Downtown has had enough of The Daiquiri Bar. Downtown Jackson Partners sent the following letter to Ted Orkin:
I am writing in regard to your leased property at 206/208 West Capitol Street that presently houses a nightclub called The Daquiri Bar. As president of Downtown Jackson Partners, I have received numerous and repeated complaints from Downtown residents and business owners about the presence of this establishment creating untenable problems, including life-threatening safety issues. To be clear, these problems were not occurring prior to your lease with this establishment. They include:
· Downtown residents walking or driving past your property who have been threatened by bar patrons milling outside your building. These residents, many of whom have lived Downtown for a decade or longer, have been told, "you don't belong here" and to "go home." The fact is, these residents are home.
· Guests of the King Edward Hotel across the street from your property who have been described as terrified to venture outside and have asked the parking valets, "Is it safe to stay here?" In one instance approximately three weeks ago, a hotel guest's car was struck by another car that was seen speeding past your building after circling your property numerous times. The driver fled the scene.
· Drug dealing that has been observed in front of and in the parking lot next to your building by "couriers" who ride motorcycles up and down Capitol Street.
· Chaos with traffic caused by drag racing and the illegal use of four-wheelers in front of your property. Again, these vehicles are circling your property over and over on a given night, creating safety and noise issues for residents.
Also to be clear, similar problems have NOT occurred to this degree in front of or around the other nightclubs located Downtown, including Lavish Lounge, 4th Avenue Lounge and Names & Faces bar.
In short, the situation as described above is hurting our chance of continuing to build a successful residential community in Downtown Jackson and attracting new business to the district.
On behalf of the hundreds of residents who live Downtown, and our property and business owners, I urge you, as the owner of this building, to help resolve these problems before they lead to even more serious incidents. Surely, as a Downtown property owner, you have some interest in our success and the safety of our residents and businesses.
Please let me know if you'd care to discuss the issues I've outlined.
Sincerely,
John Gomez
President
DOWNTOWN JACKSON PARTNERS

just like fondren garage...something cool will be taken away..
Who is more cucked here, JPD allowing a drug den in their own backyard or the residents downtown that continue to tolerate this and only respond with mildly worded letters?
I’m sure a letter is going to fix this problem 🙄
Human garbage isn't being dealt with in Jackson either.
Just a part of the outcome when you build a “nightlife” culture of bars & dives in any area. The “M Bar” in NE Jackson is another example.
If we are going to be capitalist we gotta support those that are investing in the city.
With saying all that, we need to do a better job with zoning. We need places where people can go out and have a good time.
@4:22 PM Zone decisions in Jackistan are based on the thickness of the palm grease, right?
ill say this for the "M-bar".....that place is packed to the rafters every night.
but being white bread, i can't go in there .
segregation is alive and well.
Where is The Prophet when you really need him? LMAO
What are the problems being caused? Of course I didn't read the article.
FUK'N told ya!!!!!!!!
As sung by Guns N' Roses..................
Welcome to the jungle, we've got fun and games
We got everything you want honey, we know the names
We are the people that can find whatever you may need
If you got the money, honey, we got your disease
Yeah, 4:08? Name one downtown area without bars or nightlife.
Jeez, Im against this specific nightclub operating as is, but your blanket statement is just beyond stupid.
I believe this was predicted and the usual suspects shouted it down as "racist".
The leader of this group was murdered. The murder was allegedly payback for a murder in his illegal strip club, Aces. When he was alive, it is alleged that the bulk of his cash flow was from drug trafficking. His mother now runs the empire. They own the Club Aces ( Ice might be the new name) that operates illegally every night its open. It is not licensed as a strip club; but, that is what it is. They sell bootleg liquor in there in addition to drugs. There have been shootings that the city has covered up. They also own Pop’s, yep that’s right. At Pops they sell beer past 2am every single night. And they just bought Club 43 north of the reservoir. The Mayor turns a blind eye and Mississippi ABC enforcement does nothing! Will the Governor not ask the Department of Revenue to get ABC off its ass do they a rea$on that they do absolutely nothing? The violations are flagrant and obvious.
