The Madison Police Department issued the following statement.
On Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at approximately 9:29 PM, officers of the Madison Police Department responded to a call of unknown trouble at the Longhorn Restaurant at 137 Grandview Boulevard in Madison. According to the call from an employee of the restaurant, a male subject who was in the restaurant indicated to the restaurant’s staff that he needed police assistance.
As uniformed police officers arrived at the restaurant, they encountered the male subject at his vehicle which was parked in the parking lot of the restaurant. As the officers approached the subject to question him regarding the call, the male subject produced a handgun and fired at the officers. Officers returned fire with their service weapons striking the male subject. Upon the officers securing the subject and his weapon, medical aid was provided.
Madison Fire Department paramedics as well as personnel from Pafford Ambulance Service were summoned and provided further medical aid to the male subject. The subject was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center by Pafford Ambulance Service where he was listed in stable condition.
An officer received minor cuts from broken glass during the incident. No other officers or persons were injured. The injured officer was treated and later released from Merit Health Medical Center in Canton, MS.
As is standard protocol for officer involved shootings, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation was contacted and arrived on the scene to conduct the investigation of the incident and shooting. Also as standard practice, the officers involved have been placed in an administrative assignment status until such time that the investigation and administrative review of the incident has been completed.
No further information regarding this incident will be released at this time as the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is the lead investigative entity in this matter.

...It's only the beginning....Apartments North of Town to blame.
"Responded to a call of unknown trouble at the Longhorn Restaurant"
So many cliche jokes could be made. A Longhorn in Madison? Gasp!
madison is gone! shootings in restaurants..what's next?
seriously..i ate at bravo yesterday. no gunfight. had i gone to madison-dodge bullets!
lucky perp or poor shots
I live near Madison and I support the police. I don't support the criminal. Anyone firing at an officer should get minimum 30 years in prison. Honest folks before criminals always. And Mayor Mary and the Madison police always put law abiding citizens above criminals.
Wow Madison has really gone down the tubes lately. Maybe we should just wait out the total destruction of Jackson and move back in.
I’m glad that the officers received only minor injuries. John Wick’s finishing touch should apply in any encounter like this.
It’s so sad to see the wave of crime in Madison. It used to be such a nice safe place
Here is a stat I would love to know (pay attention if you are reading this Mayor Mary Hawkins-Butler)
How many shootings, carjackings, car break-ins, purse snatching, and shoplifting crimes has Madison had? When caught, where did the criminal actually live?
I think we all know that the huge majority of the crimes committed in Madison are committed by criminals from other cities. It's not a dude in Crosscreek snatching a purse in the Sam's parking lot from a lady in Reunion. It's generally a thug from Jackson snatching a purse in the Sam's Parking lot from a lady in Reunion.
The criminals flock to Madison because they know they can get away with it and the judges there will be soft on crime.
It’s time that the State and National Guard take over.
9:46, and what are you going to do about it, set up checkpoints to scan for addresses? And then send them back to where they came from if they have an address in a majority black city?
You people are something else…
He was running from the dope boys in Jackson. Better to take a chance shooting at cops in a safer jurisdiction. In the Madison County Jail he would be safe!
In the Hinds County Jail he would be dead!
Sounds crazy, but these fools ain’t logical. He could have just left town for good but couldn’t read the highway signs to get out of Mississippi.
These fools can’t get out of their own way!
This fool ain’t crazy, just scared.
Sounds like the perp was hoping for suicide by cop but got a future aggravated assault or attempted murder charge.
Pretty sure he will be doing the jail house rock real soon.
Sounds like attempted suicide by cop.
Attempted suicide by cop
Save Madison
Thankful for Madison PD. Good job by all.
Yes these bad characters have closed several businesses in Jackson so now they have to move to other cities. Its just sad people cant do right.
Yes thank you Madison Police. I guarantee you these thugs are thinking "Wow Dorothy we are not in Kansas anymore"
It's a shame the suspect needed an EMT rather than coroner.
Restaurants and retail are ruining Madison. It will be the new County Line Rd in just a few years.
"It will be the new County Line Rd in just a few years."
What's wrong with County Line Rd? M-Bar is going through a big expansion, because business is so good.
Odds of the perp having a "rap sheet" ? Anyone, anyone....Bueller Bueller ?
Wow Madison has really gone down the tubes lately. Maybe we should just wait out the total destruction of Jackson and move back in.
You are late to the party, they've already started moving back. LOL!
Shooter bet it all on the baby blues last night, he had nothing left to live for.
Time to move further north Madison isn’t safe! I guess everyone needs to move to (checks notes) Vaiden!
First the shootout on Highland Colony.
Now a shooting at Grandview.
I notice something - shootings in Jackson happen in residences, nightclubs, and neighborhoods where most people will never go.
Shootings in Madison County happen in the commercial districts, where everybody goes.
Jackson is safer for most people.
That what a pity-panther ain't too bright, right. If most people never go there, how do, so many get shot???
I have lived in Madison the City for years. It definately is not safe here, in fact very dangerous. For your safety and that of your loved ones, please do not move here. I am saying this with all sincerity. Please stay in south Jackson where it is much safer.
Hey “some guy noticing something,” which do you think gets more visitors, someone’s house or a movie theater/shopping area?
You might not be so bright yourself.
Have any of you in here ever driven by the subject LONGHORN in recent months? We stopped eating there shortly after it opened.
Jackson residents are ruining several local restaurants. The food at half shell is great. But be prepared to have to see multiple Jackson residents underwear when you go. If they don’t start enforcing a dress code I dont think they’ll make it. Same goes for many other madison restaurants.
Shot by a Cop and he still alive, this fellow knows he special!
If it wasn’t for Jackson residents, most of these places couldn’t make payroll.
Have you guys seen what your wives are wearing in Walmart and Kroger! I enjoy the show every time.
11:52 you have to be a garbage thug of a human being to hang out at M Bar. And that’s the problem with County Line Road!

It was sarcasm, Sheldon. Get out much?
Did they ever identify the perp ?
I'm bright enough to know this;https://www.wlbt.com/2022/01/25/police-investigating-shooting-downtown-jackson/. It's rumored that quite a few people frequent the location of this shooting.
suicide or ambush of law enforcement it seems. sad the officers were not better marksmen under pressure.
I have lived in Madison since 1973. I didn’t move here to escape from Jackson where I grew up. Jackson used to be a nice city. Not anymore. I get so sick of people making comments about Madison. Makes me think you just waited too long to move and are now just mad you can’t afford to any more because your house isn’t worth much.
