Jackson Mayor John Horhn issued the following statement.
I want to take a moment to publicly thank Chief Administrative Officer Pieter Teeuwissen for his dedication and service to the City of Jackson and to my administration.
Over the past year, Pieter has been an essential part of our team. He stepped into the role of Chief Administrative Officer and immediately made his presence felt, serving as a steady voice for this administration at city council meetings and representing Jackson’s interests on the 1% Infrastructure Sales Tax Commission. As we’ve faced budget shortfalls, Pieter has been at the table, working through the hard conversations and helping chart a responsible path forward.
The loss of his law partner earlier this year was a profound one, and I have the deepest respect for Pieter’s honesty in recognizing that his circumstances have changed. His recent appointment as a trustee to the National Conference of Bar Examiners speaks to the caliber of professional he is, and I know he will carry that same level of dedication into that new chapter.
I wish Pieter nothing but the best, and I’m grateful for his service to our city.

Well, shit. That ain't good.
Damn. He was Jackson's best hope for competent leadership in this administration.
Mr. Teeuwissen has been through a lot over the last several years. Certainly wish him the best. Major blow the the mayor and the city a like. Maybe the stars will align at the right time for him to run and become the next mayor when Horne's term is over.
Wait a minute, say it ain’t so. I did not see that one in the tea leaves. I suppose no Brackney parachute for Pete?
He left because he was shoveling shit against the tide. The tide being a building full of incompetent and lazy bureaucrats.
If Horhn doesn't find someone of equal gravitas and integrity then the die is cast.
He was feeling the fatigue. As we all are.
Or maybe he wants the Hinds County District Attorney position.
