It appears our Metrocenter Mama was busted for some fraud a few years ago. A Jefferson County jury convicted Emily Sanders of two counts false pretenses in 2012. Circuit Judge Lamar Pickard sentenced her to serve ten years in prison consecutively but the second ten years was to be suspended if she repaid $130,000 to the victim.
The verdict states she "fraudulently" represented to Dudley Guice that she had an agreement with Moran Foods to open a Save-A-Lot grocery store in Fayette. Guice invested $130,000 with Sanders. She was granted parole in 2014 and is currently on probation.
The Natchez Democrat reported in 2013:
A Natchez woman will spend 10 years behind bars for her part in a business scheme that reportedly bilked an investor by never opening the business into which the victim poured their money.Ms. Sanders made the news yesterday as she announced on Facebook she purchased Metrocenter for $10 million.
Emily Sanders, 53, 302 Mansfield Drive, was sentenced in District 22 Circuit Court in Fayette Monday to 10 years in prison followed by 10 years probation for her October conviction on two counts of false pretense.
The sentencing magistrate, Judge Lamar Pickard, also ordered Sanders to pay $132,000 in restitution.
At that time, officials said she had allegedly told a Jefferson County resident she was looking for a business investor. Sanders reportedly told the investor she had already collected three-quarters of the funds needed.
However, the business reportedly never opened, and even though the money was supposed to be put into an escrow account, that never happened, officials said.
Sanders’ husband, Merrick Sanders, was also charged in March, but when the matter was taken before a grand jury the jury did not return a bill charging Merrick Sanders.
The grand jury also changed the charges against Emily Sanders to false pretense.
The Secretary of State website states that she and her husband, Merrick, opened Ashley Sanders Seiferth Properties in 2009. The address for Emily and Merrick Sanders was 818 Main Street in Natchez, the same address stated in the sentencing order.
Ms. Sanders opened a new company on December 31, 2019. She is listed as the registered agent for Ashley Sanders & Seiferth Holdings, LLC. Lord Snow attorney Reed Nunnelee organized the corporation.

Imagine that. I’m sure it was all just a misunderstanding.
Convicted felon “owns” Metrocenter. That’s about right.
Who lent her the money for this?
Kingfish, you ought to add that Illinois Securities Order from the 1st post to the article/scribd
@2:07 - Per 2:05’s post, it appears that’s just what they did up in Illinois. Got busted and came down to Mississippi and started up again. Most get away with it down here.
The theme of ten's keeps coming up in her life.
In the video, she says "we are about ten days into ownership"
$10M for the purchase of Metrocenter
In the video, she says "we are going to have a state of the art 10,000 sq ft day care center"
10 years sentence for false pretenses
10 years commuted for paying back the victim 10 x $13,000 to the victim.
She lives at 302 Mansfield Drive, the numbers 3,0, and 2 add up to five: half of ten.
Ad valorem taxes for 2019 were $91,647.86. The taxes have been paid on time every year by the previous owner, Jackson Commons, LLC. It will interesting to see what the taxes are next year. There is no sign of Ms. Sanders or Seiferth borrowing money to make the purchase.
I’m shocked —SHOCKED— that an individual who “bought” Metrocenter is anything other than a serious, reputable entrepreneur.
If you google the address listed in the Natchez Democrat, how is an individual living in a $100k house affording to shell out $10 million for investment in a mall?!? Who is backing her?
Thanks @2:33pm - I lol’d
I always say get in on the ground floor! What could go wrong? Signed, Timber Baron and President of Richer Hicks HOA.

