The site of Jackson's oldest gas station gets a new lease on life thanks to Pulito's owner Charles "Chaz" Lindsay, III and the Jackson City Council last week.
944 Poplar Boulevard is affectionately known as "Shady Nook." Built in 1928, the Hines Motor Company opened the gas station in 1936.
It managed to receive its own historical marker.
Mr. Lindsay applied for a special exception. His statement of intent states:
The special exception must be renewed annually. The application included two letters of support. There were no letters of opposition. Mr. Lindsay owns Pulito's Restaurant and Roans.
The request sailed through the Zoning Committee. "I appreciate what y'all are doing," said Ward 3 Councilman Kenneth Stokes. "This makes sense because this has not been residential ever," added Ward 7 Councilman Kevin Parkinson.
The Committee approved Mr. Lindsay's request unanimously.

This to get approved. High end drinks and good food.
Awesome
Isn't he Virgil Lindsey son that sat on the city council?
Good move and glad that it will have some life breathed into it. Looking forward to see what it will become.
So great to see the Belhaven comeback. Manship St has really become a food hub and happening place. Also glad to see almost all of the streets in Belhaven are repaved.
"Thoughtfully hosted". ROFLMAO As if Parkinson knows the difference.
Yeah this service station was the first step toward the destruction of the electric trolleys in Jackson. Imagine the better world we could be living in if we had focused on clean energy instead of Rockefeller’s Rothschild backed Standard Oil monopoly.
