Bomgar Says See Ya

State Representative Joel Bomgar issued the following statement on Facebook.

I wanted to let you know that I will not be running for re-election during the upcoming 2023 legislative elections. Even though the qualifying deadline is not until February, I wanted to make this announcement now so that anyone interested in serving would have enough time to make that decision.

I have thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated the privilege to represent our district in the Mississippi House of Representatives for the last seven years. From the 11 years I spent building Bomgar Corporation to the 7 years I have spent in the House of Representatives, my passion has always been to honor God and make our state and country a better place.

With each new season of life comes new callings, and that is where I find myself at this point in my life. My opportunity to make a positive impact in the private sector as President of Próspera, where we are building the world’s first free private cities / charter cities, continues to grow. With the ever-increasing demands of this opportunity, as well as increased international travel, it has once again become time to focus on only the things where I can have the highest possible impact for good, and for the near future that is once again in the private sector.

I owe a huge debt of gratitude to my wife Rachel and my children for allowing me to serve as their representative and yours. I have made many, many new friends along the way, learned so much, and am proud of the public policy contributions I was able to make.

I look forward to continuing to serve you through the remainder of my term. If anybody needs me, I am always available and always here to serve. You can reach me anytime via email at joel@joelbomgar.com or on my cell phone at (601) 207-0813. Thank you to each of you that have made all of this possible!

The brain drain continues, it won’t be long before him, his companies and his money will be in Atlanta or New York.

More like Honduras pal.

Private cities? Is that sorta like what Chokwe, the elder, envisioned?

Joel was bitten on the ass by the cloaked messenger of persona non grata. He was always first to be put out in the gym dodge-ball game.

He will be missed by the parking attendant and custodian. Joel always tipped a quarter.

let me guess that their coin of the realm shall be dogecoin said...

Sounds like they are seceding to form their own free State of WingNuttia.

Bomgar already sold his company.

When the Mississippi legislature isn't far right enough for you then you start wanting your oun private Idaho. Where you can go underground like a wild potato!

I spent a few minutes on the prospera website and still do not have the slightest clue what they do.

Maybe Bruce will run again.

Joel got what he wanted, legalized pot. Gee, thanks,Joel. Time to move on.

Anonymous said...

He was only at the capital a few days this past session, he needs to quit now.
He went and bought an island so he could start his own country so he could be president. What an arrogant arse. Leave already!

Bruce has a chance! A slight chance. But as they say in Dumb and Dumber, he has a chance!

Good riddance!

Bomgar the company was bought in 2018 by BeyondTrust.

I getting on the train with him. It’s smell bad around here.

5:29 "his money and his companies will be in Atlanta or New York". Did you get your MBA from Millsaps while Joel was across the street learning how to become a multi-millionaire? Try Texas or Florida, Soy Boy.

Anonymous said...

By the looks of the comments I thought he was a Democrat. Boy, am I shocked! Talk about eating your own flesh. Geesh…

Anonymous said...

Be careful what you wish for. Bruce seems/acts/appears to be dumber than a stump. Besides having NO resume, he can't tell us what his platform is, what his vision is or what his priorities are.

He's good, though at repeating, "I support law enforcement" and "I'm a conservative and will represent everybody". Hell, Forest Gump could memorize those two lines.

Attn 10:21 I got my MBA at Millsaps! And yes, I am a multi millionaire.

I did not always agree with Bomgar. I didn’t vote for him, reluctantly. However, the legislature drew him out of his district. Madison county has been carved up to serve the interests of Gunn. When he runs for Governor the people of Madison County should realize they have 2 people to blame for their lack of power and representation, Gunn and Steen. Madison’s state representation is Democratic. Madison has Jill Steen. Every other elected official is a Democrat or weak Hinds County RINO. Gunn carved up Madison so he and Briggs Hopson remain safe. Reunion people start asking what Cooper tire and a nice guy from Vicksburg do for you? How does one of the largest Republican strongholds in the State have NO representation? Reunion, Caroline, Annandale where is the concern?

