Rankin-Madison District Attorney Michael Guest issued the following press release.
Pearl Man Receives Life plus 30 Year Sentence after Kidnapping and Attempting to Kill his Wife
Madison and Rankin Counties’ District Attorney Michael Guest announced today that Richard Lamar Green was sentenced this week to serve life in prison plus 30 years after a jury found him guilty of kidnapping and attempting to murder his wife following his trial in March.

It was determined that the victim’s husband, Richard Green, had fled the area in a silver GMC Envoy and had taken their 4 year old child with him. Pearl Police contacted the Mississippi Highway Patrol and an Amber Alert was issued for the missing child.
A truck driver, who had received the alert, contacted law enforcement to report that he had seen the defendant’s vehicle and the child at a truck stop in Bogue Chitto. The caller was able to alert law enforcement that Green was traveling toward Louisiana.
The Highway Patrol then notified the Pike County Sheriff’s Department who was able to stop and apprehend Green before he crossed into Louisiana. The child was found in the back of the vehicle and was unharmed.
Green was transported to Rankin County and was interviewed by investigators of the Pearl Police Department. Green admitted to law enforcement that he and his wife had gotten into an argument at their home. He then told officers that he went outside and retrieved a machete from his vehicle and then reentered the home where he forced his wife to the family room and struck her numerous times with the machete.
Guest stated, “Green is a violent and abusive individual who viciously attacked his wife in the presence of their 4 year old child. Because of the combined efforts of the Pearl Police Department, Mississippi Department of Public Safety, the Pike County Sheriff’s Department and the Brookhaven Police Department, Green will now spend the remainder of his life behind bars.”
Guest added, “Richard Green was taken into custody and a 4 year old child was returned home safely because a citizen responded to an Amber Alert issued in this case. The Amber Alert system is an invaluable tool that allows law enforcement to quickly push information out to the public in cases where children are at risk. I encourage everyone that receives an Amber Alert to be on the lookout for the vehicle or persons listed in the alert and to report anything they feel would be helpful to law enforcement.”
Guest concluded, “Cathy Green has used this tragic event in her life to educate and help others who may be involved in violent domestic relationships. Since her attack she has volunteered her time in domestic violence shelters and crisis centers and has spoken to numerous groups sharing the story of her life. Cathy has also been awarded the Image of Resilience Award by the Mississippi Coalition against Domestic Violence.”
Green has numerous misdemeanor convictions of Domestic Assault or Domestic Violence. Court records show Green was previously been convicted of Domestic Battery in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1996. Green was also been convicted of Domestic Assault in Biloxi in 2002 and convicted of Domestic Assault in Harrison County in 2005.

Rankin County is lost.
Move to Jackson, where people can leave their kids in a running car at midnight and they won't get kidnapped 99% of the time.
Why on God's green earth would anyone want to download the Madison/Rankin District Attorney's app?
God bless her. I hope she has recovered emotionally and physically, and thankful that her child was not harmed.
Who just happens to have a machete in their car?? He is obviously a sick and dangerous man who does not need to be released to harm others.
I have a machete in my car but, I use it to cut down tall underbrush when doing site walks for projects.
Amber Alerts save lives. What a senseless tragedy, yet another in a growing, disturbing list of horrific events from the past few weeks in Mississippi. Who are we?!
I saw nothing about him 'kidnapping' his wife.
