Health Department approves all vaccination exemption requests

The Mississippi State Department of Health approved all requests for exemptions from mandatory vaccination laws in 2016.

MSDH told JJ that 103 requests for medical exemptions were submitted for the 2016-2017 school year.  Two applications were withdrawn by the submitting physicians.  Four were submitted without a stated medical exemption.  However, a MSDH spokeswoman said the department is working with the physicians to complete the application.  All completed applications were approved.

In other words, they will approve 100% of exemption requests that are endorsed by a licensed Mississippi physician. Sounds reasonable to me.

Somehow that does not make me feel safer from the diseases of others.

Sure to enrage the vaccine Nazis.

Sure to make the anti-vax anti-science nutjobs happy as pigs in slop.

Don't want to vaccinate? No problem. Just move to a remote area away from others.

CDC reported 1,242 cases of Mumps as of March 4.

Hmmm. We learned in the mumps thread that the government has paid over $3.6 billion in claims due to injury from shots.

Could it be because of the number of them that are required?

http://msdh.ms.gov/msdhsite/_static/resources/2030.pdf 0-18 months. When you look at the government data, you see the dtap is the one causing the greatest injury rate. This isn't hard to nail down, people.

Got to be honest... A few hundred in a state of 3m isn't that bad. While I'm sure there will always be folks against vaccinations (even in the face of scientific evidence to the contrary) this exemption by physician rule seems fair.

We're in much better shape thanks to our laws than other places.

If you haven't looked at the CDC topic on this...

7:36 am People can have adverse reactions to nearly ever medicine on the market, including antibiotics. Kids can have serious, life threatening allergic reactions to peanuts or even sunlight.
There were a few kids who reacted adversely to the polio shot and small pox shot but parents were smart enough to assume the risk.
That is why there is a government vaccine fund so you can care for a child that is adversely affected.
It has always been how many lives are saved vs how many adverse reactions can occur.
The odds your child will have an adverse reaction to a vaccine is small.
The odds your child will get mumps, measles, chicken pox, polio, whooping cough etc. if exposed is high.
Infectious diseases were the major cause of death in children from the time such statistics were first kept in the 1800s through to the mid 1900s. Now cancer is the leading cause of death.
One of my grandmothers gave birth to 12 children and only 8 reached adulthood , the other grandmother had 7 pregnancies and 3 died before adulthood. I had 10 friends who died from these childhood diseases ( 2 from polio and I was quarantined because of exposure for weeks and after one childhood disease for a month). Two of my male high school classmates were left sterile after mumps. Several of my high school classmates had horrible chicken pox scars on their faces. Several either were on crutches from polio ( those in wheelchair couldn't go to school). The diseases were eradicated by the time my children were born in the 1970s.
My grandparents and parents talked of the panic in communities when these diseases and the flu would come. Quarantines were enforced by the government through my childhood.
Spread out the vaccinations if you are afraid, but if your children survive but become scarred or damaged from these diseases, don't expect them to respect them to admire your decision.
Oh and do be aware that if you have more than one child, the first child will have less trouble with the disease, but that child will repeatedly expose their siblings so they will be far sicker and at greater risk.

In response to "Don't want to vaccinate? No problem. Just move to a remote area away from others.": Somewhere like Alabama or Tennessee that has medical and religious exemptions, or Arkansas and Louisiana that offers medical, religious, AND philosophical? MS is one of only 3 that only offers medical exemptions! 47 other states have more exemptions than MS!

Next it'll be fluoride in the drinking water. That stuff is nothing but rat poison you know.

The health department issues many temporary exemptions that they renew every year and count them as new. This may be better than it was but the process is still broken. A bureaucrat in Jackson, who has never seen my son, should not be the one determining whether or not he receives a medical exemption. People do not realize that this is NOT how the other states operate.

SInce most of the comments were about mumps, people should also know that the majority of those diagnosed with mumps were vaccinated. If you look up every state across the country that has had mumps outbreak, this is true. At Harvard, the 41 cases were ALL vaccinated. Why? Vaccine failure. Merck, the manufacturer of the MMR, is successfully being sued in court by two of its former scientists for falsifying the efficacy data on their mumps study. You could have 100% vaccination coverage with the MMR and this would still happen. More vaccinated is not the answer.

In response to "don't want to vaccinate, just move": Why is that the answer? I am assuming this person is an adult so I would ask him/her if they have had every vaccine that is listed on the children's schedule as well as the boosters for each. If not, roll up your sleeves and stop putting herd immunity on the backs of our children. These kids are surrounded by under vaccinated adults everywhere they go. We don't live in a bubble. Use some common sense here. There hasn't been herd immunity in decades because adults haven't received the HUGE numbers of vaccines these children are expected to get. Instead of telling others to move, roll up your sleeves and get those 20+ vaccines. You will be alright even though there has never been one safety study done on giving those at one time. Be Brave.

So while the MSDH is saying they grant all med exemptions that are requested, they are simultaneously bullying doctors into not writing medical exemptions.

Parents know what they're doing. Just ask the pediatricians who dare to request med exemptions for vaccine vulnerable kids. I know parents whose peds told them if they could get a commitment from MSDH not to shut them down for writing medical exemptions, they will write one for their child in need of one.

This is smoke and mirrors.

The CDC is a vaccine company with something like 56 vaccine patents and over $4 billion in vaccine sales annually. That is who our MSDH is listening to. In addition, our MSDH profits from vaccine administration. Conflicts of interest?

For all of you ragging parents about the mumps mini outbreaks you need to educate yourself on the percentage of kids that are getting mumps that are fully vaccinated. What you will find is what I found. The current mumps cases are almost 100% vaccinated kids.

The drug companies have a sweeeeet honey hole in their over-bloated corrupt vaccine program. Their products are both mandated and protected by the federal government from liability. You can't sue them for death or injury of a child. Since that law passed in 1986 our vaccine schedule has more than quadrupled. Get it? You would have to be dense not to.

I say we get kingfish to publish his vaccine record. ;) Let's see how many shots he needs to catch up to our little babies and contribute to herd immunity. Certainly he wouldn't mind.

@ 1:34, would you be willing to provide names of docs? Aren't docs overseen by the MSBOML not MSDOH? Also, wasn't the number something around 5 exemptions before the legislature proposed this compromise?

Yes, people. By all means, get your chemical injections! Protect the vaccinated from the unvaccinated!

Public school entry requires the Form 121 immunization or an official exemption from a physician. You can't just opt out and enroll in public school. At least not the schools who follow all MDE rules. So, kids in public schools should be safe from diseases. In my experience, only one child had an exemption and I worked for over 10 years in public school system.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
