Of course he waits to say so until after he announces his retirement but better late than never. The Daily Caller reports:
12-term Virginia Rep. Jim Moran, an Appropriations Committee member who said this month that he will not seek re-election in 2014, said that not enough young people are signing up for Obamacare coverage to make the law work.
“I’m afraid that the millennials, if you will, are less likely to sign up. I think they feel more independent, I think they feel a little more invulnerable than prior generations. But I don’t think we’re going to get enough young people signing up to make this bill work as it was intended to financially,” Moran said in an interview with WAMU American University Radio.
“And, frankly, there’s some legitimacy to their concern because the government spends about $7 for the elderly for every $1 it spends on the young,” Moran said.
“I just don’t know how we’re going to do it frankly. If we had a solution I’d be telling the president right now,” Moran said.

Fairly misleading title of this piece. The Congressman states that in his opinion, enough young people may not sign up for the ACA. This important law "works" in many great ways right now and has now for years in some ways beneficial to our citizens: no denying somebody coverage for a pre-existing condition, no canceling health insurance coverage for babies because they get seriously ill, etc.
Give it up 9:22. Obamacare is a disaster. More people uninsured now than before President Liar-of-the-Year took office.
Fer sure we need another eight years of booshed. What with that next generation of up and coming Booshes we can have even more food on our family.
Moran is taking a parting shot on AARP and the old folks lobby. Politically its an old man's world. You don't represent northern Virginia and NOT know that.
Once a couple of more states pick up the expanded Medicaid money, the number of uninsured will shrink. If the US Congress bumped up the minimum wage, the states expense on expanded Medicaid would be reduced as more citizens moved over the poverty threshold.
Right. Bump up the minimum wage so more people can lose their jobs and so those who do manage to keep their's get pushed over the poverty level, then, forced onto the exchanges for subsidized insurance that they can't afford to pay for, let alone use, for medical services that they'll never need. Donkey logic at its finest.
Ocare is a disaster, everybody knows that. Insurance company bailouts are a disaster as well. The reason the dems and the left Repubs aren't worried and don't get off their asses to do anything about it--Ocare will become such a horror that Barry will 'step in' and move the insurance market closer to a one-payer system (government only insurance). when the government bails you out (ins companies), then the government owns you.
That was the plan all along.
I wish Obama would try to be a good President instead of trying to be a good King.
I agree about the misleading title for the article. - And it shouldn't come as a surprise that young, healthy citizens aren't signing up in droves this early on. They don't see an immediate need to be covered, while people with previously existing health issues who have been unable to get health insurance are motivated to sign up as early as they can.
Since the law provides a penalty for those who don't sign up by the end of March - you can expect an avalanche of signups by the younger healthier citizens toward the end of the signup period.
That's an obvious no-brainer.
Still there will be other young healthy folk who will choose to pay the monetary fine this time around for not signing up timely, and then sign up later.
It takes time to get any new massive program implemented. In a couple of years, it will be running smoothly, with a high level of compliance with the mandatory health care coverage.
January 30, 2014 at 11:49 AM = psilocybin farmer
Cheaper for the young to pay the penalty. And if they jigger their withholdings properly so that they don't receive a refund they'll never pay the penalty.
BREAKING *** BREAKING *** BREAKING
Kaiser Health News: Support among the uninsured for President Narcissist's health insurance Ponzi scheme CRATERS.
I doubt you'll see any of those numbers reported over at Donner's downtown frontal lobotomy mart.
Ocare doesn't have the necessary legal side to actually collect the "fine" for not having insurance. 12:28 hit it on the head--only way they can collect on the fine is to take it out of a refund that is due when you file your taxes.
psilocybin farmer...hahahahahahahaha
Excuses...excuses.... Obamacare is a disaster. Only some idiots in Washington would not know that the young people who can afford health insurance already had it. Also, today we find out the healthcare navigators who are helping people apply for Obamacare had no background check yet they are allowed to have complete access to people's personal information. Obamacare is a disaster.
This tune is getting tiresome.
Obama is President and ACA is the law of the land.
You don't like him. Fine. He can't serve a 3rd term.
Deal with the IS.
Suggest changes to ACA or present a viable alternative that the American public will support.
Suggest alternatives to current policy and get public support.
Whining is non-productive.
The worse thing about ACA is that the health insurance lobby and pharmaceutical industries wrote some of the sections. Start there!
While you're bitching and name calling, we, as a Nation, continue to fall behind the rest of the world. wftumdmi
How about the myriad of immigration laws the Obummer isn't enforcing? Aren't those also the "law of the land"? He's incompetent.
This tune is getting tiresome.
Eisenhower is President and segregation is the law of the land.
You don't like him. Fine. He can't serve a 3rd term.
Deal with the IS.
8:09 He's too busy not enforcing the "laws of the land" regarding selling firearms to Mexican cartels (without notifying the Mexican government, although that concerns a treaty between nations, not a law within a country). But as our former Secretary of State/annointed Next President of the United States said in regard to another international clusterf**k: "What difference does it make?"
For those who are hopelessly uninformed/misinformed, google "Fast and Furious" and read about the American agents killed by Mexican nationals using guns sold illegally by the US Department of Justice. Your tax dollars at work and all that....
New Study: Don't be stupid kids, pay the penalty
The ACA's perverse economic incentives are well documented. The law makes health insurance more expensive for many young adults, while at the same time making the decision to go without health coverage exponentially less risky than it previously was. It is impossible to predict how many young adults will ultimately enroll in coverage, but it is clear that many young adult enrollees will be worse off financially if they decide to purchase health insurance.
.....
We find that after accounting for subsidies and cost-sharing, 6 out of 7 uninsured, young adult households will find it financially advantageous to forego health coverage, and instead pay the mandate penalty and cover their own health care costs. As the penalty increases, that number will drop from 86 percent in 2014 to 71 percent in 2015 and 62 percent in 2016, before ticking back up to 66 percent in 2019. In two additional analyses, using alternate assumptions explained in further detail below, the exact percentages vary, but the overall finding is constant; the majority of uninsured young adults will benefit financially from opting out of coverage in 2014.
Love, LOVE the "law of the land" retort from the intellectually dishonest and ethically derelict Obama cultists.
You mean the ACA was the law of the land before your cult leader started lawlessly changing the ACA without Congressional authorization.
Y'all want anarchy and when it comes that is exactly what you'll receive. Buy plenty of ammo because y'all are going to need it.

Why is this hard?
Those who were against segregation, KF, filed lawsuits and protested and organized.
Those against Obamacare are not doing anything constructive that I can see save bitching.
The lawsuits failed. How about coming up with another plan or modifying ACA?
It is apparently more important to have this issue to bitch for the next few years than to responsibly GOVERN.
Roosevelt said to " speak softly and carry a big stick". These days politicians and their true believers yell loudly and act like dicks!
The GOP and Tea Party needs to introduce bills that CHANGE ACA for the better!
The GOP needs to stop being ONLY the Anti-Obama party and be FOR something!
This is like hearing someone complain about the wife they're " fixing to divorce". Get on with governing , damn it!
This 24/7 campaigning against the other party with zero governing is pissing the non-believers off!
