Shooting victim Jason Brent continues to recover at UMMC although the road is long, painful, and tough. He was shot during a robbery at Battery Sales & Service on West Fortification Street. His family posted these updates on their public Facebook pages:
Jason has had a good day today! His pain isn't as bad so that's great! Physical therapy came around and got him up to sit in a chair for about an hour! He did great but got tired fast! Thank you all for your continued prayers!! (June 18)
Just visited with Jason Brent. His voice is stronger today. He is dealing with pain, nausea, and the after effects of being under anesthesia and in the ICU for 10 days. Please pray that Jason will feel God's arms around him giving him peace and comfort during this time. Pray for complete healing. Thank you for the prayers!! (June 16)
Today has been a good day- Jason got off the ventilator and has done great all day! He's been in more pain since he is totally awake now. When I left tonight at 9:00 he was a little frustrated and said he had a long day and was tired. Please pray for determination for him, that he doesn't get discouraged because he has done so well, pray for comfort because he can't get comfortable in that bed right now, pray for peace that he can rest tonight, pray for strength in the coming days! Thank you all so much for the prayers and thoughts that have already been said. Jason is definitely a miracle (June 15)
They placed a chest tube on the left side to relieve fluid from the chest cavity. 800 cc came out immediately. Hope it will help him to breathe better. Will let him rest this afternoon. Will try to take him off of ventilator tomorrow. Thank you for the gift!! Thank you for the prayers!!! (June 14)
Where we are this morning : Jason's chest tube is on the right side and his right lung looks great. When they took his chest X-ray this morning it looks like he has pulmonary effusion on the left side. They are going to do an ultrasound to get a better idea and maybe have to put in a small catheter. They are SLOWLY weaning the vent but if there is fluid around the left lung, then it will be a slower process. Otherwise, he's doing good and resting right now. Pray that whatever they find on the ultrasound is an easy fix and doesn't add to his pain. Pray for comfort and calmness for Jason as he gets a little panicked at times when he wakes up. Thank you all for everything this far. Can't believe we are on day 9 of this journey! Much love to you all (June 14)
Jason will have his 4th surgery sometime today. They will check his injuries and hopefully close his abdomen. After surgery, they plan to take him off of the sedation medicine and start weaning him off the ventilator. Please pray for Jason and the medical staff today. (June 12)
The family has set up a Gofundmepage for those who wish to help. The victim is an Army veteran. The sad part is judge green will probably free him. Everyone needs to strap. Better to be judged my 12 than carried by 6. Praying for you brother. #jacksonshithole
Thanks for updating us. This certainly was not a victim-less crime. Too bad we can never truly measure his and his family's pain and suffering and that they will probably never see a dime for this time; only be rewarded with his life. Hope the perp gets life without parole. I believe we saw a video of this cold blooded assault.
Judge Tomie will sentence Lorenzo to a couple months of anger management classes so this won't happen again.
