MDOC Update

Everyone knows the story.  Parchman is out of control right now as law enforcement struggles to regain control of the prison.  Five inmates have died this week while the Commissioner shows her incompetence as she sends out BS press releases that remind one of Baghdad Bob. Posted below are social media pictures and videos that give one a better idea of what is taking place. Some of it is pretty graphic. Meanwhile, the Governor checks out as he praises MDOC staff and law enforcement on Twitter.  Food for thought: Would we have any clue what was going on in Parchman if the inmates didn't have smartphones?

Where’s Fisher and Pelicia. And Ole Phil

Anonymous said...

Pelicia you will need more than a million tax payers dollars now to rebuild your institutions. Do you think now that CONVICT on the back of their jump suit is still degrading?????? YOU HUGE JOKE!!

The Governor couldn't wait two more weeks to go on vacation. He's not here.

Who really believes that deputy commissioners gutherz or Williams have a clue of how to handle this situation. For heaven's sake can we get a professional at this agency.

I mean my freshman dorm at Hinds looked worse than that. Prison shouldn’t be nice. You shouldn’t have luxuries. I’ve seen some of the living conditions of people in south Jackson. Prison shouldn’t be an upgrade.

Starting in 2017 our right-wing legislature started drastically cutting prison budgets. Should we really be surprised that underpaid guards aren't doing their job? That is, should we really be surprised that the 50% of guards that are still on the job aren't doing their jobs?

This is what happens when you let capitalists destroy the state system -- it opens the doors to private prisons who pay prisoners $1/day to do your job from behind bars.

Where is the Governor-Elect? Probably hiding in his gated community and lining up donations for that $250,000 meal next week. What a joke! No leadership. Just photo ops with Trump.

Cynical Sam said...

No running water, no heat, and few meals, but they have cell phones, drugs, and staff that put out for the cons.

Quit your complaining.

Anonymous said...

This has been a long time coming - it goes back to the Epps scandal and perhaps earlier- much was not reported but could be found by a search of court records

Anonymous said...

Would someone please educate me? I was always under the impression cell phones were considered contraband, yet it is very common to see inside videos coming out of our Mississippi institutions.

Oh an 4:26, you're an idiot.

Anonymous said...

For all of you uneducated mouth breathers blaming the Governor-elect, he is not sworn in or empowered to deal with the executive agencies of which MDOC is one until January 14. Judge him however harshly from that point forward. In the meantime, this is Phil's crisis.

5:28, when the governor (aka Philbilly) is awol or out of state, the Lt. Gov (aka Tater) IS in charge.

Put all these SOBs in tents and feed them MREs. If it's good enough for our military, it damn sure isn't "cruel and unusual punishment".

Anonymous said...

@5:17, on what grounds?

How many jobs - from minimum wage to decent jobs - are taken by prisoners?

South MS Correctional Institution in Leakesville is proud of the fact that they offer "free inmate labor" to Greene County and adjacent municipalities -- jobs as menial as emptying trashcans to as well paying as road repair.

Parchman's proud of the fact they've offered over 100,000 hours of "free offender labor" per year in textile and metal fabrication -- those are well paying industrial jobs not going to you and me.

Central MS Correctional Facility in Pearl has a suture cleaning operation for Johnson & Johnson -- more good jobs being filled by slave labor.

Who suffers? You and me having less opportunity and prisoners working as slaves.

Who benefits? Capitalists earning 100% profit from free slave labor.

And we don't even know what's going on in the for-profit prisons -- they've got to be making a ton of extra cash by virtue of exploited labor.

What's capitalism given us here in Jackson? New drive ways for the Tate Reeves of the world, and more raw sewage running into the drive ways of the rest of us.

If a state or privately run company cannot keep order in a jail/prison then the inmates should have the right to sue.

Get rid of the televisions, retraining, library or whatever else but keep inmates safe. That is the responsibility you assume when you take away someones freedom.

Also, any corrections officer who brings in contraband should get stiff prison sentences. This puts everyone at risk.

Anonymous said...

But 5:28, the Governor-elect is currently the Lt Governor and likely has more responsibility for the current situation in MDOC than the Gov. And where is the Lt Gov.?

Education:. One reason for cell phones is that a $12 per hour prison guard can make a lot of money selling smuggled cell phones for $100 to $500 each.
Some prison guards are gang members. If they aren5t arrested as an adult, there is no public record to keep corrections from hiring them....
All you need is a couple of transport guards that re gang members to create a lot of trouble....

