"A Great City for a Great State"

A great city for a great state.  Could it happen?  A video that reveals a vision of what Jackson could be is floating around.  Some will admire while others will snicker.  Crabs in a bucket you know.

A good portion of the plan relies on the completion of the One Lake project.  The promised tech-sector is just that right now, a promise. Some will scream gentrification and well, others will just scream to scream.  Check out the video posted below.  Enjoy.

No, not crabs in a bucket. Crawdads. Crawdads in touch with reality.

Let's just be honest. Gen III heirs to Jackson real estate types smoke some of their M/M and believe this propaganda.

Realists look at the news that the COJ has not only not finished work on Silas Brown, but they don't even know how they'll stop a cave in right at the bridge over the Pearl.

Yet, Billy Big Bux III is counting on yet MORE GubMint Welfare to support his pet project for personal profit at taxpayer expense requiring retrofit of THAT bridge and all others. Much less all the other GubMint Welfare for RINOs.

More "self made" (NOT) men proclaiming they are for SMALL GubMint and Zero Taxes as they lobby for more pipe dreams such as bike trails to the Rez and more Federal Flood Subsidy money for the Swamp Village they want. Sort of like Pump Welfare.

Sorry, it's not crabs in the bucket to point out the self serving hypocrisy and propaganda.

So much potential; so little leadership.

Mississippi better get the brain drain problem solved.

Are they including the kickbacks to gubment, and the thefts of materials when they try to build these? I also noticed there were no police stations nor crime shelters there. BTW, that supposed walkway over Lakeland Drive is WAY too low for 18 wheelers to pass under...

Anonymous said...

1:39pm if the supposed walkway over Lakeland Drive is WAY too low for 18 wheelers to pass under, then damn it, we will hire a consulting firm and get that problem fixed!

Gentrification, Money, and Batshit Crazy Liberals are the only way to see this be successful.

Anonymous said...

I’m glad they are including some pickle ball courts. I’ve been amazed that Harbour Walk has been able to continue succeeding without them. Hopefully the Farish Street District won’t file an injunction to stop this blatant attempt to stop its growth.

Go here https://ia902607.us.archive.org/16/items/great-cities-final/Great%20Cities_Final.mp4 and right-click on the video and save it to your computer if you are having trouble playing it.
Took about 20 minutes to download.

Literally the only thing that can improve the City of Jackson is wholesale gentrification. Until governance is restored to people of managerial competence coupled with good will toward all men regardless of race, color, creed, nothing else matters.

Anonymous said...

85/15 will NEVER happen. The weeds will be overwhelming from the start, with no end game vision, only "what's in it for me". This is laughable.

Jackson's future is set. It has been for a long time. I think we all know why. And plans, videos, townhall meetings, banners, slogans, conferences are not going to change a thing. A small group of people can develop a plan, but it takes everyone to execute it. The future for any community is determined by the quality and ability of the people in that community. Jackson's future is set.

The one lake project is a dead soldier

Anonymous said...

What do you want, and what do you have?
What Jackson wants: Greatness
What Jackson haves: Crime at all-time highs, horrible streets, ongoing water issues, declining business and residential populations, and feuds which impede even the simple matter of letting a garbage contract.

Anonymous said...

Reminded me of a Twilight Zone episode-

Anonymous said...

Is this after the Capitol PD double their force and run all of the ne'er-do-wells out of the area?

Anonymous said...

The city has spent “A Fortune” on legal expenses on stuff like garbage pick up litigation. Don’t worry about sewage, road repair, rampant crime, dated airport, hijackings, murders (if not number 1 in the country, pretty darn close), embezzlement etc. oh and where did that planetarium update money go? Is it still open? If so, what are the attendance figures. Never mind the attendance figures, I would not believe them anyway.

Anonymous said...

These types of developments can be found all over the country. That's why we like visiting those cities for work or pleasure. Great restaurants, clean streets, pedestrian friendly, public spaces, etc. But we all know why this won't happen here. But don't fool yourself into believing its only because Jackson leadership and residents can't make it happen. Mississippi is the worlds worst in preserving public spaces as well as supporting something that may actually be for the common good. We just want our gated neighborhood, back patio with an outdoor chimney, and a bud light.

Who’s going to pick up the trash?

Took forever for me to download and upload too and I've 1.2 speed or supposedly. It was only 600 mb but acted like a much larger file.

I agree that Jackson has so, so much potential. And I respect the developer of this video and his/her enthusiasm for Jackson having a better future.

But I also agree with 1:34 that Jackson simply does not have the leadership to make any of this come to fruition. Nor the money.

What is projected here is awesome and beautiful. But it could be done in any town or city from Jackson to Terry or Macon. More importantly, it will take billions and billions of dollars of investment and true leadership to make it happen, neither of which Jackson has at this time.

Until Jackson leaders and the community itself get crime under control; improve the infrastructure from the streets to the water, etc; improve the schools; and show a willingness to work together and welcome all people to the table versus calling anyone who disagrees a racist, this neither can nor will ever happen. No one will invest this type of money into Jackson in its present condition and with its present leadership. I'm not trying to be a Jackson hater or to dog Jackson out; it's simply true.

