Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba is holding his weekly briefing right now. The press conference is streamed below.
* City pools will Friday at 2 PM. The pools at Vine Street, Grove Park, Terry Road, Soul City Church in Midtown (partnership) will be open. The city desperately needs lifeguards. If the city does not have enough lifeguards by Thursday, openings will rotate. Pay is $17/hr. Jobs are posted on city website.
* The city is planting new shrubs at City Hall. Two magnolia trees were removed but replacement trees will be replanted.
* Police Chief Wade said Precinct Captains can speak to the media at crime scenes. Precinct Captains will be identifiable by a yellow stripe. They went through media training last week.
* Chief Wade said the "Kia boys" have arrived in Jackson. 9 Kias and 15 Hyundais were stolen in Jackson last month.
* Public Works Director Robert (No E) Lee addressed the sewage problems at White Oak Creek in Northeast Jackson. A contractor is working on setting up a bypass pump to stop the flow of sewage into the water. The pump should be working by tomorrow. The contractor will also address making a permanent repair to the broken pipe.

wow! Just when I thought we were doomed by this mayor's administration, we now have new shrubs being planted at City Hall!! Free the land!
"The city desperately needs lifeguards."
This is not in reference to the city pools.
A tree grows in jackson ....
@1:16
48 hrs before they are stolen.
The barn door was closed after the horse escaped at White Oak Creek
Kia boys...any notion to the Ford F series boys? I'd wager more F150 & F250 trucks are stolen in Jackson than anywhere else in the nation.
PoPo don't mention that Kia/Hyundai have a software fix for the security flaw. And, they've sent out notices to all owners. But, that might require reading. Or being sober during business hours.
Meanwhile, the 12 year olds are eager to go viral with such daring feats as waving a gun, stealing a car with a screwdriver, or running down pedestrians. School's out!
But, since elementary schools are out, too, maybe some underemployed pit bulls can sleep out in the ELantra, eh?
Thanks, Tik Tok.
They need to put the flag up while they are at it!
They need to put the flag up while they are at it!
“Bring me a shrubbery.”
FYI, if your Hyundai/Kia has push-button start, it's not subject to this design flaw.
There are not many "swim challenged" lifeguards out there looking for a job.
Interim chief is playing ball for chuck like a puppet. He must be wanting that permanent position bad. Magnolia trees are racist duh, always have been with their old white blooms. Probably were the planted by a bigot. Get em outta here! Free the land
I don’t know how much more lumumba I can stomach, but this one is bound to be a doozy. After all, he missed a whole week with Memorial Day being last Monday and we all know how much work gets done any given week.
Wonder who’s in charge of the chlorine and what not for the city pools? Chemicals have to be ordered, paid for, measured, and delivered into the water or else the chirrens gonna be swimming in boo boo contaminated water.
Chokwe no doubt has a plan.
Always a good idea to wait until pools open for the summer before fully staffing your lifeguard team. If I was a betting man, I’d place a large wager on “rotating” pool hours. It’ll be a cluster fuck. This administration cannot get anything right.
@4:33 Hennefin
Teach Junior and Senior Lifesaving, then teens can save each other. I did the two summer courses at 15 and 16. I used the skills at 18 in St. Tropez and at 21 on the Blue River, during spring runoffl, Summit County CO, to save two young women.
I had been wondering when season for rockfish would be kicking off.
The last Jackson bypass pump I saw operating was pumping sewage out of a manhole and pumping straight into a ditch in NE Jxn. It was reported to MDEQ, they investigated, and it continued to pump for about a year.
Amazing work, Kingfish. They have known since May 25 about the sewage leak and have not done a thing about it, even after DEQ told them to fix it. Did not take action until you put it out there on the blog, and suddenly they hired a contractor to fix it overnight. Utterly amazing.
@4:33 -this from the city that could not order chlorine for the Fewel water treatment plant until literally the last hour because they were trying to put off having to pay for the August order until after the first of October, the beginning of a new year, due to not having any money in that particular budget. Of course, moving money from another budget to such a non-essential matter as providing the chemicals to the only water treatment facility that was working at the time was something that couldn't be considered.
Now that the Mayouuur don't have to worry about keeping the water, and hopefully the sewer, plants operative or fixing the major water eruptions and sewer overflows, maybe he can find the time and money to put a little chlorine in the pools; assuming they have lifeguards. Much more important than providing water to the paying --- and non-paying --- customers.
Damn KF, you didnt give us fair notice - that we wouldn't have to be putting up with Mr. Right, Right this Monday. If I had known that he wasn't going to be jabbering, would have clicked on and listened to this earlier, wasting only 17 minutes rather than the usual 45.
Interesting though how Major blameothers has effectively trained his peons to point out on every problem that Jackson has, other cities are having similar problems: Asst Cheif notes it about the car thefts; Parks notes that others can't hire lifeguards and that sewer ruptures into creeks aren't routine as well from Robert Lee.
Hell, Im surprised that other cities aren't having to cut down their state trees at their city halls to justify this move toward becoming a freed nation-state.
Did someone say pool?

In 10-20 years it will all be water under the bridge when the country goes full Marxist.
Serious question - why'd they remove the magnolia trees?
City had an arborist examine the trees. The arborist recommended replacing them.
All by design.
I’m glad you boomers enjoyed all your Hollywood, sportsball, and chain restaurants.
They kept you distracted so easily.