Guv PhilBilly is AWOL because his travel per diem pads his retirement. Either that, or he's watching his security run the dozer down on his farm.

I see several people talking about budget cuts and Tater Tots responsibility. I do recall a large surplus someone was celebrating a few months ago. Such a bonehead. Quit cutting funding everywhere to celebrate a surplus.

These videos should be shown all over the state to the criminal-wanna-bees.

This is what prison life is like. Don't like it? Don't break the law.

Anonymous said...

Well, ol' Phil is going out with a bang (literally). He is leaving a pile of shit for Tate. But wait, Tate has been a part of the problem of underfunding the prison system where guards are not paid shit to do shitty jobs. No doubt, the inmates are running the asylum. Good job guys!

Even Bloomberg was using prison labor as a call center for his presidential campaign.

Haley simply pardoned some prisoners on his way out. Philbilly chose a different approach. He simply let his incompetence do the job.

Anonymous said...

The Governor is in charge of MDOC until the moment of inauguration.

Anonymous said...

The Governor is on vacation so the state can pay for it. Duh. Worse things could happen on the way out the door I guess. Like pardoning 100 people.

Anonymous said...

There are way worse pics out there. There is a video of a man hanging that the inmates claim had been there for over 12 hours. There is a video of a man burning another man to death. There are multiple pictures of rooms that look like slaughter house floors. 5 is a very low estimate. I would say 10 is low from what I have heard an seen.

Think what you will of prisoners. I am no fan. However, how we treat them and the conditions they live in says a lot about us as well.

Anonymous said...

Ms good ole boy system has destroyed her! She is gone.

Anonymous said...

To the tough guy saying we should “put them in tents and make them eat MREs” - you should educate yourself and look at some of the images coming out of our prisons. MREs and tents would be an upgrade from dirty expired food and facilities leaking with standing water everywhere. If you think this “teaches them something” and expect them to leave this environment any better than when they went in, you are delusional.

9:32, the esteemed Haley Barbour pardoned 208 convicted felons as he walked out the Governor's back door. It would be a great research project to see where are all of these "reformed" individuals today and what they've been up to after being unshackled.

Portia said...

As others have correctly observed here: prison is SUPPOSED to be gruesome. A microcosm, or at least a glimpse, of Hell, which is our Christian metaphor for eternal punishment. If it is a safe and comfortable place, with predictable mealtimes, just and kindly wardens, and amenities like television, then it isn’t much of a punishment, especially for worthless thugs. Most of these would have a much bumpier life “outside.” You rob, steal, a d kill, you go to jail, and if you are murdered there, well, you weren’t doing anyone any good, anyway.

Anonymous said...

Teachers aren't paid shit to do shitty jobs either.....Mississippi's government is upside down backwards, and dirt dumb Christian redneck racists with law degrees running the show. What a charlie foxtrot.

Anonymous said...

send feeling cute trooper to stop this. Inside the walls of 29 she could send a selfie of where am I. Chris and Fisher would love that.

@8:52 PM - you can't have it both ways. If you are generous and want to give the guards a raise, your taxes will have to increase.

But wait, if that group gets a raise, then all other state public safety officers will demand a raise.

See the pattern? The reason that taxes are low in Mississippi is because the cost of government is low.

On one video a prisoner said they hadn't eaten in 10 hours. I eat breakfast at 6:00 AM, then take my butt to work running a large company that is extremely successful. I work hard at it. Often I don't stop and eat until I get home at night. So quit whining.

The conditions are admittedly horrible. But they would be just as horrible in my house if I tore evertything up and let my family tear stuff up. Inmates at jails will purposely start fires, clog toilets, break stuff, etc. There isn't enough money in the world to fix everything they break on purpose.

Th conditions are so bad, I can't understand why people volunteer to go there. Remember that everybody there volunteered to be there. The exceptions would be someone who is innocent, which is probably less than 1%. Prison is terrible, that's one reason I obey the law. I do not want to go to jail.

