D.A. Tries to Reverse Green's Curse

The Hinds County District Attorney will try to revoke the bond of accused killer Ryan Hopkins.  Hopkins kidnapped, beat, and raped a woman in New Hampshire after Hinds County Circuit Judge Tomie Green allowed him to remain free on bond on a first-degree murder indictment.  Her blessings all too often turned into curses, sometimes deadly curses, and this case is no exception.

A Hinds County grand jury indicted Hopkins in 2020 for allegedly killing a 21 year-old woman in 2019. He allegedly slashed the throat of Celeste McDonald a day after she filed rape charges in Jackson.  A police affidavit states:

Hinds County Circuit Judge Faye Peterson held a bond hearing on April 3, 2020.  Judge Peterson set his bond and 50,000 and placed him under house arrest since he had not been indicted since his April 4, 2019 arrest.  Hopkins served time for a 2009 felony sexual assault conviction in Iowa and a 2013 aggravated assault conviction in Arkansas.

The Hinds County grand jury finally indicted Hopkins in June 2020 for first degree murder and conspiracy. However, the indictment was not served upon him until April 2021 since the monitoring company went out of business, thus allowing Hopkins to roam free for nine months after his indictment.  Unfortunately for all, Judge Green kept Hopkins' bond at $50,000 and allowed him to remain under house arrest on May 28, 2021.  You read that correctly.  Judge Green allowed a man convicted of rape and aggravated assault in other states to remain free on "house arrest" after he was indicted for murder.

Hopkins retained attorney Dennis Sweet, IV.  Sweet was able to obtain court permission for Hopkins to get a CDL.  Having obtained the CDL, he was able to leave the state driving trucks.  It was part of his job, you understand.

Hopkins allegedly kidnapped a woman in Arkansas and took her to New Hampshire where he repeatedly beat and raped her in August 2022 (See p.9 in police affidavit in documents posted below.).

A New Hampshire grand jury indicted him for two counts of kidnapping, three counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault/domestic violence,  three counts of aggravated sexual felonious sexual assault, criminal restraint, criminal threatening-domestic violence, and felon in possession of a deadly weapon on December 1, 2022.

This website reported on March 24 the Hinds County District Attorney's office had not moved to revoke his bond.  However, the motion was filed on March 27.  The motion states:

  1. In the instant matter, the Defendant was released bond on April 8, 2020. Subsequently, while out of jail on that bond, the Defendant was arrested and indicated on various violent felonies in the State of New Hampshire. Exhibit D& E.
  2. Further, both the charges in the instant indictment and the charges in New Hampshire are felony crimes punishable by more than five (5) years of imprisonment.
  3. As such, the State requests that the prior bond granted in the instant matter be revoked, pursuant to Article 3, Section 29(2) of the Mississippi Constitution of 1890, and objects to the setting of any other bond for the Defendant at this time.

Hinds County Circuit Judge Deborah Gibbs replaced Judge Green on the bench.  No hearing has yet been scheduled.

Kingfish note: Judge Green's treatment of this alleged killer is very similar to her actions in the Funches case.  JJ reported on February 9, 2021:

PD arrested Augena Funches yesterday. for the murder of Kiana Singleton on I-220 last month. She is ineligible for bond because she was out on bond for a previous murder charge.

Funches and Singleton got into an argument in the parking lot of either the M Bar  or Zaxby's on January 24 (Different sources provided different locations.).  Singleton left but Funches allegedly pursued her on I-220 and shot into her car, allegedly killing her.

This is not the first time Funches stands accused of murder.  A Hinds County grand jury indicted her for first-degree murder in the shooting death of Kiona Morgan on January 23, 2019 in Clinton.  Hinds County Circuit Judge Tomie Green set her bond at $50,000, which she posted.

Want to know why there was a HB #1020? Just look at these two cases.  There are more.  Oh, and make no mistake, you will never see "criminal justice" reporters such as Jerry or Mina covering catch and release crap such as this case.

But Tomie "Let 'em Loose" Green stated that "they seem nice."

I sure would like to know which trucking company hired a person with easily obtained background. Having worked in management at a large trucking company, hiring both drivers and non drivers, I find it unconscionable (if not impossible) that ANY trucking company would hire this person.

The company's potential liability for knowingly hiring someone with this background is tremendous.

Well if it had happened next door he'd be getting some Maine justice.

It just a matter of time if you live in and around Jackson Mississippi a Former Judge Green blessing is coming to see you! Only, and I mean only, until it hits home these lax liberal Judges will open their eyes and see a habitual criminal for what they really are.

