Posted below is an update on the Riverside Drive construction.
Beginning either this Tuesday or Wednesday depending on weather forecasts, temporary one way traffic on Riverside Dr from Peachtree St to Museum Blvd will swap directions and swap sides of the street. The traffic swap is necessary because work will begin on the new 16 inch water distribution line under the eastbound lanes as part of the overall street reconstruction. This change will continue until further notice.
Summary of Changes:
- Riverside Dr Westbound from Museum Blvd to Peachtree St: Open to Traffic. Riverside Dr Westbound will be accessible from Lakeland Dr.
- Riverside Dr Eastbound from Peachtree St to Museum Blvd: Closed to Traffic. There will be no access from Riverside Dr Eastbound to Lakeland Dr. Motorists must use an alternative route.
- Riverside Dr both directions from Peachtree St to State St: All lanes Open in both directions.
Motorists are advised to drive carefully through the work zone and obey all signs including one way signs.
The Riverside Drive project is funded by the 1% Municipal Special Sales Tax.

Drive carefully through the work zone? Based on the condition of Riverside Drive and the crime rate in that area I would call it more like a "war zone".
Lol, ready yourselves idiot drivers. This one could get stupid.
This is long overdue. Glad it is finally coming to fruition.
In 1988 Riverside was repaved and in perfect condition.
The soil conditions underlying the road are as bad as they get. Highly expansive soil and poor drainage created the road conditions we have there today. (Not trying to start an argument about the live oaks)
My point is, if the road builder does not remove 5-6’ of the soil underneath the existing road bed then this process will have to be repeated in 20 or so years.
So here is hoping to proper reconstruction so that a once picturesque street can be brought back to life.
A Backstop should be erected to prevent bullets from travelling to I-55
If you remove 5-6' of the soil and create a channelized roadway on each side, Riverside can also handle draining the surface sewage for insertion untreated directly into the Pearl. Win-win.
Lipstick on a pig.
Regarding Jackson projects, I've waited years to see the word 'fruition' appear in a post.
Honestly, even when roads around here are "done right", they buckle and move. I say scrape it flat, resurface, plan to do that again in 5 -10 years. lather. rinse. repeat. Highland Colony got dug down to the earth's mantle and it still sucked about a decade in. I have no confidence in that method at all.
