Former Madison County Administrator issued the following press release:
David W. Overby, CPA
Announcement of Candidacy for Chancery Clerk of Madison County
After two months of prayer, thought and family discussion, I am announcing my candidacy for Chancery Clerk of Madison County. This is an important position that requires someone who is experienced and professionally qualified to do the job.
I hold a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Mississippi and a Masters of Business Administration from Mississippi State University and am a Certified Public Accountant.
My experience includes twenty years working at leading public accounting firms conducting audits of businesses and public entities. In addition to auditing, my governmental experience includes over twelve years with the City of Ridgeland, Mississippi as City Clerk and Director of Finance and Administration. During my tenure there, Ridgeland was widely recognized as one of the best managed cities in Mississippi. We received the highest recognition from the International Government Finance Officers Association for the “Award of Excellence in Financial Management and Reporting” for twelve straight years. In addition, Ridgeland received the highest credit rating of any local government in the State of Mississippi. We balanced our budget every year with no tax increases. My professional contribution had a substantial impact on these accomplishments.
With the highest recommendation of the Ridgeland Mayor and Board of Aldermen, I was appointed County Administrator for Madison County by the Madison County Board of Supervisors. After serving for one and a half years and implementing several positive changes in our county government, I was dismissed when the power on the Board of Supervisors switched back to the Democratic Party and the old powers in the Madison County Courthouse.
The position of Chancery Clerk requires an experienced and seasoned professional with the financial and management skills necessary to effectively carry out those required Chancery Clerk functions including County Treasurer, County Auditor, Clerk of the Board and other duties as required by law. Many of these duties are the same that I effectively performed as City Clerk for the City of Ridgeland. As County Administrator, I worked effectively alongside former Chancery Clerk Arthur Johnston. This position requires a working knowledge of volumes of public laws and complex local government finances. My track record has repeatedly demonstrated a strong commitment to openness, accountability, ethical behavior and excellence. Furthermore, I commit to be a servant to the public.
In summary, the position of Chancery Clerk is a complex and awesome responsibility and requires the highest level of specific qualifications, experience and uncompromising integrity. I humbly ask for your vote and support.

very well said.
"Three months of prayer, thought and family discussion".....for a lil' ole Chancery Clerk position? This position as public servant must be more important than I realized. Or maybe just more lucrative.
David is beyond qualified for the position, and Madison County would be extremely lucky to have a man of his integrity elected to this position.
(And at 8:12 - you must be one of JBC's minions that is willing to sell out the entire county just to get your deal done)
and besides Ronnie Lott is not qualified
KF,
Speaking of Madison County, there was an article in the Madison County Journal yesterday about the potential agreement on the Lost Rabbit suit. Think you can post that to your site under a new topic and get some feedback?
I'm an alderman in the fine city of ridgeland, never considered myself a minion of anybody or anything. just well -qualified to speak to how perfect David would be for the job. worked directly with him 10-12 years, top-flight, honest, and smart. and I emphasize honest.
Rather than a bunch of 'who likes whom' posts, can we get to the nut and have some realistic posts regarding qualifications? And if there are substantial negatives that voters should know (Other than I don't like him), air them.
Go ahead 2:27 PM and kick it off. Get to the nut and provide us with some realistic posts regarding qualifications. And if you have some cycles left over throw in the substantial negatives.
He threw his house cat out doors on a cold night.
Did he ever put his dog on the roof of his car?
10:52 No, but in his autobiography he talks about eating dogs during his childhood in Indonesia. If he's a Dem, don't expect Donner K or the mainstream media to report that to the voters (or their dogs).
In the future Repubs may have to have a disclaimer after their campaign ads: "No dogs were harmed in the taking of this vacation". :-)
I'm just curious. How does Overby expect to sit at the same table with the same supervisors who fired his ass and have a good working relationship???
That's hardly a requirement of the job, 3:07. The supervisors themselves prove that at every meeting.
When David was City clerk, he allowed several things to be competitively bid every year, if you did not win, he would call and deliver the message.
Imagine that in Madison County!
