Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones issued the following statement.
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Sergeant James Dotson, Jr., a valued, talented, and deeply dedicated member of the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office assigned to the Raymond Detention Center.
Sgt. Dotson served our agency and community with unwavering commitment, professionalism, and compassion. His presence was a source of strength and stability, and his contributions to our mission of justice and public safety will not be forgotten. He exemplified the very best of corrections—steadfast in duty, generous in spirit, and respected by all who had the privilege to work alongside him.
On behalf of the entire Hinds County Sheriff’s Office, I extend our heartfelt condolences and prayers to Sgt. Dotson’s family, friends, and the many lives he touched throughout his career. May they find comfort in the legacy he leaves behind and the love that surrounds them during this difficult time.
May God bless and keep Sgt. James Dotson, Jr. in eternal peace.
JPD issued the following statement last night:
On Sunday, November 2, 2025, the Jackson Police Department began investigating a Homicide that occurred in the 1700 block of Dorgan St. Detectives learned that the victim had been shot at this location. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim has been identifed as B/M, James Dotson, Jr., 32 years old. His next of kin has been notified. This is an ongoing investigation, if anyone has any additional information relating to this case, please call Crime Stoppers at 601-355- (TIPS) 8477 or contact the Jackson Police Department at 601-960-1234.

Slightly hyperbolic, but he ain't wrong. If this guy was killed because he was a cop, the point is not far off. This could turn into some serious doodoo.