A letter will not work. Ask a court to declare it a nuisance and shut it dow.
@4:53 PM
The majority of comments on Jackson Jambalaya are beyond stupid.
Fuck you been?
Pluto?
Nobody's gonna do shit about this.
Where's dynamite Bob when you need him?
4:38 gets my vote for best comment! Well…he is telling the TRUTH
The focus of this shitshow must be the building's owner, Ted Orkin, who, ironically, makes his living managing neighborhood associations in more affluent areas of the metro. So desperate to make a buck, he leased this property knowing full well it would create monumental problems Downtown. A true piece of shit never cares about consequences as long as the money is flowing.
Like many government agencies, ABC is working "remotely" on a limited basis last I heard. We are paying SO many employees of government agencies to stay home and do nothing. This is what happens with no accountability and full pay/benefits for not working. The rest of private businesses have been going full throttle since fall 2021. Regardless, this bar nonsense is spreading, and it is a bad look for the metro area.
according to frank melton and his little greaseball sicilian lawyer , it was the strip clubs that were ruining down town. i guess they finally figured out its the thug bars.
I’m a state employee and our offices were only remote for maybe two months. The only remote workers I know, are with the federal government.
That being said, many state employees have been “remote” for years. MHP troopers don’t come to the office to start the day
Pop's is awesome. It this is just a black version of Pop's, then yall need to chill.
I thought it was "open carry," "gun shows," "white flight," and "gentrification" that were ruining downtown, right?
No doubt that that AR pistol was stolen out of an F-150 owned by a very irresponsible owner.
I believe that there are laws in-place for all of the violations that were described in the letter. Seems like some policing would solve the problem. Gotta wonder why that isn't that happening...?
John. Stop being the face for these folks wanna keep downtown in the 1900s. they don’t care about you. Fix all the issues like drainage and lighting for safety issues downtown. We will talk face to face when I see u
Then you saying stuff like this don’t happen at 4th or names and faces ????? 4th had plenty of shootings in and outside the building where 2 security got shot ect. And not to long ago there was another shooting where a guy shot up the place from the outside . But I guess that’s not mentioned because the owner of the establishment is rich her daddy is a judge her cousin the DA . Then names and faces almost 1 month ago a guy got shot inside his car . Y’all just don’t want to see black people win and if y’all do y’all pick and choose
I can tell you now that these thugs that hang around the mayor get special treatment. MBAR last call and this downtown daiquiri shack. Chokwe could care less about the people living downtown especially since most are white professionals and besides the white owned businesses are not allowed to complain about minorities owning this ex con hangout for a daiquiri bar. Chokwe get your $hit together. The people are sick of your Whinny a$$ and John Gomez with downtown partners should show up in force at your office and tell you what successful Jackson residents really think of you.
When the downtown business people meet whizziner about these problems, infrastructure, water, etc, he asks them when are they going to bring a Top Golf or other business. He expects them to do the recruiting.
TO 8:15...i remember frank melton and his little greaseball sicilian lawyer..........they were the ones that got their asses handed to them on a platter to the tune of about $300,000 before wingate down in federal court back in 2006 when they shut down babes show club.
since then the city has been very careful who they F with.
Jackson bars have ALWAYS been drug dens and all night fight clubs.
10:48 Locked trucks with guns in them are the problem.
The gun owner who acquired it legally, and secured HIS vehicle is where we need to focus.
God help us.
Now Lumumba wants those convicted of drug dealing to become medical marijuana entrepreneurs. Yeah, that'll fix downtown, if by "fix" I mean cut off a black nose to spite a white face.
12:24 and 12:29: Do y'all think Lumumba doesn't pick and choose who succeeds? Or are you just banking on being one of his chosen few? If you think he actually cares about all black people, you're delusional. His first term in office made that clear.
Summa you people just have no idea how things work.
Example: A letter will not work. Ask a court to declare it a nuisance and shut it dow (sic).
In court, the first thing the judge will ask is 'Have you spoken with or attempted to contact the owner of the nuisance property in an attempt to resolve your complaint/issues?'
The letter posted above will satisfy the judge that a reasonable (at least initial) attempt has been made.