Yes, but the GARDEN GNOMES displayed atop that stylish waist-high brick wall, ought to be worth SEVERAL Dollars.
maybe she won Mississippi's new lottery and is going to spend all her money on the metro?
This lady falls right in with the hustler's code:
Hustler's Code Article 5: Do not tell a small lie (If it's worth a lie, it's worth a big lie). The penalty is the same.
Hustler's Code Article 2: Claim partnership with God.
More to Come.
What is it with Butler Snow and their affiliation with scam artists these days? Geez, this is the second connection to some get rich quick scheme in as many years. Please, one of the partners, prove me otherwise.
Who did everybody expect to invest in a vacant mall in beautiful and prosperous Jackson, Ms ? Warren Buffett ? Bwahahahahahahaha
She could raise a million or two, promise above-average returns, pay those returns from money collected from new investors, then flee.
That's a pretty good business model, isn't it? I mean...it worked in the timber industry, didn't it?
If the City of Jackson gets in bed with this felon in any way, there will be lawsuits coming out of the municipal wazoo, not to mention the bad press our radical Mayor will have to endure.
3:18 - what's the rest of the Code? Articles 2 and 5 are spot on.
It will be interesting to see if Chokwe or Kenny (where does he buy his suits - Omar the Tentmaker?) has had any conversations with her about getting support from the Shitty ... I mean CITY of Jackson.
This is the same Judge who ruled in favor of David Archie, and we all know he
doesn’t live in District 2!
Well, I predict success. She is obviously a magician since she plans to take it back to the splendor of the '80's while updating it?
Well, this explains why she sounds like a cross between a street hustler and an escapee from Whitfield.
How can I contact her? I would like to buy some timber futures. She seems very nice, sincere, and honest.
I bet she bought it for less than a million then fleeced an investor into putting in two million and sold it from her shell company to the new company. Can anyone verify that it was one transaction and not the two I allege as probable? Million in the pocket and some sap left with a mall?
These craptastic real estate investors out here, always trying to fleece someone. They do not have what it takes to actually do it.
WLBT reported this two hours after JJ nd didn't mention that JJ posted the information first. As a relatively new follower of this blog, is that part for the course for the Metro area media?
Take a look at Dudley Guice too. He's popular in the legal arena as well. Sr. was former Tax Assessor and Supervisor. Jr. in NFL?
Who cares? Dumpster fires think Metrocenter is a bust. Like she can ruin Metrocenter? Gees.
4:42 She hasn’t conveyed it. Yet.
Will she bring back The Widow Watson's and Orange Julius ?
There is a hook in the deal. Question izzz WHOSE?
No sane person would put money in Metrocenter. It is in the middle of a combat zone and it cannot be saved! End of discussion.
Burn it down for the insurance money.
Dollars to doughnuts this deal is owner financed. They’ll have it back soon.
Does anyone remember when Magic Johnson and his investment group considered revitalization of the Metro Center? With $330 million and institutional funds, partial occupancy and a savvy business squad, they said, “Nope”. I wonder how Ms. Sanders plans to do what she proposes. If this is a financial scam, she’s judgment proof (asset is upside down). I doubt she’s the face of a group of investors because felons and shady people look for squeaky clean people to be the face of the group. But, hey, I’ve never had a sandwich from Crust and who knows, the food court may be more crowded than a Chik-fil-A on soccer Saturday! So, drop your kids off at the 10,000 square foot daycare, get in line and jump on the trampoline, come out watch the escalator run, browse around Payless Shoes and when you get your sandwich, go home to your studio apartment!
Hahahaha
She said she had talked with Payless Shoes and they were anxious to open a store in Metrocenter. I don't think so.
"Payless ShoeSource confirmed Friday that it will close its 2,100 stores in the U.S. and Puerto Rico and start liquidation sales Sunday. The company is also shuttering its e-commerce operations. The closings mark the biggest by a single chain this year and nearly doubles the number of retail stores set to close in 2019.Feb 15, 2019"
When I saw this story yesterday my immediate reaction was it's a scam; this before I saw who was behind it. Look for bucketloads of Federal $$$$ to be poured into this boondoggle all in the name of saving Jackson!
Relocate the zoo there, or remodel it as a prison to replace Hinds county jail or Parchman.
@ 5:51 "Will she bring back The Widow Watson's and Orange Julius?" Your question wins this post....Yes!!
She had bogus written all over ass in that video.
Typical hustler.
I've been dreaming of hundreds of ideas for this dead mall for a decade and I've been inspired to contact her with my ideas.
We are going to have go-carts indoors for the kids?
So, when she gonna get it open?
2:05 posted a link to the Illinois Secretary of State order. It states "she uses other people's money." She's a pro at working this scam. This ain't her first rodeo.
The name Butler-Snow seems to pop up on a monthly basis, connected to scam after scam and bogus venture after venture. The last to join hands with them was the Madison County Board of Supervisors.
I once read on the internet that lawyers are honest people.
Well, 10mil for purchase. What about 100mil more for the darn infrastructure. You cant even drive around the place or get through the lots. And does she own the part where the city pays 40grand a month for.
So what part does 10mil get her? What about Sears and Mcraes? Look back at the original owners of mall, those daddy's boys were slick as shit also.
If razed would it be big enough for an airport. Can we get Rudy to do a study?
how about a Millsaps powerpoint on viability? guarantee it’s a GO!
He ask her about small business that could not afford rent and she turns around and said we will put them in this area? What are the odds that they would be standing right next to the area when he asked that question? Totally shooting from the hip. I usually applaud Jackson investment but I can’t see this one.
Turn it into an indoor zoo. The critters would be nice and cozy. Win/win.
Very sad that so many people are so naive and they use their faith to justify and excuse her previous behavior.
Predictably, this has become all about racism and sexism. The WLBT Facebook page is overrun with comments like,
"they don't want West Jackson to recover",
"I can’t believe WLBT would stoop this low to discount someone who has done their time and paid their dues for the crime they did 8 years ago",
"It shouldn't matter did she do any Fraudulent against her new investment? Stop trying to tear down this woman Character."
They're looking at her as a savior right now, but once the whole charade collapses, they'll turn on her.
@12:07- You'd think they would turn on her, but they'll likely still be screaming racism. (They are only after her 'cause she's black, etc., etc.) I was initially shocked by the blind faith the people commenting on WLBT are putting into this stranger; but, realistically, they are doing it simply because of the color of her skin and not because of her reputation or history, or even their true lack of understanding of economic development. The commenters are chiming in about having a place to shop and eat. Asking for basketball courts and ice rinks, etc. Essentially, they are begging this woman to turn the facility into a haven for delinquents to accumulate and overrun. The loitering is what KILLED the mall in the first place... well, that plus another mall in what was a safer part of town and the slow, painful death of brick and mortar storefronts. Regardless, recreational facilities that will serve as daycares for those up to age 18, will cause this venue to fail, yet again, in an expeditious fashion.
I honestly don't see any LEGITIMATE big-name store or restaurant sitting at the table with this lady. These corporations have legal departments. The combination of her history with Jackson's crime and the condition of area immediately surrounding mall... I just don't see it. Her lack of knowledge about the retail outlets she chose to spout off (Payless?!?) shows her lack of legitimate planning and foresight. Her own video can/will be used against her in her search for legitimate tenants!!!
Many have stated the transaction isn't complete. It makes me wonder if it will actually close. I hope her investors were already aware of her past. If they weren't, are they still investing or have they pulled their funds? Would that action affect the transaction? So many questions...
One thing I noticed was that Baby Chock* did not appear on camera with Ms. Sanders. One wonders why the Honorable Mayor did not see fit to take this opportunity and make some high sounding pronouncement that the sale of Metrocenter is an indication that his plans to revitalize South and West Jackson and the Highway 80 Corridor, are coming to fruition? If Baby Chock could not be persuaded to get on board with this project then something must be really wrong.
*P.S. You all do know that the "Baby" Chock reference is to Baby "Doc" Duvalier, right?
12:07 Who is "they" that you refer to? Have you ever thought that when it comes to social media comment, the person(s) in question can support themselves and create their own groundswell of support. You never knkow who is actually making comment.
After all this hubbub, two thoughts:
News media got punked.
This woman has brass cojones.
Get a copy of the Deed along with the mortgage that should be recorded right next to it. That will reveal more of the truth than all the bloviating on this site.
I had fogots about one scam, wonder if its a version of this.
Tenants gets landlord to pay for renovations as part of a lease. Tenant steals said improvement money and defaults on lease. As in never doing anything of substance.

