and experience in front of the people, that 2% will quickly surpass the entire bunch.

Anonymous said...

Unless Democrats cross over as they did for Thad Cochran this poll is extremely flawed. Of the Republicans who were polled I am not surprised Delbert is that weak of a candidate.

Anonymous said...

Shock- Way is the 40%

Anonymous said...

No. Mississippi is not doomer as Kansas is not doomed. We are the center of the south. Now, if the MS river reroutes away from New Orleans, that could cause big trouble.

Anonymous said...

Unlike the others, Duff is not an announced candidate yet, he has not been campaigning so most folks (even those politically involved) know much about him. Frankly, its too damned early to be an announced candidate, but for those who's only job is to draw a state paycheck - i.e. Delbert, Fitch, Gipson or Shad, who have been spending the past several months doing nothing but promoting their desire for the 'next' stop on their gravy train, Duff has been continuing to run his extensive business enterprise.

ONCE he gets in, starts campaigning, and letting people know who he is, that number will increase as fast as Bitcoin has been dropping lately. Its over a year before the campaign year begins; there is another election cycle next year that doesn't include these political gurus who have jumped into this race thinking they had to get ahead of the other guy/girl that occupies the state office space next door to theirs.

Duff's star will shine soon enough - right now, its just fun to watch these other wannabees spin their wheels thinking the ride on the merry-go-round has been so much fun but are afraid they might be spun off and then have to actually go out and find something worthwhile to do with the rest of their life. (Well, actually for Dilbert, that's not the problem; at his age, that's not his worry.)

Anonymous said...

So who commissioned this poll? Empower MS, MCPP, ?

Anonymous said...

Looks like I'm going to have to hold my nose and vote again this time, as I've had to do for most of my adult life.

Shocked Lynn was at 9%, I would have guessed more like 2%

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
