The Reservoir (PRVWSD) Police Department issued the following statement.
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Retired Police Chief Perry Waggener.
Chief Waggener served the people and community of the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District for many years. Chief Waggener was dedicated to making sure that the Reservoir was safe for all who lived in the area and those who came to visit for recreation. Chief Waggener worked his way up from Spillway Operator, to Patrol Officer, to Chief of Police here at Pearl River Valley Water Supply District.
Chief Waggener was an influence to many officers who were looking to find a place in law enforcement and to those looking to begin their journey into law enforcement. Chief Waggener believed in opportunities for change and progression for the better when it came to work and everyday life. He lived life to the fullest and had one of the best sense of humor anyone could ever ask for in this lifetime.
We ask that you continue to keep his wife Debbie Waggener, brother Charlie Waggener, and the rest of the Waggener family and friends in your prayers.
Chief, it has been an honor to serve under your leadership and you are now able to get your rest! We at the Reservoir Police Department love you. "We have the watch from here!" Thank you for everything!

I learned a few days ago Perry was in bad shape. Perry was a first class guy. For so many years, he had a Christmas tree farm behind his house on North Old Canton Rd. He would have his tractor pulling a hay filled trailer for the kids to ride in. Perry....THANK YOU SO MUCH for your friendship. His brother Charlie is another FIRST class guy.
Chief Waggener was one of the best. Great man and friend.
I hate to hear this.
Chief Waggener was indeed a great guy !
And he was a great travel writer. Looked forward to stories of his travels on his FB page.
Funny, funny guy.
Totally awesome man who honored his profession and mankind by viewing people by who they were and being an awesome and personable law enforcement professional. Perry Waggoner was a class act for years and will be missed. Rest in heaven Chief Waggoner.
Keep an eye on your officers from up high, my friend. They know you’re now the King of Double Secret Probation. Love you, friend.