Bomgar was definitely one of the brightest minds in the Capitol. He was certainly independent.

Easy to sit behind a keyboard in anonymity and criticize. It’s another to actually get stuff done. I don’t agree with him on everything but he gets stuff done. Best of luck to him.

8:13, the concept is certainly a little too complex for some people.

Joel sold Bomgar in 2014. He held a board/advisor position shortly before his political run. Once he ran for state rep he was no longer part of Bomgar. Bomgar bought Lieberman, Avecto, and BeyondTrust in 2018. Bomgar took the BeyondTrust name in late 2018 and rebranded in early 2019.

Good luck! Thank you for your service and the medicinal relief.

10:50, the establishment in Mississippi can’t stand Bomgar because he is an actual conservative with real solutions and creative ideas.

Anonymous said...

Where are "private cities" in the state constitution? Can anyone cite the article/section?

Anonymous said...

Joel Bomgar is way too smart for anyone in this state. None of you people can understand his brilliance.

Anonymous said...

Tropical Island or Jackistan? Tough decision, right?

@8:13 AM - It isn't, nor is Roatán, Honduras, where his private city is located. Try to keep up.

Anonymous said...

He'd be running for election in the redrawn HD64 and stood a good chance of being defeated. HD58 was going to have new representation regardless. Always the scam artist. Big fat zero as a Legislator.

Thank you, Joel, for your service. You accomplished many good things here. I want to go with you out of this redneck hell hole state. We're currently shopping for a second home in Maine for summers and will reluctantly return to Mississippi in winter.

Which Council member do you sponsor? Virgi?

You accomplished many good things here.

Specifically what did he accomplish beyond bankrolling medical dope? Put up.

"Easy to sit behind a keyboard in anonymity and criticize. It’s another tEo actually get stuff done. I don’t agree with him on everything but he gets stuff done."

Who are you saying 'gets stuff done' and what 'stuff' are you referencing? As you read (above) Bomgar showed up several times this session, so it can't be him who was 'getting stuff done'. He voted twice against animal cruelty penalty increase...so he didn't 'get that stuff done'. If you're talking about Bomgar, can you relate to us any 'stuff' he got done while drawing that check for several years? And the per diem, which, to him, was all just pocket change.

To 6:58 - Who is Jill Steen?

Anonymous said...

Bomgar is one of the "good guys" all yall dense haters.

It's sad to see conservatives chew up other conservative-libertarians.
And we wonder why conservatives as a group have such a difficult time making progress....and why the Left has "won". Basically it's bc of RINOs and those who have supported them.

Wow said...

The dude literally documented why he voted what on each bill.

Amazing.

Things every representative should be doing. Basic responsibilities of being a servant of the people.

I agree with the comments about Gunn and the carving up of Madison County.

I agree with a real conservative with creative solutions assessment for Bomgar being run off by the bourbon drinking trough eating "conservatives" who are in reality big government socialists. It's crazy the things our government here in Mississippi is unnecessarily involved in.

Anonymous said...

9:38, you can’t be so dense as to question that Joel gets things done. You may not agree with the things he gets done but he gets them done. What multimillion dollar tech company did you found run?

Anonymous said...

@12:08, what has he gotten done in the Legislature?

Kingfish said...

Bomgar came in with Hose GOP leadership immediately against him. In fact, they recruited BB as his opponent. Didn't put any $$ into the campaign but the recruitied him nonetheless. Once elected, one rep went to lunch at Bomgar's invitation, then proceeded to tell the rookie rep he could forget about introducing any legislation because they were going to kill it no matter what it was. He didn't help his cause by voting against local/private bills on philosophical grounds, earning the wrath of more than a few colleagues.

I remember when he took on the Medical Board over the proposed opioid regulations. He made a great deal of sense as he appeared armed with rheams of data. He voted against some bills such as animal cruelty and other criminal code legislation because he found studies that said for certain crimes, prison did little good after xyz years. I disagreed with the votes but understood where he was coming from. He took his job seriously and tried to research what was put in front of him. Heaven forbid.

