Ice-skating coming to Jackson Friday

The city of Jackson issued the following press release.

Good job to the city for pulling this one off.  Thanks goes to Ward 6 Councilman Aaron Banks, whose brainchild this project is.

Great for Jackson.

They have ice skating at the Braves stadium too. Maybe we could start a hockey league. I always like to watch a good hockey fight!

From Buffalo NY... I live in Jackson and I can't figure our why people are so entertained by ice skating down here... maybe it's because I spent at of weekends playing hockey and it just seems so normal to me.

I’m from Jackson, and practically everyone I know loves to ice skate because 8:32 played hockey most weekends.

It’s all to get to prescribe opioids.

Think.

Ice skate? Broken ankle/neck.

Hospital/doctor(Porsche) charges and.......

Opiods.

It’s a conspiracy

Oh. My. God.

Hell has frozen over. They got something done to benefit the citizens of the city. Yay.

Cash money only and The City of Jackson? The opportunities are endless for what could happen.

Currently there is a ice rink in Pearl for the holidays. We are playing hockey on Sundays. The rink in Jackson will not be actual ice - its synthetic ice.

Kudos to Jackson for pullng this off. Hopefully a win-win. Wonder what that synthetic ice is like? Won't be dependent on the weather like the former Madison facility, which is a plus in many ways, but I think it would feel odd to be skating in 70+ degree weather. Whatever. Just hope this works and is a positive community event. I was a little (only a little) surprised that the former commercial ice rink on Lakeland couldn't make a go of it. How long has that been though, 20 years or so? Seems like our daughter was a teen then, so probably. Before that, does anyone else remember when we had ice skating in the coliseum in the summer? No, I'm not talking about when we briefly had that hockey team not too many years ago. This was in the 1960's. It got shut down for the same reason the public swimming pools were closed, unfortunately.

the ice skating rink that was at "the Park" on lakeland near the River closed about 9-10 years ago. It closed a a year or two after I moved here and I've only been here 11 years.

Cool to see it happen. The outdoor ice skating rink in Madison was better than the one in Pearl because it was outdoors ... but unfortunately the weather won't support it. Ice skating is ice skating, regardless of the type of ice.

I remember a few years ago Pearl had a synthetic ice rink at their annual "Jingle Bell Market" It was not too popular. Hopefully this works out for Jackson though..

Some people apparently can't stand to hear good news or have to ruin it for everyone else.

Anonymous said...

Sounds like this administration is trying hard to provide family-friendly entertainment in Jackson that can be enjoyed by all. Haters gonna hate.

Anonymous said...

Sounds like kingfish is in denial of the truth. Jackson residents can and will ruin everything. The ice rink won't make it more than a few months before it gets shut down because of crime and frivolous lawsuits. The only perk to this is for that short amount of time, it will help keep them in Jackson.

Kingfish said...

Such ignorance and racism. The rink is only open for ten days. Haven't heard of a crime problem with events at Smith-Wills or held downtown. None happen when there is the symphony, Broadway, opera, or other such events at Thalia Mara or the Coliseum.

But if it's Jackson, it has to be black and bad, right?

That last sentence was written in sarcasm.

Well... 11:26,
I took my daughter and most of her class at FPDS to ice skate in skankin rankin... most all of the class and myself live in Jackson... I call it skankin Rankin bc I own several rental houses there and it's not an ideal location for families

Anonymous said...

Yes, 12:43, it must be nice that you can afford to live in a more affluent part of Jackistan and that you can afford to send your child to FPDS... I assume that she will follow the appropriate steps of the rest of your "elite" class and attend Prep or JA before heading off to be a KD at Ole Miss? I sure hate that the public school system in Jackson isn't "suitable" for your child. Nice...

I'm sorry you feel that "Stankin Rankin" isn't suitable for families, but you're completely ok with those living in the hoods of south and west jackson, and (from your statement above) believe that they are in a more suitable area. Thank you for paying property taxes in Rankin County as well as sales tax. Our mayors tend to use those funds in an acceptable fashion, you know, like making necessary infrastructure updates before roads and water lines completely disintegrate. Unfortunately your leaders in the "more suitable" Jackson, can't be bothered to do the same.

So, Mr. Anonymous from NE Jackson, I encourage you to keep your head down and always look straight ahead, because your Jackson PD is considerably less suitable than my Hog-Head Undersheriff and LEO's in "Stankin Rankin".

Oh, 1:37, even us JPS black people attend Ole Miss. I didn't know it was only for white Rankin County students. We have every race of people on Ole Miss campus, and we all get along just fine without your petty input. And by the way, the infrastructure in Jackson was ignored any destroyed long before any African American mayor was ever elected. Get yourself educated and informed, you red-neck racist pig. People like you makes Mississippi look bad. Please move to another state.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
