The Ballad of Rudy: Rudy Wants Out

Rudy Warnock wants to get out of jail.

Warnock has been residing in the Forrest County jail since the day he was convicted of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit bribery on July 16.  Warnock faces up to 20 years in prison. U.S. District Judge Kristi Johnson revoked his bond after he attempted to commit suicide later that day.

The freshly-convicted Warnock was driving on I-20 (mile marker 71) when he crashed his Ford F-150 truck. Someone called 911 at 3:30 today.  Witnesses stopped to check on him.  When they did so, Warnock slashed his neck and wrists.  After he was transported to UMC, U.S. Marshals took custody of the defendant.  Judge Johnson ordered a mental evaluation for Warnock.  He passed the evaluation.

Warnock filed a motion to reinstate bond yesterday.   The motion states:

Attorneys John Collette and Jeffrey Graves represent Warnock.  Judge Johnson will sentence Warnock on December 10.

Synopsis of Case

A federal grand jury indicted former Canton Municipal Utilities engineer Rudy Warnock for conspiracy to commit bribery, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and wire fraud and Cleveland Anderson for two counts of conspiracy to commit bribery  in December 2021. The indictments were unsealed nearly a year later on November 22, 2022.

The grand jury also indicted former Canton Alderman Andrew Grant and Canton Alderman Eric Gilkey for Conspiracy to commit bribery (2 counts), conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud in December 2021. The two defendants pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bribery.

The indictment alleges the defendants bilked CMU from the beginning of 2016 to the end of 2017.  Commissioner Anderson moved to hire Warnock as CMU's civil engineer on August 16, 2016.

The indictment charges Warnock made regular payments to Anderson, Gilkey, and Grant in exchange for contracts and "favorable treatment" at CMU.

Some of the Warnock gifts included tickets to luxury suites at New Orleans Saints games and concerts in the Crescent City.

The indictment charges Warnock deposited a check "in the amount of $9,200, made payable to J.M. through the automated clearinghouse system of the Federal Reserve Bank System.  Part of the proceeds of this transaction were given to defendants Grant and Gilkey in the form of $4,000 cash each.

The maximum penalty for the conspiracy to commit bribery is five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.  The maximum penalties for the wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud charges are 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Being in jail must really be boring to Rudy, so now he is asking for a "re-do". Sorry, Rudy. Sit tight and be quiet.

Going down like Toad Mardes!

Rudy wasn't the best engineer but he was a hell of a salesman. Hope that works out for him in the pokey.

Rudy has been an embarrassment to competent conscientious engineers for a long time. No sympathy here.

I bet he does want out. He's lived a very plush lifestyle funded by fraud and deceit. Ain't no Gucci in prison homie.

I bet he's still in shock he couldn't talk his way out of it.

Apparently the judge and US Attorney (AUSA) don't know who Rudy is.

His pals at the CMU and the County Board can't fix this one for him. So sad.

Ah, let him out. Maybe he'll do it right this time, if he doesn't bolt. I see another Fugitive type movie filmed in Canton/Madison County.

I mean the guy screwed up, We have gotten to a point where we chastise everyone for everything. I don't blame him, I would be asking them to let me out too. All they can say is no!!! For the record I don't know this dude and I remember watching his commercials thinking he was an absolute shyster. But the man has a wife and kids, can you imagine the agony he must be in?

Do y’all think he will get a bond?

I doubt it.

12:16 for Judge!

Where is his buddy, Mike Espy when he needs help?

If one will use suicide to avoid trial, I’d have to imagine that every other method is considered a possibility in the eyes of the court.

1. Most people who are "in" want "out." 2. He isn't crazy. Attempting suicide was one of the more rational things he has done. I don't blame him for wanting out. I don't blame him for not wanting to go. And yet, there he is.

No sympathy for him on my part, but have never understood how people take joy in other folks misery, the misery of their family, and kicking people when they are down.

Espy skates while Rudy bakes-

12:16 Rudy, Rudy, Rudy. You knew the rules of engagement while attending college. Keep your head in the books, study hard about 40 hours a week, while other students party. Don’t cheat and treat it like a job and you will succeed. These are the guidelines 22 year old MS State Engineerings graduates at MDOT told me as new hires while I Was doing their 13 pages new hire application to process with benefits. All of these exceptional young men & women were great to work with. Their time sheets, leave request, vehicle reservation request and pay increases were always a happy time for me to process. They made the Bridge Division a great place to work. You had & still have the same opportunity in life; just at another location. Show your family that there is a consequence when you break the law. You can still help others in prison

The misery of his own doing.

Is it true Rudy Warnock got paid 7 figures via votes from supervisors Karl Banks, Paul Griffin and (then supervisor) Tim Johnson for an “airport study?” Or is this fake news?

If so, somebody should go to jail for this BS as we dodge the potholes in our s____y roads due to past grifts like this.

I don't begrudge others lack of sympathy.
Criminals cause real damage. Who am I to preach that victims cant smile when the person who stole from them and flaunted his lavish lifestyle faces consequences...finally. That's just silly.

@1:33,

12:16 here

I am NOT Rudy lol I am just an average guy who thinks the man made a mistake. And for the upcoming race baiters, I would feel the same way if he was black, purple, red or green......

I never saw a Rudy commercial. How could I have missed that? Why would he need to advertise when Banks, Griffin, Howland, Crosby, Espy and Steen were making him a triple millionaire?

Anonymous said...

Meanwhile, his former stalwart counsel is kicking it in New Orleans with an old school grifter that never got caught.

1:32, no one on here is enjoying the misery Rudy caused other people such as his family, but yes, there’s a certain amount of satisfaction when karma steps in, consequences are realized, and bad people are punished. Rudy laughed at people like most of us who operate within legal and ethical boundaries, so call me petty but I do take a little joy in seeing the legal system finally snare his ass.

Rudy is not feeling remorse about what he did. He is freaking out over the consequences of getting caught. All Madison County taxpayers should be happy. Maybe some of the supervisors will get prosecuted too.

12:16 I agree with you & know you are not Rudy. I had the privilege of meeting him while at MDOT & PE’s didn’t like him or his work. 1:33 here

They take "joy" in it because it's so very rare in today's world - this thing called "justice" is a unicorn, and the reason America is falling apart.

Rudy never ran commercials. There was no need to as long as Three to Five Board Members and a County Attorney kept him in riches. Was there payback? I've heard that question being bandied about down to the barber shop.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
