or is this report of his death greatly exaggerated?
Oh, and is Mississippi College a "university"?

He "had been dead" for the past 11 years. Evidently, he's feeling much better now.
Zombie Dean!
Amazing what retirement will do to you.
Mississippi College has referred to itself as a "Christian university" for quite some time.
College is general. University is more specifics.
You're a moron.
Saw him at the Nosef/Cole cage match on Monday. Looked pretty good for a dead guy.
Apparently Rosenblatt has been dead almost as long as has "journalism."
Dean of the Dead
She's probably not the eight law school dean, either. Eighth, maybe? Sometimes technology is not your friend. Spell check is fine, but there's nothing that can take the place of a good, old-fashioned proof read. Reporters are having to do more while getting paid less, and mistakes like this are becoming far too commonplace.

Uh, what? Other way around, you non-moron, you.
It's nice that they're letting a dead person stay on as a professor.
It's Jimmie Gates... what else do you expect from such a "premiere" reporter?
He seems nice.
don't know what he did to get the kinda comments above, i've always thought he was one of the last bright lights in the profession in this state, but then again...
all alumni of the lawschool got this email last december 3 from the dean; he is going to be full-time faculty and i can understand his excitement about it. anybody does something because they love it and then gets into management usually wants to get back, sooner or later. i know i did.

"Greetings: I appreciate the well wishes I have received from so many of you following the announcement that on August 10, 2014 I will make a transition from the office of the dean to become a full time faculty member. I look forward to my remaining months as the dean of MC Law and to the opportunities I will have as a faculty member to reach out to our graduates, assist with recruiting, and mentor students. I am most grateful to all for the support, assistance, and encouragement I have received over the last ten years and cherish the idea of being able to continue my work with MC Law in a new capacity. As I observe my garden wither under last week’s frost, it is obvious that there are seasons that pass and new seasons to come."

Click the article. Read the 4th paragraph (first full paragraph under the picture) that begins "Scott succeeds Jim Rosenblatt . . ."
"don't know what he did to get the kinda comments above"
None of the comments criticized Rosenblatt. They were mocking the news article.
But perhaps you have an English degree from MC.
You really can't appreciate that unless you've been behind on your deadline at a newspaper.
This thing reads like a press release, btw. I didn't see a byline.
Lets see the C-L publisher announces her retirement and then a few weeks later Gannett cuts loose all its print business to go it alone. Gannett will focus on broadcast but wait they kept Cars.com and Career Builder in the broadcast div.
What do you think happens next?
"It's nice that they're letting a dead person stay on as a professor."
It's either the Teacher's Union or tenure to blame for this one :-)

No, I still appreciate that
The general attitude these days is:
The author of the column was close enough. You knew what he meant.
High-five
He got better
Gates has been covering legal matters and criminal cases for decades. He is, in a word, stupid. Add in that he can't write, and one wonders how he came to be employed at the CL back when it was a legitimate newspaper.
I met the man tonight, and he told me he has been flooded with phone calls today from friends after this appeared. He was charming and gracious about this whole mess.
He wholeheartedly endorsed the new dean and is enthusiastic about returning to full-time teaching.
Hey now, if that English degree from MC was obtained when Dr. Turner was Department Chair, it was a damn good degree.
HaHaHaHa....nightmare for the CL but funny as heck for everyone witnessing the terrible decline of local print news.
He is one of this site's biggest fans. Met him at the True the Vote hearing. Was quoting my posts back to me. Really nice guy.
Did Mr. Gates ask you how many years you have been dead, Kingfish? He might be gearing up to do a story on you, too.
Mississippi College home to Mississippi Bible Thumpers... I wonder why they didn't hire Glenn Worley from the Physical Plant and his buddy Hollis Entrekin
