JPD arrested Jushun "Red" Paige in the Chelsie Kirschten murder case and charged him with accessory after the fact to murder. The 24 year-old woman was shot to death on Fortification Street on August 17, 2017. Police also arrested and charged Nicholas Coats and Lidarius Dixon with Capital Murder. None of the suspects have been indicted for any charges related to her murder. Paige is currently on probation for carjacking.
JJ obtained the police report through a public records request. The report states:
Nicholas Coats advised that Red and Twin got into the Jeep and drove down Congress and saw the white Pontiac G6 GT. Mr. Coats advised Twin jumped out of the vehicle with a silver revolver and discharged the weapon when he approached the driver's side window. On August 25, 2017 Detective Corry Jenkins received a tip that Nicholas Coats was involved in the murder along with Twin and Red. Twin was identified as Lidarious Dixon and Red as Jushun Paige.Police arrested Paige on October 24. The arrest was not reported in the media. County Court Judge Bill Skinner denied bond for Paige at a November 13 preliminary hearing and bound him over to the grand jury. He has not yet been indicted in the case. Attorney Rhonda Cooper represents Paige.
None of the suspects have been indicted. Coats was released on January 10. Judge Skinner denied bond to Coats in October but stated in the order that he was to be released without paying a bond if he was not indicted by January 2, 2018.
Paige filed a motion to set bond today in Hinds County Court. The motion states that a JPD officer said that Hinds County had a hold on Paige at the preliminary hearing. Paige claims there was no such hold and that he should have been allowed to post bond. The motion also states that a prosecutor said that Paige would be indicted by January 8, 2018.
Paige argues that since Coats was released without posting a bond even though he is charged with murder, Paige should be released since he is charged with a lesser crime. He also states that he was a "crew leader" at Kentucky Fried Chicken and was employed for several months.
The motions, bond order, and police report are posted below. However, Paige was released from prison just a month before the murder after he served a few years for carjacking.
Jushun Paige was part of the gang that went on a horrific crime spree in January 2015. They went on a rampage of robbery and carjacking throughout the Jackson area until they were caught. Three members of the gang were convicted of murdering Carolyn Temple. Paige was not implicated in her murder but was arrested for being involved in one of the carjackings. The police report states:
On January 12, 2015 at approximately 1313 hours Officer Lorenza Sanders IBM 2249 responded to 1415 Maria Drive in reference to an Armed Carjacking. Upon arrival Officer Sanders came in contact with the complainant who stated his daughter informed him that her 2004 Ford Explorer was making a loud noise. The complainant stated he went to test drive the vehicle and while at the stop sign five black males jumped out in front of the vehicle with automatic handguns. The complainant stated he jumped out of the vehicle and ran to 1504 Maria Drive for help. The complainant stated the black male subject was wearing gray sweats.A grand jury indicted him for armed carjacking since he allegedly used a gun to carjack the victim. He pleaded guilty to simple carjacking in March 2016. Circuit Judge Tomie Green sentenced him to serve 10 years in prison but suspended 7 years of the sentence and gave him credit for time served in the Raymond Detention Center. He entered MDOC custody on March 28, 2016 and was released on July 17, 2017 under the Earned Supervised Release program, one month before the Chelsie's murder. He is serving a probation term of three years.
Kingfish note: You read the headline correctly. Paige was arrested after Dixon and Coats. Since he was arrested as an accessory, he escaped media attention.

Metro media thieves rip off your research in 3 ... 2 ... 1.
Oh look. Judge Greene went soft and now a girl dead. I'm shocked.
What good will it do to arrest them? One of Jackson's finest will let them all out of jail.
The first thing that should have happened is he should be revoked for the 7 years suspended in the carjacking. Period. Where are you on that Judge Green.? Forget bond for this violent thug. How can that attorney say in a document he does not pose a risk to society. How many violent crimes must you participate in before you are labeled what you are- A Danger to the rest of us. Saw TTG is runnIng again. Here is her chance to change this narrative and look out for her county instead of these criminals. Revoke his butt instead of giving a rat’s ass about this carjacker’s constitutionall rights. .
During discussions that are very serious in nature, I get tired of the chirping goonies who are only concerned with other media outlets 'ripping off Kingfish's journalism'.
Goonie Chirpers in 3..2..1..
Judge Greene has an enormous amount of blood on her hands apart from this one murder. I don't know how she can sleep at night. She's a complete idiot and always has been. At least the 25 years that I have known her anyway
She can sleep at night because she is a complete idiot.
Feel bigger 11:49?
Although never having a Church to call his home, Jushun was an esteemed graduate of Popeyes Spice University, with a minor in Biscuitry. Ultimately, not being able to identify the last 4 ingredients of my 11 secret herbs and spices drove Jushun to a life of crime. Unfortunately, he won't find them there either. We at Kentuckys Frieds Chickens are committed to our employees, and we sincerely hope that Jushun can turn his life around a mop for several years in a caring environment before being finally certified as extra crispy.
My niece was murderded in cold blood in Jackson Mississippi in August 2017
Unbelievably, the "justice" system is completely failing not just my family...but the whole of the community.....letting cold blooded killers walk free. One of the killers just waltzed out of prison a few weeks ago...we learned about it after he and his friends were boasting about it on Facebook.
Jackson Mississippi is a lawless warzone where murderers walk free.
How does anyone in the community let any of the elected officials continue with this conduct?
I want to see The Press do their job and prosecute the system....because the system is failing!
MDOC and prosecutors generally don't try to revoke probation on a felony arrest but usually wait for an indictment before proceeding.
The girl was shot once . By one person and one person only . The person who pulled the trigger should be charged for murder and not released . Everyone else should indeed be charged as an assessory and given the time as such . But being held without Bond and no indictment on a charge that someone has already confessed to is not right at all . The justice system should put more of their time into their cases than they do . They feel every case is an open and shut case and that's not the case .