If she brought back the ORIGINAL Widow Watson's, then the mall might be economically viable. That sort of thing is about all anybody's buying in South Jackson, these days (apart from skankynails, wigs, and drugs). And truly, if Mississippi's Legislature can create or condone zones where casinos are legal, then why not REDLIGHT DISTRICTS?
On her video...look at her scarf. It STILL has the RFID unit attached. The store removes them AFTER u PAY for the item!!!!????
The formation documents for Ashley Sanders & Seiferth Holdings, LLC list a company email address of possessyourland@aol.com
She must be part of the FREE THE LAND crowd down at city hall. Where's Baby Chok? He normally loves this kind of stuff.

https://www.clarionledger.com/story/news/local/2020/01/27/economic-development-projects-metro-jackson-ms-worth-millions/4422059002/
Less than 5% of that development is happening in Jackson.
Of course, MetroCenter is about to undergo a transformation, thereby including Jackson in these great economic times. LOLOL.
Too bad all of these angry messenger shooters weren't spending their money (however little the amount) at Metrocenter in the first place. Yup, all of Jackson's problems are the fault of someone else ... anyone else ... but especially racists.
So not only do you people hate the fact that we are finally getting something back , that you make it about politics. I’m so SICK OF YOU RACISTS BIGOTED PEOPLE having all the power. Mr. Ramsey. You’re a POS , and I hope you never have to struggle because when you’re watching your city die & all white people can do is laugh at us. We have children to raise. We don’t want them to see hurt and struggle everywhere. Stop making funny of the less fortunate and do something about it. You mad a woman bought this place ? Because you men can’t even do the news right. YOURE A POS AND I HOPE YOU ONE DAY LEARN FROM YOU BIGOTED WAYS.

The wording of that headline made me think they were talking about 6 projects which each were worth 700 million. But googling the headline (I don't click on Clarion Ledger) was enough to reveal that this was the TOTAL. Madison's City Center project is being counted (at a strangely-small hundred million). Maybe it's because we've been gone from there for a decade, but to me, "Big Bucks" START at a billion - per project.
700 million, TOTAL, for what are presumably the metro's six biggest projects, is not a figure to brag about.
10:23, not bragging. Just citing the C/L story.
If you visit Dallas or Frisco, Texas $700M is a drop in the bucket. There are a dozen buildings going up in Frisco right now that are bigger than the biggest buildings in Jackson.
My point was simply that no one in their right mind wants to invest big bucks in Jackson right now.
According to Dodge Data and Statistics:
Total construction in Dallas Fort Worth should break last years record of Just over $36 billion by $5 billion
Perhaps she has worked out a deal to move the Jackson Zoonindiors and relocate it to the Meteo center???
Her proposed GRAND opening of April 1 has come and gone! Anyone have an update?
