Councilwoman Sued Over Campaign Debt

A2Z Printing sued the Ward 2 Councilwoman on September 20, 2022 in Hinds County Court for $15,971 after she allegedly stiffed the Jackson company for services rendered during her 2020 campaign.

Invoices attached to the complaint show A2Z produced pushcarts, mailers, and yard signs.  A2Z attempted to collect the bill but did so in vain.  The company sent a demand letter to Ms. Lee on October 27, 2021 but she did not pay her bill.

Ms. Lee never bothered to respond to the complaint although service was returned on October 25.  The clerk entered a default against her on January 17, 2023.  A2Z filed a motion for default on February 1, 2023.  The case is assigned to Hinds County Court Judge Larita Cooper Stokes.  She has not yet ruled on the motion although she has been severely ill for several weeks.

Attorney Nash Gilmore of Phelps Dunbar represents A2Z Printing.

Clark, It’s the gift that keep on giving!
Wow. Just Wow.
The mayors puppet can’t pay her bill!

I won, why do I need to pay this bill?

Anonymous said...

she voted for Richards...wonder why?

Anonymous said...

I hope they get her a$$… she is an entitled little asshole

I thought Phelps-Dunbar was way above this sort of chicken-chit representation.

Dayum...Next they'll be chasing ambulances down State Street and holding drive-thrus accountable for coffee blisters.

The Mair went on TV and endorsed the woman (unbelievable from an ethics perspective, but what the hell, this is Hinds County). Maybe he can pay this off.

3:33, maybe she can't pay it until the garbage contract is completed.

Promises made, promises not kept - that's the line that went with the write off of water bills (without money, but who's counting). So if the water bills don't have to be paid, why should pushcards and sign printing have to be paid?

Printing businesses already are scraping by, but it seems strange to stiff a vendor who buys ink by the barrel.

Too incompetent to refuse to override the Mayor's veto of a non-action of the city council; too incompetent to demand that the Mayor's administration provide basic city services; and too incompetent to pay her own bills.

She doesn't want to do the hard work of making certain that basic city services are provided. These services include ensuring clean drinking water, a working sewage system, properly maintained streets, effective police department, and reliable garbage removal. The fact that she is a political ally of our incompetent mayor makes all the sense in the world.

Ironic how Angelique and Rukia both live in their parents' houses.

Listen
She is a total idiot. All her decisions are race and gender based. She is a racist

Anonymous said...

Maybe I should run for office and neglect who I owe! Now come on, this company provided a service they must be paid. No one will take you serious Ms Lee unless this is fake news!

Anonymous said...

She be entitled to those free services. What else is Chowke's girl receiving for "free?"

Anonymous said...

I can't believe Judge Cooper-Stokes hasn't recused herself in this case, because of her husband, Kenneth. But then against this is the new radical peoples republic of jackson where anything goes.

Someone in Detroit will pay her bill. Right?

@3:51 if by “chicken-shit” representation, you mean suing someone who owes you $1000s of dollars, then no, they are not “above” that. Maybe one day someone will refuse to pay you, or refuse to provide services even though you’ve paid them $1000s. Then I hope you can find a “chicken-shit” law firm to help you.

What’s next said...

If his honor doesn’t get all the bribe money from Richie’s, maybe she can reach in the cookie jar too to pay off her debt.

Remember, y’all voted for these fools!

She needs her ass kicked from A to Z

Anonymous said...

She and Grizzell are doofus as hell. He more so that her. Told lies on TV tonight. "Clearly the lowest bid" BULLSH*T".

Phelps needs to execute on her house in Ridgeland.

I hope they garnish her guvment check.

It’s called personal responsibility ! Ward 2 bonehead!

City govt needs an enema. I've lived in Jackson 40 years and never seen such incompetence. This isn't a race issue this is a whose getting paid under the table issue instead of following the law.

Lubumba and city council are y’all’s elected leaders. Y’all needs to respect their authority!

For the P-D employee @ 6:23 - Last I knew, P-D was an employment law firm. I guess things changed and you didn't tell me.

I still can't see the 'South's Preeminent Law-Firm' groveling in court for less than $20,000. The firm's take might be enough to pay for catered sandwiches all four Fridays in any given month.

Will it be assigned to a paralegal?

Anonymous said...

Phelps Dunbar has NEVER been just an employment law firm. So apparently you know zero about it.

Anonymous said...

Sure would like to understand the wisdom behind why Angelique decided to turn her non-payment of bonafide campaign debt into a political circus.

Anonymous said...

12:12. Duh. The rules don't apply to them.

Everyone knows when you win an election for anything that it is like giving you a license to steal. Some start the stealing sooner than others.

Anonymous said...

9:23 - not only the "last" you knew, it shows how little you knew/know.

P-D is and has been a multi-dimensional firm - in fact, employment law is probably one of its smaller practices.

And I would assume that A2Z is a client for which they perform multiple services; collecting on a debt would be routine legal work for a business such as A2Z, and I'm sure their attorneys at P-D were more than happy to file this paperwork.

Maybe you are just trying to defer the conversation from Councilwoman Lee's failure to pay her campaign debts until Mr. Richard (or his partners) can come in and help her.

Anonymous said...

@ 3:01 - I've never heard of councilwoman Lee, much less deferred the conversation.

As an employee of the firm, will you please shut up with your obtuse defense of the business?

Twenty-five years ago, when I used them twice, they were advertised as an Employment Law Practice.

And one of their most high partners was the only lawyer in the state who had a full-length portrait of himself in his foyer.

If you're a paralegal, has the case been assigned to you?

Anonymous said...

@718 - not only am I not an employee of the firm, I'm not an employee or otherwise of any law firm. However, I have dealt with many of the individuals who practice or have practices at PD.

I'm sure PD does employment/labor law - but to think that they are an employment law firm ignores their practice in many other areas that they are recognized in (white collar defense; investigative; finance - hard to go on without getting bored.)

While you may have never heard of Councilwoman Lee, you evidently have heard little of Phelps. And connsidering it was founded over 150 years ago and is a New Orleans based firm, wonder if that really was their 'most high partner' who's portrait you were so fascinated by.

But thanks for chiming in with your dribble, for whatever it was worth.

If you think that's bad, imagine printing all that for the losing candidate.

I learned from my printer/employer in the 70s/80s that you NEVER extend open terms (CREDIT) to ANY candidate in an election. If they loose, you most likely will not be paid... If they win, same results.. esp IF THEY'RE AN ATTORNEY!!!

Not sure I feel so sorry for these folks... ESP them knowing who they extended credit toward (in Jxn these days)... shoulda learned a long time ago.

Not very smart.

Anonymous said...

I guess Richards' hasn't come thru with payoff?? waiting on a vote!!!

Anonymous said...

This sort of behavior would have been humiliating in the past, even career damaging.
Not today.
The tolerance of worthless leaders in the City of Jackson is unsurpassed.
But Washington is gaining on them.

Anonymous said...

This is actually more common than most people know in regards to all elected officials.

Anonymous said...

Who's she gonna Con next?

Anonymous said...

This is why in advertising, all political campaigns are cash up front. I'm surprised a printer wouldn't also follow this policy.

Anonymous said...

When dealing with political candidates whether you're printing signs or selling them an ad in your kid's sports program, Rule No. 1 is always get the money up front. If you think it's hard to collect from a winning candidate, try getting paid by a loser.

@11:24 AM - That is true for any politician.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