I hope it does happen, and I will support it. But many, many things will have to change for there to be any realistic shot of it happening versus just being a dream.

Will Socrates get the contract? Homies from Detroit?

Anonymous said...

I think I'll watch my old tape of 'The Wizard of Oz'. At least it wasn't fiction.

Anonymous said...

Nice, but how about starting with the basics like providing potable water, sewer and garbage service to the citizens first. Then step it up a notch and give them a safe, crime free city. And lastly, just pave the damn roads and get rid of the canyon sized potholes that plague every road in the city. You can’t expect all the nice stuff in that video unless you can show you can provide the necessities for a vibrant city. It’s a pipe dream until then.

To improve Jackson, improve schools per (parental) Choice and Voucher accounts for each student, applied to school of parents' choice.

Invest in the student, not the corrupt system.

Then wait years to get more qualified students graduated from 2 yr or 4 yr or 8 yr training/higher Ed.

Meanwhile, vote out the wastrel marxist mayor and establish city wide curfew with road block enforcement every night of the week.

Anonymous said...

Damn, looks like the same PR firm developed this video as the one I was shown in 2019 by Chockwe and his team (all of whom have now left - CAO, PW Dir, CFO, etc but who's counting) of the plans that would involve bicycle and bus transportation throughout downtown; the Convention Center picture looks similar except for Chockwe's plan wouldn't allow cars - only bicycles and public transportation. All coming from the 60,000 new housing units to be built (multi-family, no cars, walking neighborhoods only) between Woodrow WIlson and High Street, behind Millsaps.

Similar pipe dreams, lots of pretty pictures - but lacking one or two basic things. 1) Still have a crappy public school system and the power structure fighting every attempt to change it; 2) unbriddled crime; 3) high taxes and no services.

Also, strange but this video seemed to put all the emphasis on the area east of the railroad tracks; and north of South Street. I'm sure you can get plenty of support from the city 'leaders' for that plan.

No mention of the Zoo....

Anonymous said...

Oh boy! A Belhaven Beach along the shores of a Pearl River overflowing with raw sewage. Hold me back!

Anonymous said...

This is the city than cannot consistently provide water and trash pickup, while pouring millions of gallons of raw sewage into that beach area and cannot protect its citizens from crime. 🤦🏻‍♂️

No sane person would pump their own money into Jackson. Now, if someone can bamboozle investors and the government into this project, at least those on the front end will get their money.

Anonymous said...

What a pipe dream. Not crabs in a bucket, but anyone with a brain knows the die is cast and Jackson’s future is set, at least for the next two generations.

It’s time to cut losses and use valuable resources on capable populations. Jackson has been offered a lifeline time and time again, only to respond with racist, hateful anger against anyone willing to help.

I am glad my children have understood that there is no future in central Mississippi, if you really want a well-rounded life with a great career, recreational opportunities, and a quality of life that one deserves when you invest in yourself.

Jackson is done.

It’s BEEN done.

Chowke may use this video to grift some more investment money for his pockets.

Anonymous said...

Notice that it’s all based on Federal funding, 2 Lakes, Military Computer Center, Golf Course, Bridge across Lakeland, walking trail from Madison to 2 Lakes.

Anonymous said...

Hell, the gentrification of East Ridgeland ( County Line Rd to Lake Harbour ) is no longer a serious discussion among investors.

A few old stoners that hang out at that classic joint on Lake Harbour, will smoke too much of that ole dope and honestly think Harbour Walk is about to finally open.

It's funny to listen to them.

They still think "The Dock" exists .... and the Jackson Mets still play at Smith Wills.

Anonymous said...

They been talking about that lake project since I was a kid. Now I'm in my 40s. Jackson will never see the lakes project. It's like Farish Street being an entertainment district like Beale Street or the French Quarter. Jackson is like one big Cairo, Il which is a dump.

Anonymous said...

The $ for this propaganda could have been better spent on Crime, Water & Garbage. PS where are the flying bullets & carjacks in his video? Right.

We need a 10 million dollar study.

What a great vision for the future!

But in reality..

Every time Lumumba speaks, the value of my suburb city home goes up 10k....sort of like "its a wonderful life" and the bell ringing..

Anonymous said...

Good grief, it would take $750 Billion dollars to do all of that in Jackson, if not more. Who in their right mind would ever take the chance to invest that kind of money in a city with leadership that is morally, intellectually, spiritually, and literally bankrupt? I know the concept of "buy low, sell high", but if someone has the stones to do this project, they deserve all that's coming to them.

Anonymous said...

With the lack of financial sophistication by Jackson's majority, and their inability to see anything long run, this will never happen. Too many bogus companies will be created to "get mine" (see Raymond Detention Center) with absolutory no regard to the mission. Been seeing it for the last 25 to 30 years in earnest.

Anonymous said...

Was excited watching the video. Then reality set in. If Jackson cannot provide the basic services, then this is a pipe dream. Chuck with his new world order does not fit this glorious video plan. Very sad.

Anonymous said...

