The Justice Department will join the fight against crime in Jackson. U.S. Attorney Mike Hurst issued the following statement today as he was surrounded by numerous community and law enforcement officials at the federal courthouse in Jackson today.

Didn't see the mayor in that picture. Why not?
Bring it on.
Translation?
Felons in possession of a firearm to be enforced in federal court.
This might work.
Hopefully they will actually focus on serious violent crime, not drug offenses.
Project Reject!
They better watch out. Kennuff ain't gonna like all the interlopers coming into Jacktown and arresting his constituents. Any minute now he'll have his mug in front of cameras, telling all his peoples to throw rocks at these outsiders. I wonder how the Feds will react to that.
JOIN implies there is already someone fighting crime in Jackson. I don't think so.
A few years back Homeland took over the job from Jackson cops.
Usually they only caught the people leaving bars.
It was a money maker until people realized that if they had time to spend a night in jail they would be ROR so more people could be arrested.
Last thing we need is the feds sticking their nose in our business. We need resources for our existing city/county law enforcement agencies, not some outside entity with no community knowledge or understanding to do the job for them. Give us the financial support and let Lumumba and LEOs execute.
In my humble opinion, the racist Jeff Session's Justice Department has no business trying to further divide our community with their questionable motives and likely questionable enforcement tactics.
It's proactive and it's an honest effort to address the crime in the area.
Only a fool will find something wrong with this.
This is a good deal for Jackson. Lately there has been alot of attention placed on Jackson and I think the attention will pay off and move the city into the right direction.
Let Lumumba execute? ROFLMAO Keep drinking that kool-aid.
I live in NE Jackson and I support this.
I'm sure Mayor Lumumba and Hinds DA RSS are in the picture, they are just behind the placard on the easel in the larger picture in the downloadable document, right?
Tyrion, you have so much faith Lumumba will fix Jackson. I really hope you're right but I don't share your optimism. Also, why does everyone on your side always believe that others don't have the best interests of Jackson at heart. People like you and Ken Stokes have such a siege mentality and you see racist motives in everyone not of your mindset.
Louis LeFleur, maybe Lumumba and RSS see right through this publicity stunt by Mike Hurst and refuse to play along.
Yeah let's just keep Jackson going in the same direction. I mean what they have been doing is working great...right? Its been good for business, crime. Just keep all the white people out and it will all be fine.........See how stupid that sounds
In theory, at least, "Eject" does not mean moving criminals out of Jackson, and into surrounding communities. It supposedly means those criminals will either do time in prison, or be "rehabilitated".
I hope that's the case. As it is, Jackson's chief value to the state, is as a place for warehousing undesirables. Maybe the offshore and New York interests who've been buying downtown properties, want to move the criminals out of town, in order to make their ill-considered purchases valuable. I can see the theory: buy property in the nearly-deserted city center, then export the criminals to the suburbs (thereby creating a reverse exodus, of the middle classes, from the suburbs, back to the city). The reverse exodus will, theoretically, enhance the value of properties inside the city....theoretically.
That's fine, on paper, particularly if you're sitting in Tel Aviv or Great Neck, brainstorming on how to give value to the worthless Downtown Jackson office buildings you got, at pennies-on-the-Dollar. But the reality is that the destruction of Madison and Rankin counties, would only result in tens of thousands MORE middle class Mississippians fleeing Mississippi (and, often, the South), FOREVER.
For many of us, and certainly for our kids, it's not much harder to move from Madison, Mississippi to Lincoln, Nebraska, than it is to move from Madison, back to Leftover/Eastover/Belhaven (or, from a two-acre mini-estate in Madison County, to a "chic Downtown loft" - like that's gonna happen).
Once those moving vans are loaded, why not point them in the direction of someplace better than anyplace in Mississippi? That thought, unfortunately, has popped into the heads of many of our former friends, neighbors, and relatives, when they'd had enough of crime in Jackson. "They GONE!" And they're not comin' back. Try stampeding people from Madison and Brandon, and the stampede will NOT be headed back into the city. The stampede will follow all the other stampedes - out of state - as far from Mississippi as resources, career-killing regional accents, and sub-par Mississippi educations will allow people to go - away from Mississippi's dismal demographics.
I'd like to know more about this "Eject" business.
Justice For Whomever, you've gotten to the point that I honestly cannot tell if you believe what you're typing or if you're trolling us all by playing the role of the stereotypical black, race-agitating Jacksonian. Please advise.
Just For Tryin': Let's be honest, the "feds" are not some "outside entity" and already have a significant local law enforcement presence in Jackson working closely with JPD and HCSO. They are very familiar with the "community" and revolving door approach to justice...
I’m convinced that “Justice for Tyrion” is actually a screen name used by Kenneth Stokes to post on this blog.
Welcome to any and all who will help clean up Jackson. Any deterrent to crime is a good thing. Crime is down overall in Jackson, but we still have these people kicking in doors and causing fear. They need to be cleaned out of town so we can all flourish and grow.
Good timing!! Trump will b here soon!
The feds did this in Clarksdale years ago. It really helped for a while. Now a lot of the folks have been released and moved back to there.
The best thing Jackson could do to lower crime is to lock up most of the elected officials in Jackson. Crime is growing because it is encouraged. Get rid of those who encourage crime and the crime rate will drop.
I've been very familiar with Clarksdale for at least fifty years. Tell me when this 'helped for a while' took place. As with every other Delta town that has fallen prey to democrat leadership and an abundance of lethargic malcontents, Clarksdale has continued its downhill slide for most of those fifty years. Once you get a majority on a city council and a minority mayor (or even a liberal white mayor) the game is over. And no amount of federal involvement is going to make a damned bit of difference.
Hello All,
The Feds have been working theses Federal Programs for years in Jackson with JPD. These collaborations go back to the '90's and we see what has come of them thus far. Hurst is the new sheriff for the Southern District and he's trying to make a name for himself, and what better way to do that than to reach out to the black community and try to convince them that he's their savior. Unless/ until he does it for the right reasons, he will utterly fail. Nobody is fooled...
That is all...
AMEN 10:39!!!!!
They will never ever stop the decline !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry folks. Bull Conner and Alan Thompson among many other well esteemed "law and order" types are no longer available.

Here is an article about Project Safe Neighborhood Clarksdale. It took a bunch of really dangerous people off the streets of Clarksdale.
"U.S. Attorney Hurst described the project as a multi-disciplinary, holistic approach that combines law enforcement arrests and prosecutions of violent criminals with prevention efforts, rehabilitation and reentry, educational initiatives, and improved communication"
Well, were I a violent criminal in Jackson, I wouldn't be shaking in my basketball footwear upon learning of this your-government-at-work project. Unless and until Hurst has some capacity to change DNA, he's just going to be ejecting Jackson's finest in the prison revolving door from which they'll be ejected right back into living too near you and me.
Next stop, federal pens are full up so we're going to need us some bigger prisons.
"Here is an article about Project Safe Neighborhood Clarksdale. It took a bunch of really dangerous people off the streets of Clarksdale."
Take a look at any newspaper reporting crimes in Clarksdale. Those reports resemble the same news as what we see in the Jacktown paper every morning and hear on the WLBT news every day.
"Project Safe Neighborhood" is bullshit and you know it. It's about as relevant as Bennie's 'Jobs for District 2' campaign.
Hmmmm.....this is kinda sad. Hurst appears to be grandstanding from the get go to garner votes. One would think he would be going after all kinds of crime with a vengeance, and not just Jackson....unless he intends to also go after the government corruption in Jackson as "violent" crime which is so desperately needed. Sin is sin right Mike?
