Surprise, surprise. The man who killed two Baptist Hospital employees yesterday is a graduate of the Hinds County catch & release program.
A grand jury indicted Holmes in 2014 for strangling his sister in 2013. This being Hinds County, his sister told Assistant District Attorney Greta Mack that she wanted to reduce the charge to a misdemeanor. The ADA and Circuit Judge Winston Kidd acceded to the request. Judge Kidd reduced the felony to a misdemeanor, sentenced Holmes to serve 6 months in jail, and then suspended the sentence.
Greta Mack? Where have we heard that name before? JJ reported on December 16, 2019:
21 years if the question is asked in Hinds County. Hinds County Assistant District Attorney Greta Mack and Circuit Judge Winston Kidd approved a plea bargain that will allow Marcus Mallett to only serve 21 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to 2nd Degree Murder in the death of Shanitra Ramsey.
JPD charged him with allegedly killing 21 year-old Shanitra Ramsey on February 5. JPD also charged him for shooting Ramsey's friend several times as he fled the scene. Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries agents arrested Mallett the killer a week later during a traffic stop. Earlier post.
A Hinds County grand jury indicted Mallett for first degree murder for the death of Ramsey. It also indicted him for aggravated assault, carjacking, and shooting into an occupied vehicle. Ramsey and Joshua Ledbetter were in the vehicle when Mallett began shooting. He shot Joshua Ledbetter as he fled. The indictment included a classification for Mallett as a habitual offender....
Mallett pleaded guilty on December 3 to second degree murder. The District Attorney accepted the plea. Judge Winston Kidd sentenced him to serve 40 years in prison but suspended 15 years of the sentence and gave him credit for time served. 25 years thus becomes 21 years. Mallett will be 51 years old when he is released from prison for killing Shanitra Ramsey. Rest of article.
WLBT reported Holmes faced a murder charge back in 2007 but it is not known what happened to the charges.

What a monster. It is unfortunate that society has devolved to tolerate such savagery.
Seventy years ago his neighbors would've given him what he deserved had justice not been served.
But now it's catch and release and he left so many victims.
Horrible, horrible. I think this is a reason to protest. This guy shouldn’t have been out to kill again. Prayers for the families that lost loved ones yesterday.
BUT BUT Kingfish! He drove to Pearl to kill himself! It was obviously a Rankin County redneck on meth (keep your crimes in Rankin and stay out muh Bold New City, haters!)
KF your prejudice of disparaging remarks is showing.
WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FUCK??? I'm so glad I moved away from that shithole...
The Baptists pride themselves on concealed carry members providing "security"on Sunday mornings.
But at the same time, they prohibit trained security from carrying a weapon until they're "on the clock" ?
Shaking my head
This might (and should) bite a big chunk out of the Southern Baptist Convention's checking account.
I am an attorney and I know Greta. She is a good attorney. It's so easy for people who dont practice to get on a website and stay what should happen. But you all dont know all the facts. If the victim says they dont want a person prosecuted and will not show up for trial, what is the DA supposed to do? Things like that happen in every county.
Once again the Hinds County D.A.'s Office strikes again along with Judge Kidd. Until that office hires ADAs with some guts and backbone (and who live in Hinds County), this will never change. The judges are rubber-stamping the recommendations of the D.A.'s office for the most part. The judges who are giving blessings, including Kidd, should be un-elected.
Sounds like the folks at Baptist will probably be dealing with Morgan & Morgan soon.