This looks like a cookie-cutter vision of a bunch of white folks. The last census numbers reveal that Jackson is a super-majority black city. This is not being racist, but it tees up diversity of creating Jackon's vision. So how many black folks were involved in creating this "vision"?

Thanks for posting this Kingfish. I haven't laughed so hard in a very long time. What a hoot.

I'm reminded of Rodney Dangerfield heckling the Ivory Tower professor in "Back to School."

Professor: "Where will our factory be located?"

Dangerfield: "Fantasyland."

This "pie in the sky" video is the most innocently ignorant production I have seen in a few years. Have Chip, Hu, Ray, Creekmore, Bradley, David, Boerner, Jeff, Wyatt et al not kept up with the Jackson crowd of Socrates, Jackson Advocate, Chokwe, Brad Franklin, Othor, Dickson, Credell, Ladd, Kenny Wayne, Bennie, Dennis, Tony, the other Tony, Adrienne, et al who will jump into the middle of this group's creation and gum it up with weeds from the get go. Arguments and threats will begin of "who gets what" from day one, capable or not. Financial sophistication is NOT an attribute of todays Jackson leadership. This is actually, but sadly, funny.

"Ya got trouble right here in River City"

What a con. If schools aren't first fixed with parental Choice and Voucher accounts, nothing gets human in Jackson, even the River is poisoned with 52M gallons of Lumumba.

Anonymous said...

Why were virtually all people depicted in the film white while the bold new city is approx. 80% black?

Anonymous said...

Bikes trails. Beaches. LOL!

Anonymous said...

You culled my comment. It would have explained a lot. I don't understand why. Those people are so naïve.

Anonymous said...

ALL THIS MIGHT WORK SOMEDAY, if it weren't for the people who now dominate Jackson. Incompetent leeches who insist on getting THEIR SHARE before they destroy the enterprise. Thirty years ago yes. Today NO.

How would this all be funded? Maybe this could have happened in Jackson circa 1988, but not now. Too late. What tech firm would office up here now - we have at best flimsy city services, crumbling infrastructure, a joke of a police department, raw sewage in the streets, water unsafe to drink, a lackluster public school system… and for reasons that are not their fault - a terribly ill equipped workforce… The video looks like River Hills good ole boys disguised as democrat do gooders who might have invested in medical cannabis but whose kids def would never ever go to Murrah because JA has a kicking show choir whiskey talk IFYKYK

Just hand Jackson over to the military and make a base out of it.

9:30. Keep up. 85%.

Jackson’s best chance at redemption was to make a pitch as the Amazon HQ2 and instead of simply financial incentives, offer to rename the city “Amazon City” and amend the city’s charter to give full governmental control to Amazon! Offer unlimited land and complete control of infrastructure to Amazon, and let it completely own and control a city!

As crazy as this sounds, it’s still more likely than funding a beach on the Pearl and asking people to pay millions for a townhouse on a pool of raw sewage. Amazon City for life!

What do we want?

Gentrification!

When do we want it?

Now!

Anonymous said...

Wow 11:32..not sure if I should be impressed or horrified. But this river hills liberal will move out of state but before my family moves to Madison.

Anonymous said...

Two Lakes plan is Pharr out!

Anonymous said...

Some commenters are close but most are flat wrong. It’s not Jackson’s challenges with capital, infrastructure, public safety, or even local leadership that threaten this vision. Those things can be easily overcome with simple alignment of interests around priorities shared by every human being. The only real threat to improvements like those in the video is the business of politics, which currently depends on open warfare between black and white.

Bless Your Heart said...

@11:13 PM Thank you for small favors. But not to worry, as we don't let liberals from Jackson move to Madison. That would be analogous to letting all of the wackos from California move to Austin.

"That's not how we did things in California (Jackson)."

Anonymous said...

8:51 AM is exactly right. This will never happen. Ever. Analysis is spot on.

Kingfish said...

Take out that fourth or fifth sentence and I'll approve it. Ruined a long and good comment.

Money and investments not only flow, but run, towards where they will be appreciated and not taxed to death. Jackson offers neither of these. This video or anything like it will never happen in the most radical city on the planet. Expect more misery to come in the future from its elected leadership, it’s all part of their plan.

Anonymous said...

Beautification of Jackson makes as much as putting lipstick on a pig! Jackson is a lost cause. Time to cut our losses and invest the money in a new capital building outside of Jackson.

Anonymous said...

I hope this project is a success despite the moronic naysayers on this blog. Just say what you really think - Jackson is too black to be a nice place to live.

Anonymous said...

5:21. What a stupid comment. OK. I will take the bait. Please tell us one thing the city is doing correctly. ONE.

5:59 here. I agree with the last 11 words. Look around.

The part of me that loves Jackson and wants it to be a thriving, vibrant city loves this idea. Maybe if we created a "Metro" district similar to Nashville could we pull this off. I would love it for my kids, and their kids, and everyone's kids because what a cool place to live right? Sadly, I think it would require too much cooperation between people who already don't trust each other and a majority of Metro area folks who have written Jackson off. My heart sinks to say that.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