This feels like the beginning of a bad movie. Joel goes to an island, becomes a dictator, makes everyone smoke pot and be libertarian, invades the Seychelles, and is killed by a bad case of crabs. (He ate them, not got them).

C'est Finis.

Anonymous said...

Good luck Joel.

Thanks for trying to improve the garbage we tolerate in the Legislature.
You cant beat this good ole boy network.

And we all suffer because of it.

Anonymous said...

Kingfish loves to make shit up. Bomgar said he voted against the increased penalty for animal cruelty because it represented 'bigger government'....whatever the hell that meant. Didn't have shit to do with a XYZ year in prison doing no good.

Anonymous said...

Sure sounds Kingfish like he wasn't cut out for the job from the outset. Pretty damn naïve on his part to assume the legislative seas would part for a Freshman member. He might be bright but he sure doesn't understand Mississippi, compromise, horsetrading and how to work a room. He should have never run for re-election. His smarts have been more hindrance than benefit in the House. Communicating ad nauseam to the commoners back in the district why you've voted 'No' on nearly everything up for consideration for seven years is nothing more than a different shade of the egomania that afflicts Lumumba. Now he's headed off for a private utopian echo chamber off the coast of Honduras where they make shoe racks out of construction scraps. Seriously. How fitting.

Bomgar won't be missed because he was never really there.

Joel cannot be bought, is not at all intimidated by the label of "different," and does not give a rip about being a member of the "in" club. He does care about the socio-economic condition of every family in this state, and he cares about the quality of education of every child. He was courageous to take on an issue about medical marijuana, and there will be many critically ill Mississippians who are helped by it. I just hope he is not burned out, and that we will see him again on the political stage.

Anonymous said...

So here is an interesting question for the political minded people. Why would the House redistricting Committee Chairman cut Joel out of Dist. 58 even though they all knew he was leaving anyway? The cut out was intentional if you see the map. Joel residence is in Shanda district now. Anyway, it’s curious non the less.

Anonymous said...

1:06 how about medical marijuana. Hell, he made it legal twice.

Anonymous said...

6:53 Yep, Bomgar invested millions into pot farms in Mississippi, got pot legalized, and now he is out of the legislature.

Bomgar is perhaps the worst case of self dealing Mississippi has seen in years. Bomgar is a classic example that brilliance does not equal moral.

Anonymous said...

Simple, the establishment wanted him out. Period. Mary, Gunn, Gene….I do think Tate and Dilbert still respected him but the rest of the establishment is far from libertarian/conservative.

Macy Hanson said...

I would love to meet Joel Bomgar and shake his hand. Thank you, Joel. You have principles. Respect.

Anonymous said...

Upon what, specifically, do you base your comment, Macy? Answer up.

Anonymous said...

Wait, a private city in South America? Didn't Henry Ford already do this?

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fordl%C3%A2ndia

"Sociologists say that the reasons Fordlandia failed was a lack of upcycled shoe racks, not enough people smoking pot, jail sentences were too long, and, most importantly, the lack of a brilliant entrepreneurial libertarian leader."

Anonymous said...

If any of you keyboard warriors ever met Joel, you would know he is not a pot head. I suppose in MS he may be Libertarian to a fault.

Quirky guy, but very bright and ambitious. He has infectious energy and is a good leader.

Macy said...

@1:09: the fact that he seems to be a true libertarian capitalist who believes in small government. The fact that he is philosophically consistent.

Anonymous said...

Perhaps the writing was on the wall. There are a lot of Mississippians that think it’s time to flush the toilet in Jackson both republican and democrat. And after the legislators dragged their feet on medical cannabis voters may be out for blood. I don’t think he’s going to far and will probably be opening grow and dispensaries around the state. The apple doesn’t fall to far from the tree.

1:36, you would make a good politician. WTF did you just say

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
