We report, you decide: Jackson Rising

The Malcolm X Grassroots Movement reports on its website:

May 2 – 4, 2014

Jackson, MS

Jackson, Mississippi like most of the metropolitan centers throughout the country needs to broaden its economy to confront the challenge of globalization, address its social ills, and revitalize itself. To address the growing crises of economic collapse, social inequality and environmental degradation, the broadened economy must diversify itself to include various forms of ownership and wealth creation models that fully include the vast majority of the population. The broadened economy must include economic democracy, worker ownership, food sovereignty, new models of home ownership, and sustainable production and distribution.

The New Economies Conference will focus on how the City of Jackson can and will start building the city of the future today through the inclusion of cooperatives and other forms of wealth creation based on the principles of solidarity, participatory democracy, and economic and social equity. With visionary leadership and strong community support, not only can we diversify and grow the economy of Jackson, but we can make Jackson a model center of cooperative and business development in the country.

The New Economies Conference will start this development process by focusing on the following:

1) We will provide education on what Cooperatives are, what they do and how they benefit their members and community by highlighting existing models and best practices from existing
Cooperatives in Mississippi, the Southeast region and throughout the country. This will foster an interest in Cooperative Entrepreneurship to meet community needs.

2) We will provide space to engage in public discussion and strategy development on creating the public policy infrastructure necessary in Jackson and the state of Mississippi to support various types of Cooperatives.

3) We will provide space to explore, better support and resource the existing Cooperatives and Credit Unions, strengthen emerging Cooperative development initiatives and foster the development of new Cooperatives in the city.

Sponsored by the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement, Community Aid and Development Incorporated, Mississippi Association of Cooperatives, Fund for Democratic Communities, and City of Jackson Mayor Chokwe Lumumba

Endorsed by the Southern Grassroots Economies Project, Coalition for a Prosperous Mississippi, Highlander Research and Education Center, Cooperation Texas, the US Solidarity Economy Network, and the Praxis Project.

For more information, or to sponsor and endorse please email Kaliw@city.jackson.ms.us or JacksonRising@gmail.com call 601.720.4638.

Wow! I don't know where to begin. I think the author was paid by the word. He or she could have said simply, "Hey, y'all. We're having a big ole socialist conference in Jackson and one of the sponsors is the mayor. Attendees will get a free Republic of Kush t-shirt."

On the other hand, I learned a new term...food sovereignty. Apparently, food sovereignty "prioritizes local and national economies and markets and empowers peasant and family farmer-driven agriculture, artisanal fishing, pastoralist-led grazing, and food production, distribution and consumption based on environmental, social and economic sustainability." Is this PhD gobbledygook for the farm-to-table movement?

The announcement lacks a few details---when exactly (the whole month of May?)--where? (Jackson covers several miles)--what (subject matter?)

If they want to encourage economic development, the first order of business would be to stop the black on black violence. Second, who wants to come to a city where the mayor has a background in the Black Muslim/ separatist movement (see poster if you need any evidence). Third, who wants to invest their capital in a city where the infrastructure is in such a state of decay. Fourth, the JPS is a freaking disaster. Very little education is occurring in the schools. For evidence I watched a program on local access on the cable where the administration was praising to the hill schools that where were receiving certificates of a grade of C from the state.

Jackson is a scary, rotten city.

I do not live in Madison County and I can say that.

Patton and Churchill told us that if we didn't kill those commies they would be a problem in the future. I say its still not to late.

Here's the rambling highlights:

1) Jackson suffers from predatory white capitalism and gentrification

2) Law enforcement does not share our values

3) We are going to focus on the sewer issues because the people of Jackson deserve clean water

4) And the solution to all our problems is alternative energy, urban gardening, legalization of illicit drugs and establishing collectives

Good luck with all of that

But, but, but, but...won't this be in competition with our city's salvation --- Whole Foods?

Anonymous said...

I think they have conference rooms available at Whole Foods. $25 designer salads for all!

Just assume that the NINE entities named on that flyer are paid for with your tax dollars.

Want to see what has become of our country.....go to the website of the Coalition of Prosperous Mississippi and click on partners....19 entities participating on your dime. Click on US Solidarity Network and navigate to the members link...a list of 18 non-profit entities, all funded on your dime. Dare to go to those entities websites and see how many sub-organizations there are below that....all of which presumably have executive directors and boards living off the same mama pig.

Marxism, Proletariat, Wage Slaves, or some of all. Ann Rand tells a story about her childhood in Russia, which I cant recall the title, but it's nice to know people allow their own to place the ring in their noses, and don't complain.

They use incomprehensible jargon for the same reason the critical race and gender studies crowd does: because if they said what they want to do in plain English, everyone would either laugh or recoil in horror.

The preponderance of the color Red in the above graphic tells me all I need to know about the conference. Wouldn't have needed to read 'Malcolm X Grassroots Movement' to know what it's about.

A quick look at the red-based color schemes of Lenin-era Russian poster art should confirm what I'm saying.

I think I might actually go just for shits and giggles. Might wear boots, a cowboy hat, and a gun. I'm sure they'll love me.

And do we really get a free shirt?

As Obama has decided to proceed without involving the Congress, the leadership of Jacktown has decided to negotiate the realm of industrial development without employers. Interesting concept.

I bet that new 1% "sales tax" will pay for this esteemed gathering of moron's, thief's, panhandler's, conmen, felons and consultants!

ROFLMAO
Y'all are still worried about communism? It's a failed economic system.
And ANY governmental system can become end up with a ruling class and become corrupted.
The key to freedom is a strong middle class that the rulers are dependent upon to stay in power.
Capitalism doesn't save you from a ruling class or haven't you heard of China ?

11:32 please elaborate.

Just when I was getting comfortable with the mayor and thinking he was not out to promote this absurd agenda.

Donkey butt. What a waste of time and resources.

Yet POTUS Barack Obama praises/eulogizes Pete Seeger, aka Stalin's Songbird, an unrepentant defender of the Soviet/Bolshevik regime. Seeger also endorsed and funded Zionist Theodore Hertzl's Palestine land grabs through his political and financial support of the JNF. He was also the benefactor to SNCC, COFO and other CR front organizations in 1960s Mississippi.

Pete Seeger was not about "peace," and he was no Uncle Dave Macon-- that's for sure!

I'll elaborate. Russia, China, Vietnam are all using the capitalist economic model. Quatar is a monarchy but capitalism is thriving there. Great Britain is a hybrid.

Name a communist ( not socialist, do look up the definitions) country that is economically thriving. You can't.

There is a difference between a system of government and an economic system.

Democracy is not dependent on capitalism as the Scandinavian countries demonstrate.

When the wealth and natural resources and power of a nation are controlled in the hands of a few and the vote, if it exists is rigged or people prevented from voting , it doesn't matter if the leader is called President, King, Chairman, a derivative of " Father".

Unless the government is benevolent or feels the middle class has enough power to threaten their position as leader, democracy or a democratic society cannot survive.

IF we were to become a one party system with all the power in the GOP or the DEMS, there would be no need to be benevolent to those who don't adhere to the controlling power's view.

Total power corrupts totally. It doesn't matter what you call it.

And, it doesn't matter if you have multiple parties of those parties cater to a wealthy few and are beholden to the few to remain in power.

What is really happening as far as I'm concerned is that Global Economic theory which has not led to economic interdependence but rather a redistribution of wealth into a fewer number of people in every country is moving all countries towards forms of oligarchy.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