Amen! 0829 but the one thing is that our Commissioner and Gov has allowed this to coexist for so long. Despite warnings and all other signs this would happen. Not the first time but ongoing. It’s not ran like a prison. How can a 60 year old female be in charge of an entire male unit. With app 50 males! She can’t. She was hired to replace a male. One that stood his ground. That wouldn’t go along with Fisher and now Hall. Had respect in the units and was feared. But yet fired to hire her. She was a friend needed a job for ins. Young girls alike. Brought in so they could sell their services and compensate for the low wages. Bring in other goods for the inmates. Look at all the phones. A real shake down can not occur. Too short staffed to do it effectively. The list goes on. However it is prison but this nation is covered with institutions like MS. The thing we have they don’t is Marshal Fisher Pelicia Hall. 2 most grossly incompetent leaders this state could offer.

I have to drive from Madison County to Airport Road five days a week, if I take time to have breakfast I’ll be late for work. Plenty of days I don’t eat until lunch break. Suck it up.

These videos should be shown to all thugs thinking about committing their next crime. No one promised them the Ritz Carlton.

502 am - that wold be an easy task. 175 of those 'convicted felons' had been out of prison for years, some decades, at the time they were pardoned. Some were probably working in businesses you or your friends utilize. Some were in your Sunday School class, or working with the youtheme at your church.

Despite your inference that they walked out the front door of Parchman when they were pardoned, most had served their time and only had their rights restored by those pardons. Sorry to bust your bubble.

7am
Correction officers are paid a hell of a lot less than teachers. They have a job that they stand a chance of getting killed. I am tired of hearing how low paid our teachers are. These officers are paid such poor salaries that most can receive food stamps. That is terrible. I hope Tate will address this and not kick the can like Phil did. HB 585 has saved the state millions a year. Let’s put some of that back into the MDOC. However, first Tate needs to find someone to run this place properly.

The state gained $40 million in revenue from the prison reform that Epps initiated with the Legislature and was finally signed by Bryant when Epps was caught. MDOC has not seen one dime of that money. Zilch, zero, nada has been put back into the system. Hall was merely a pawn in Bryant and Fisher's game. They knew she wasn't a fighter. Where did the $$$ go? If you think Epps and his friends were the only ones getting rich, I have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale just for you. Bryant is the reason private prisons are in our great state. Please, Dear Lord, send in the DOJ, so the chickens can come home to roost. In the meantime, can anybody get Epps out for a few days even to clean up this mess?! NONE of this would have happened on his watch...period. This is not about liking or not liking someone...it's about stating facts. We as taxpayers are about to lose close to what Epps and his friends cost us when the ACLU comes calling; and at the end of the day there are many others like Epps and friends getting rich right under our noses, and the national media is having a field day exposing how the great state of Mississippi treats its majority youn black and poor white male prisoners. I'm sure we are number 1 on every fortune 500 company's list...to stay the Hell away from!!!

Just about every one 16 or older is guilty of a crime in Mississippi... better watch out guys..

"Where did the money go?" - LOL Question of the century in MS. 9:24, obviously you are a Barbour sycophant. The rest of us agree with MS Supreme Court Justice Michael Randolph's dissent pertaining to the ruling upholding Barbour's pardons as being "a stunning victory for some lawless convicted felons and an immeasurable loss for the law-abiding citizens of our state."

Anonymous said...

12:23 thanks for quanitating it, that's alot of booty.

4:17, no, not a Barbour fan. Just happen to have known three or four of those that were pardoned - one working for the car dealer that he was convicted of embezzling from (he served his time, paid his restitution, and went back to work at the same place; another that had been out for 18 years, convicted of a small maryjo sale to protect his then wife - remarried, running the youth program at his church. Could continue, but the facts are there.

Randolph's comments weren't aimed at all the pardons - just the ones that the media and sycophants like you want to point to as representing all 200 - which basically focused on the trustees at the mansion (which have been receiving pardons for decades, but that in itself doesnt justify it.)

Yes, there were a few that I couldn't fathom - but to continue the myth that he opened the gates of the prisons and let them out doesn't meet with the facts.

Live on in your own Trumpionian world - make the facts like you like them.

DOJ doesn't have time for stuff like that anymore.

President has them busy chasing chimeras!

Anonymous said...

Those are deplorable conditions, which I would bet at least 90% was caused by inmates. From flooding their cells to destroying anything metal to make a shank, it's hard to feel sorry for the ones who cause damage and chaos. On the other hand, there are probably numerous inmates that just want to do their time and get out. I do feel for those folks and their families. This has to be a scary time for them.

Anonymous said...

Thanks, Feel. Can't get a driver's license renewal done in less than 11 hours and keep the water mopped up at Parchman, but you can disappear in the middle of all that for much-needed vacay. Thanks a lot. What a leader, huh?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
