Obviously Mr Corder is a democrat. Most republicans I know take responsibility for their mistakes, KiOR, Senatobia, the port on the coast, the unnecessary wastewater plants built on the coast after Katrina, except of course the biggest turn coat republican in Mississippi history, Haley 'Pardon-a-Murderer" Barbour. BTW Mr Corder, the above mentioned is SPEND NOW and PAY MUCH MORE LATER! Prayer wont get us out of this mess, God doesn't help fools.

Even though corporations are people too, it's not welfare if our state money goes to a corporation.

The term "fiscally conservative public-private partnerships" is an oxymoron.

A fiscal conservative would not ask taxpayers to fund that which the private sector either [1] refused to fund, or [2] agreed to fund at interest rates commensurate with the true risk.

The first commenter above is real close. Corder is saying that the establishment Republicans are superior at being big spending, big government, big debt Democrats than the Democrats themselves. Practical governing oversight to ensure taxpayer confidence? ROFLMAO Get that? Republican cronyism is a better fiscally conservative cronyism!!

Unneeded wastewater treatment plants on the coast? Don't know that I agree with that one. That would be like saying building Highland Colony Parkway a decade ago, when nothing was out there - except for St. Andrew's School that you had to access off Old Agency - was 'unnecessary'. Same with Lakeland Drive in the 80's. Nothing much on the other side of the Pearl. Without the infrastructure, no development.

The wastewater treatment plants were designed to help move residential development north of the coast and away from the subsidized (yes, government subsidized) insurance rates on the beach.

The role of government, even good, small conservative government, is to provide the infrastructure for both residential and commercial interests. Some of the 'public-private' partnerships only involved the state putting in roads, water, sewer, rail, etc. Those deals IMO were fine. Same with building water/wastewater, roads, etc in the outlying areas of the coast.

Conservative means they piss away/misappropriate mostly federal money on subsidies for private development while the liberals tend to require the state to have some skin in the game. Republicans call it an unfunded mandate if the public funding is only 90% federal.

5:15 - in the civilized world developers pay for infrastructure costs. It was federal money for recovery from Katrina - not free subsidies for Traditions and other overpriced inland developments built by politically connected cronies.

If Mr. Corder's thought processes are as jumbled as his sentences, it should be no surprise that he's " clueless".

I am constantly amazed that people are dumbfounded when "real" Republicans like Haley, Trent, etc. turn out to be "pretend" Republicans. Those are real Republicans. This fantasy that some have created of this mythical Republican is comical.

5:15,One thing they forgot to do on the Coast when building all of these expensive treatment plants for future growth was to provide the infrastructure to get sewage to the plants. Some at present have zero customers and the current customers of the various cities are now paying more for this as a special assessment each month than for the sewer/water they actually use. Traditions is a great example of the connected Republican donating machine getting the taxpayers to pay for their improvements. After 10 years and millions in taxpayer dollars invested less than 80 families live there. Great success or total failure? How much has been invested and forgiven? You would and should be shocked. Another example is Joe Cloyd, Josh Gregory's partner, getting $12 million + of free money to build a CDBG work force housing age restricted water front rental project. Looks like any other midrise condo to most. The old saying has been changed and is now "Its not who you know but whose consultant you are".

Its not who you know but rather which Barbour ass you've been kissing.

6:21 - developers pay the cost of infrastructure for a particular development. But governments do pay for water/sewer lines to the development and treatment of that water/sewer. Same as with roadways - developers pay 'within' the development, but not 'to' the development. And government does have a responsibility to direct development toward areas or away from other areas.

The wastewater treatment plants are a proper function of government. Providing them in previously unserved areas as part of a growth policy is forward thinking governing, something that this state could use more of.

It has been nine years since Katrina, but only five or six since much of this infrastructure was in place. Flowood wasn't built in a day either but the government putting Highway 25 in the area certainly has been a good move.

7:24 That explains why the Madison County supervisors are building a "Park to Nowhere". Once the infrastructure TO the park is in place (courtesy of the suckers, er, taxpayers) then some developer buddy of the supes can cash in. Right now the taxpayers are paying for roads, electric lines, water and sewer lines, etc, to a vacant lot (that incidentally seems to not hold water - a pretty major flaw for a man-made lake at the center of a park).

7:24 What you are missing is the fact that the engineers from Jackson (forced upon the Coast by the Barbour administration) who decided where these treatment plants would go did so even though local politicians and engineers told them that in many cases locations selected where not in the most needed areas. The only forward thinking employed in this matter in my opinion was who owned the land where these facilities were built and who would benefit the most. Of course people with political ties to the Barbour Administration got maximum benefit. The rate payers in Harrison County are now paying for the operation and upkeep of these underused or unused facilities. When they pay their bill each month they would disagree with all of this "forward thinking of government" that was based on bogus growth projections that were put together to justify this just like the information used at the port, which is being constructed without a channel at the proper depth to allow the ships it is being built for to access the docks. Sewer treatment plants in the wrong location without the necessary trunk lines to get the sewage there and no money left to accomplish this is more of the same.
