Don't expect the same level of population growth in Madco or Stankin over the next 8-10 years. Pretty much everyone who can escape Kush has already fled.

There’s not a hill of beans difference between Ridgeland and Clinton based on this census. Considering the built in advantages Ridgeland has, Gene should be impeached.

Are Gluckstadt and Lake Caroline and surrounding neighborhoods incorporated into any of this data?
Lots of white population growth and new homes out there . . . .

Kingfish said...

I don't know. Are they in a county?

Anonymous said...

Hey, where's the Raymond stats?

Kingfish said...

Quick facts doesn't include data for towns less than 5,000

1:31 Dramatic much?
If you don't like Gene, move to Jackson. You'll change your tune! Selfish and spoiled and have no idea how lucky y'all are.

Clinton’s demise has been greatly exaggerated. It’s a sleepy Baptist college town and it’s not for everybody but a lot of us like living here. And I’m 10 minutes from Costco on the Trace.

I agree with @2:09 and to paraphrase @1:58: if you don't like Fisher, move your butt to Jackson or Marytown - we won't miss you.

1:31 PM
But who would replace him?

Anonymous said...

@2:09 PM If you can make it to Costco from Clinton in 10 minutes are you speeding big time. You must be one of the yahoos who tailgates and then passes in a no passing zone on a curve. Bless your heart.

I've the pleasure of knowing Gene Magee twenty plus years. He has been a financially responsible, creative (albeit not entirely perfect) Mayor who has planned well and taken good care of Ridgeland.

Compare Magee's Public Works, Police, Parks & Recreation and business development to the status of Ridgeland 25 years ago or against the rotting shambles of Jackson.

I'm happy to spend money in Ridgeland where that city is safe and well managed.

2:09 :Lived in that sardine can with the really ugly under belly they like to hide. Worst fast food service next to Byram anywhere in this state....

3:16. that person must live right near the trace and can be on it in less than a minute. it takes me 15 minutes to costco and i live in clinton and drive the 10 miles at 55mph. only slightly speeding. clinton isn’t far from renaissance at all

1:31- Clinton has, inspite of Jackson Public School transplants, maintained an excellent school system. Both Clinton & Ridgeland allowed too many apartments & apartment dwellers. In spite of excellent elected officials & police departments, crime is increasing & not necessarily violent crime- littering, reckless driving, speeding & running red lights are a problem. Lake Harbor Drive is dangerous to travel. Walk Ons and several other businesses are attracting the wrong crowd!

I’ve heard Buster us the term CAVE (citizens against
Virtually EVERYTHING)—-I have NO AXE to grind but I think he’s on to sumthin—-it seems that no matter WHAT is proposed in and around Chimneyville a number (how many?) of VERY VOCAL people are ALWAYS against it—sumtimes they’re right —MOST of the time “they” seems to be jealous harpies tryin to kill anything which upsets the status quo 😳😩

Kingfish said...

Crime has gone down in Clinton. Check the stats. Posted on city website.

More revealing than any of this info is the status of the public schools. It will determine growth, income, crime, everything.

Who the hell judges a city by fast food service?!

Anonymous said...

Jackson will be sub 135k by 2030.

Anonymous said...

9.7 miles door to door from NE Clinton to Costco. And we don't have gang wars at our restaurants. I only venture over there in the morning.

3:56...the fast foodie complainer. You might be in a better mood if you laid off the trans fats instead of complaining about the service of them.

You can take very fast food joint in my county and chunk them in the river and I won't lose a minute's sleep.

Anonymous said...

Well 1:30, that's good to hear, because we sure don't want your low level standards of living to impact ours by even .0001 percent.

Beside we can read the jealousy in your pitiful little attempt at being spiteful and everyone knows that you'd stay in the cesspool that jackson is, just to be called "progressive"!!!!!

Class, can we please proof read our comments before posting. I feel like I'm reading rants from Mississippians.

Crime in Clinton might have went down since there’s cameras everywhere. But then again the useless cops in Clinton hate writing reports on certain crimes.