Johnny (habitual criminal) ain’t just going around raping, robbing and killing cause he didn’t have guidance and a good home. Johnny needs help and I mean a long, long, long time of incarceration in a penal facility.

YOU IN MAINE NOW BOY

How much blood is on Judge Green's hands? Between her, Judge Kidd, Harvey Johnson, and Little Chokwe, who has done the most to harm Jackson?

Using the right’s argument for more guns to combat gun violence, it seems the answer to this issue would be more low dollar bonds and more leniency in general for accused criminals. If it works for guns, it must work for everything.

@10:50
Your snark is ignorant af.

2A supporters believe that the solution to gun violence is more guns in the hands of LAW ABIDING CITIZENS.
Sorry you were neglected as a child and not provided with the nutrients required for proper brain development.

Maybe you should test your theory, 10:50.

Create a gun free city or state. No guns allowed.
Not for homeowners, cops or criminals. No guns at all.

If your theory is right, you can prove to us all that no guns = no/very little crime.
I don't own any guns personally so I would be open to the concept.

Just prove it can work in America, even on a small scale first.

Genuinely curious as to what role the judicial branch plays in 10:50s gun-restricted Utopia?

Anonymous said...

Not a Lawyer, but can Judge Green be the object of any civil action, such as some sort of Class Action Suit, for her behavior? I'm sure that she, like Asbestos and Paraquat, has injured/killed many.

The left doesn't want to reduce gun related violence. They want to disarm the citizenry so that they can be controlled. All the various local, state and federal level dictators during the scamdemic provided a glimpse.

11:10 AM, that sounds like a good idea. Lets start with Jackson. Since they are #1 in murder in the U.S. it should work there better than any city. If it don't work there we will know it will not work anywhere. If it won't work we will not have lost anything by trying.

I second the motion 12:12.

Jackson would be the ideal place for this radical experiment.

I'm not familiar with Hinds County Circuit Judge Deborah Gibbs. Is she soft on crime too?

@11:00 - so red flag laws are now supported by the right? That’s news to me, must’ve changed this morning.

@11:10 - we already have the data. Nearly every other country except for our has taken some measures to prevent mass murders. It works.

@11:59 - not everything is a conspiracy. Some people just don’t want their kids to get shot when they get dropped off at school every morning. I’m surprised that is so hard to fathom.

Anonymous said...

@11:11 - not sure what you are trying to ask. Lots of countries have some form of gun restrictions in place. Why would restricting gun purchases affect the judicial branch?

Anonymous said...

@11:45 - no

Anonymous said...

"Not everything is a conspiracy" carries significantly less weight, in these post-covid shenanigans years.

Even to those of us who used to laugh at the tin-foil hatters.

Anonymous said...

This article 2:12, is pointing out the ineptitude of judges. Tomie Green failed to protect us.

Yet, gun restriction is the default answer?

My point is, rather than adding more laws (which I am not wholly opposed to) why not FIRST hold judges accountable for doing their job. The judicial branch is failing here.

Maybe fix the current human deficiencies before we fully move on to blaming inanimate objects.

@2:25 - that statement only carries less weight in the fringes of the right wing. A lot of things have been changing on that side and I can’t think of any that are positive. Good luck fighting off the U.S. Army with your 9mm.

Kingfish Posted This: Well if it had happened next door he'd be getting some Maine justice.

I hope he knows what the fuck this means since nobody else on the planet knows.

And this is simply standard for his interjections when nobody can tell to whom or what he is commenting.

@2:32 - I’m simply applying the solution the right advocates for with gun violence to be applied to all issues. If more guns are the right’s solution to gun violence, it must apply to some other issue besides guns. For obesity, we should eat more ice cream. For out of control inflation, the solution is to print more money. It’s the logical choice of having your cake and eating it too.

@2:48 - I can help you. Follow these steps:
1. go to google.com
2. Type in “Maine Justice” and hit the enter button
3. Click on the first result

11:10, a city that does outlaw guns does exist... it is called Chicago. So tell me how that is working out there?

Anonymous said...

@8:34 - a simple google search shows lots of gun stores in Chicago. Are they just open for people to look at guns or do they sell them? I would think a store that doesn’t sell anything wouldn’t be able to stay open. Please explain this to me.

u can't make this stuff!!!

complete B.S. from top to bottom; sure Green let him out, but what about the DA??

Let's not leave out Judge Wooten! She picked up where Judge Green left off. Actually, she was giving blessings concurrently with Judge Green.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
