Judge Tomie Green's blessing turns into a curse

A thug turned loose by Hinds County Circuit Judge Tomie Green was arrested last month for carjacking in Jackson.  Judge Green suspended the prison sentences for Sentobia Paige's armed robbery and auto burglary convictions in November after he completed the RID program.  Paige was so upset that he missed his chance to party at Parchman that he allegedly carjacked some poor victim on February 17.

JJ reported on February 6:

A Hinds County grand jury indicted Sentobia Paige in June 2015 for breaking into a Ford 150 and stealing some goods.  Paige is 26 years old. The case was assigned to Judge Jeff Weill but somehow wound up over in Judge Green's court.   Judge Green sentenced him in July 2016 to serve seven years in prison but ordered him to participate in the RID program.  She re-sentenced him on November 17, 2016 to probation for three years and suspended the seven-year prison sentence.  She also ordered his immediate release.  She ordered the sentence to run concurrent with his sentence for his armed robbery conviction.

Armed robbery, readers ask? Yup.   The grand jury indicted Paige in May 2014 for using a gun to steal a cellphone from the victim in March.  This crime took place before the auto burglary crime.  Perhaps he should get credit for moving down from armed robbery to auto burglary.  It is so rare when these thugs downgrade their crimes.

Judge Green sentenced Paige to serve ten years for the armed robbery BUT suspended all ten years of the prison sentence since he completed the RID program.  She ordered his immediate release and placed him on probation for three years.  Rest of post.
The Mississippi Department of Corrections submitted an affidavit to the court yesterday that stated he was arrested by JPD for armed carjacking on February 11.  The affidavit is posted below.  The case is now apparently assigned to Judge Jeff Weill.

Kingfish note: Dear Judge Green: Are you going to write an apology in the form of a poem to the carjacking victim?

I live in Madison County but I wish the best for Jackson. While crime can happen anywhere, at least we punish the pers. The people of Jackson are they're own worst enemy. They continue to elect this "Judge". Its up to the people of Jackson to vote her out. If not, then the people get what they deserve.

I wish one of the local attorney's that are familiar with Judge Green, can speak on the logic behind her sentencing practices?

Dammit, someone needs to rein her in on this! This social justice "promise to behave" crap affects us all, not just the Jackson electorate that keeps putting her in. Whomever has responsibility over her judicial position needs to put her on a PIP and let her know that she's already got two strikes against her. One more of her blessings commits a felony, and she's working night court in Noxapater.

Serious question--

How can we organize and actually help elect a different judge?

before any more comments lamenting Judge Green, please be advised:

1. No, there is no way to remove her from the bench short of someone running against her and winning;

2. She is stubborn and limited in IQ, but she has a clear agenda to slap violent black offenders on the wrist;

3. The MSSCT has no backbone and will do nothing about her.

anybody you elect other than her from her district would be just as bad. she has had health problems in the past, so ......

I assume MSSCT is Mississippi Supreme Court? Exactly how do they do anything with her.

Can a citizen file suit against her for lax sentencing? Surely there is a more conscientious potential judge in her district.

Justice is blind and this blindness should also include color blind.

Frankly I am damned tired of the posts that suggest "Jackson people who elect her get what they deserve". If those posters have even a modicum of walking around sense they would understand WE ALL get this thug (and others) back on the streets. It's not as if they stay inside the city of Jackson and only steal from or beat or kill Jackson's citizens. We are ALL in danger.

The Mississippi Supreme Court has the last say on judge discipline and also reviews her cases when they are appealed, though the AG generally doesn't appeal when the state convicts.

No, a citizen cannot sue a judge because they disagree with a sentence or any other action they take. they have absolute immunity in such matters.

Does a know details in this RID program? Recidivism rate? Is the program designed for violent offenders as well as non violent?

When is she up for re-election next?

Miss. Constitution:

SECTION 53.
For reasonable cause, which shall not be sufficient ground of impeachment, the governor shall, on the joint address of two-thirds of each branch of the legislature, remove from office the judges of the Supreme and inferior courts; but the cause or causes of removal shall be spread on the journal, and the party charged be notified of the same, and have an opportunity to be heard by himself or counsel, or both, before the vote is finally taken and decided.

Judge Green is on the bench because the Miss. Legislature wants her to stay on the bench.

... Following up, impeachment is also an option (& would prevent her from running again).

P19. Clearly the constitution provides for the removal of judicial officers through proceedings which do not involve the court. Sections 50 and 53, Miss. Const. * * * Nothing in Section 53 or 177A, the two sections which specifically provide for the removal of judges, suggests that they are exclusive. Nor has it ever been suggested that judges are not amenable to removal by impeachment under Section 50.

In re Higginbotham, 716 So. 2d 631, 634-635 (Miss. 1998).

A lot of good points on this thread, but I would really like to know if her sentencing practices are about protesting the surrounding county's or she just too dang lenient period?

It's setting a bad precedent. Because we are not rehabilitating or detouring anyone from committing violent crime.

Now I rather her take this approach with low level drug offenders, but not habitual violent offenders.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