Anonymous said...

I thought they changed the name of Ridgeland to Rentland.

But ask Andrew Mattice, Rentland needs more apartments.

4:06 is absolutely correct!
I have a friend who moved to Clinton bc of schools … they are thriving academically, extracurricularly and spiritual and the family couldn’t be happier….we are in Madison at MRA and feel the same way . Both are great places to be

Please present the current real estate mileage rates for each municipality.

Anonymous said...

@10:49 the muni millage rates are offered up here frequently. Just five days ago in fact.

You'll have to calculate the mileage rates yourself.

Anonymous said...

5:02 : I don't eat fast food. I do think you can judge a community by its customer service ! My info is gathered by listening. BYRAM and CLINTON are rife with lazy, bad attitude food service workers who frankly hate serving you 13/15 an hour. Says a lot about the community at large.

Anonymous said...

@10:49 PM - you will have to go to IRS.GOV to learn the approved mileage rates.

This blog-site repetitively assumes that population increases in Madison and Rankin are due to 'people escaping Jackson'.

Is that necessarily true? If so, how is that information obtained? My family moved to Madison-The City, and we did not come out of Jackson. Nor did anybody survey us to ask from where we had moved? As a matter of fact, most of the neighbors that moved into my subdivision after we did had not lived in Jackson.

If you want to assume something, that's fine. Just be honest and state it's an assumption.

If you live in Jackson move to Eastover/Leftover area. Great properties, and over the last 10+ years I've lived there I have never experienced any crime personally. Lived in Fondren for 30+ was robbed once (the broke into parked car when I was gone), and had 2 people try to break into cars at house. Obviously my experience is not everyone's but I do tend to see people overblow the reality of crime in the nicer parts of Jackson. Most of the crime remains isolated to downtown & beyond area in my experience

8:33 AM Good point.

Anonymous said...

@8:33 AM - Exactly. We moved to Madison the City from another state.

Anonymous said...

8:16 you think all of the people working at Rally's in Ridgeland or Sonic in Byram are actually from Ridgeland or Byram? Please tell me you are not that stupid. If you get bad service at Burger King, that is a management issue and a lack of labor supply issue, not which side of the border you live on.

Walk in any chain retailer in Madison the city and you will see employees staring at mobile devices followed by a look of condescension that they might actually have to put it down and work.

Anonymous said...

I will have to agree with 2:09pm that Clinton is a sleepy college town! I grew up there and it refuses to progress with new businesses with the exception of the schools. I loved the schools and skating rink. That’s about it lol

The whole Metro has its ups and downs but they are great places to live. From reading the commits every area has it charm but it not for everyone. Find the area with your charm and don’t worry about the rest and you will be just find. I stay outside the metro because that’s my charm.

Anonymous said...

Belhaven, Belhaven Heights, and the Fondren would be fantastic neighborhoods to live at if not for the:

Extremely high crime in general
Violent crime
Vagrants
Commie mayor
Pot holes with their own zipcodes
Unreliable water
Frequent boil water notices
Sewage issues
High property taxes
High vehicle registration fees

What did I leave out?

Anonymous said...

I think Jackson’s water is the safest in the Metro area because MDSH requires them to issue a boil water notice every time there is a water break. The surrounding cities and associations have water breaks frequently but are not required to publicly issue a boil water notice. This is very interesting…….

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.

Jackson Jambalaya is the home of Trollfest '07. Catch this great event which promises to leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Sonjay Poontang and his band headline the night with a special steel cage, no time limit "loser must leave town" bout between Alan Lange and "Big Cat"Donna Ladd following afterwards. Kamikaze will perform his new song F*** Bush, he's still a _____. Did I mention there was no referee? Dr. Heddy Matthias and Lori Gregory will face off in the undercard dueling with dangling participles and other um, devices. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.

There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. Tom Head will give a reading for two hours on why he can't figure out who the hell he is. Cliff Cargill will give lessons with his .80 caliber desert eagle, using Frank Melton photos as targets.
