More information will be posted later but here are the maps of a proposed expansion Hinds Community College President Clyde Muse presented to the Hinds County Board of Supervisors this morning.

When these expansions take place, they are " sold" as being at no cost to taxpayers.
That isn't exactly accurate. Even when construction costs are raised in other ways, eventually maintenance and staffing will be a part of the budget.
Also, at one point, Dr. Muse had a free house, food for free, ALL insurance paid, all vehicle costs paid, all utilities paid ,house and yard care and maintenance paid and earned $300000 a year in salary.
These decisions are made by the boards of trustees. The board members are appointed and members often serve for life. They have the power to raise local taxes, if memory serves, .7 mils. That may well have changed. At one point, the boards of trustees throughout the State were all white males.
The State Board for Junior and Community Colleges is not an oversight board . It is , by law , an advocacy board.
There is no real oversight at all as the Junior and Community College Foundation as well as the Presidents are a powerful political force.
It's too bad as MS could have more for less and community colleges can be key in economic development.
"The boards of trustees throughout the State were all white males"?? Take another look there 8:16P http://www.hindscc.edu/abouthinds/trustees.aspx
And I love how you use "at one point"... all of your statements are of the past. Unlike other college presidents, Muse doesn't live on campus in a "President's House."
And if you look at the pictures... other than the existing buildings and the Burn Patient Family Lodging the rest on their are FUTURE EXPANSION. Never said it was going to happen. Hinds is just showing what it could do with the property that the county has given them. Hinds Co taxpayers bought that property and Muse/Hinds just showing that they can be stewards with the taxpayers monies.
If you hate Hinds so much then "see ya at Holmes!!!"
Yes, I'm aware there was a push to "diversify" the boards of trustees.
Perhaps, you'll tell me how successful that has been and how long a service is now typical.
The house was getting old. Would you like to put a cost value on the perks and share Dr. Muse's salary since it's my tax money.
I hardly hate Hinds. I have no dog in either junior and community college or IHL fights.
I'm all for good stewardship IF it proves to be of value to the educational system, the State, the citizens and an efficient use of my tax dollars!
I am, however, long tired of both tax and profit revenues being badly spent!
PS 7:46 am Care to share the current millage rate increases the boards of supervisors can pass?
I've never known why that wasn't " taxation without representation". And, by the way, would you explain WHO has practical oversight of the Junior and Community colleges while you are at it?
In the past, it was functionally " nobody" ,but I'm sure you'll tell us how that has changed as well.
Would you tell us how many tax dollars go to the Pearl campus because I was given to understand that tax payer dollars would never be spent on that campus after wondering why we needed another campus so close to three existing campuses.
So, please, bring me up to date!
Some poor souls will never be brought "up to date" while living in the past.
