The Mississippi Rose Law Firm?

Someone did some oppo-research on Butler Snow and fed it to Cottonmouth.  The Democrat website published a little article this week on Butler Snow and its Republican connections.

It seems Mr. Ryan Brown is shocked, shocked, mind you, that a lobbying firm (Butler Snow has a "government relations" division or whatever they call political connections now) might actually hire people who worked in state government.  Let's see Mr. Brown show some real balls and start talking about state bond work and Tim Ford.

Then there is Walker Jones.  I am much less outraged about this than is Mr. Brown, or I should say, mine is less selective.  I'll put it this way: if Walker Jones came calling and offered Mr. Brown a nice fat salary for a lobbying or "government relations" job, I seriously doubt he would say no to them.  I will be even more surprised if he publishes a similar piece about Democrats.  As long as politics exists, there will also exist firms who hire people based on their "connections" to the rulers in power.  It's called human nature and that is the way the world works. Post about Butler Snow.

Butler Snow should be lauded for thriving in a really bad legal economy in Mississippi. They didn't invent politics. Why should their business model ignore it?

Much more interested in your statement regarding "'connections' to the RULERS (emphasis added) in power." Offhand remark?

Meant it as a general term. Meant it regardless of state, city, county, or form of government. Don't read too much into it. They are rulers, just elected ones with constitutionally limited powers.

It's not so much that it's bad, you're right, it happens in a democracy. My concern is the dumbing down of the whole process in terms of people. You can love him or hate him or not care, but you can't deny Haley is a pro. Just about everyone else on the list is well, not! Have you ever worked with any of these people? Paul Hurst? come on. Sidney Allen? you've got to be kidding. This Trey Hairston guy literally was telling people that he was trying to build a client base while he was in government and apparently did. He used to work for Tim Ford. Balch and Bingham is trying to do the same thing, they're just not as connected. The problem is it's become sort of a little frat with these younger ones who trail around Haley, Barry Canada, Charlie Williams Don Clark and pick up table scraps. Seriously, none of them have EVER done anything on their own and probably never will but because they are good little lap dogs, will make a nice living in Mississippi, STILL the poorest state in America. This is what should upset people, not that there's politics here.

Don't get them draws in a wad, Kinfish ~ Butler Snow has every intention of adding a handful of Dems in the second wave after the first of the year. I have it on good authority they are currently vetting Horhn and Cecil. It takes longer to vet a dem since they don't have references other than goofy-Rickey Cole.

At least they are transparent about it.

rumor is: not long ago, BS laid off a lot of people, including associate attorneys. their legal business had declined just as every other firm. those laid off however, apparently had no connection to the "government affairs" section, mostly insurance defense folks. a lot of these folks were told they would get "contract" work without benefits as work was available. after a few months, at least one person I know of, an attorney, got none and now works for state government.

Is Lance Bonner still with the firm?

11:36,

Your comment has me thinking that Butler Snow has some leaders who specialize in marketing legal services. If they laid off a chunk of attorneys who practiced insurance defense (thanks in part to tort reform maybe?) and started focusing on government work, then that tells me they are responsive to a changing marketplace. What is puzzling is the London branch. What do they see shaking over in Europe, London specifically, that they need to focus resources across the pond? Forget what the press release said, that's never the full story. I could go tin foil hat and say it might be connected to the City of London and its crazy financial influence, but that's just fun guessing on my part.

@10:04 has it right. The only thing really amiss is the overpaid no-talent ass clowns (yeah, I watched Office Space over Christmas) who manage to make a career out of essentially walking around holding on to Haley, et al.'s inside-out pocket. On the other hand, everyone who matters knows that's all they're doing, so at least you know the price of their dignity.

good point 2:08. they follow the money...

"....responding to a changing marketplace." What a friggin' concept. People with a GED understand that workplace dynamic.

Oh good grief, 3:19. How many lawyers do you know that are marketers first and attorneys second? That's the point. Butler Snow isn't your typical law firm. They bill differently and as 3:07 so eloquently put it, they follow the money.

Put it this way. Some of the lawyers that they have put in leadership positions I wouldn't want representing me in court or conference rooms. I would, however, give serious thought to them advising on what to say in a sound room.

This is the same law firm that hired an ex-Gov that pardoned 4 murderers and bought cars for to of them and said their crimes were "crimes of passion". Also they have a CEO who is about to be indicted for the murder of his daughter. Something is very wrong with this group.

Wake up, Wake up, smell the "money" where has everyone been.. . . . .
1. The Butler Snow Taj Mahal was built with Go-Zone Katrina money.. (Katrina did severe damage to the Renaissance... don't you remember?)

2. "I beg your pardon" guvnah was in touch with his Washington pals, 43 and the Shaw group before Katrina ever hit shore lining up tax credits which he passed on to Dapper Don and his crew...

3. Butler Snow is if anything loyal to those who feather the firm's largesse... hence the long list of employees to whom they are beholding...

4. Now what role Flipper Fhil will play upon his exit from the public payroll is a happening in the making... He'll probably settle for a pair of boots at Christmas and a lifetime supply of hairspray...

5. Never before has anyone gained so much influence and made so much money with a few $200.00 checks as has BS....

while we're playing 7 degrees of separation (only more like 2 degrees because this is politics in Mississippi…): Rachel Allen, Senior Staff Assistant on Gov. Bryant's payroll is sister to Butler Snow's Sidney Allen and rumor has she is going to be joining Kirk Sims on Thad's re-election team… My guess is that Kirk and Caroline are headed to Washington after Thad's campaign ends. She's too well-connected and he's too well-liked. I see them moving up the proverbial politics chain. And I'm betting Lucien Smith will run for another statewide office. (Lucien, Rachel, and Sidney all went to St. Andrew's together too.) Politics is all about connections. It always is but seems more so in Mississippi.

7:55 p.m., what basis do you have to allege that the Managing Partner of Butler Snow is about to be indicted for murdering his daughter? I hope you have a strong and legitimate basis to make such a heinous allegation.

KF, I thought you didn't let people on here make an allegation that somebody committed a serious crime without evidence to back it up? By the way, I am a Javkson attorney but have no association with Butler Snow and don't even know who the Managing Partner is.

Anonymous said...

Geeze, next thing you know somebody will be alleging they have their own Vince Foster.

Kingfish said...

The case is going before a grand jury. So yes, its permissible to think he will be indicted. However, the police might also submit it to the grand jury so they can protect themselves in case there is actually no case.

OK, no more Bonner comments on this thread. Period. You had your chance on the recent post about the case.

Anonymous said...

9:44 must be some kinda idiot to say that someone mentioned the MANAGING PARTNER at BS. The man in question is not the managing partner nor is he an attorney at said firm.

Anonymous said...

Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Anonymous said...

You are correct, 10:21 a.m. I said Managing Partner based on the prior commentor's allegation that he was the CEO. The website says COO.

I guess I'm out of the loop, KF, because I had no idea that anybody in the police or the media had identified a suspect or suspects in the case, though I haven't followed the case very much. Who has said that this gentleman is the target of the grand jury investigation?

Kingfish said...

Good point. Could be indicting anyone or no one.

The 8th Horse said...

8:26; Is there no end to your litany of mistakes? He is not a partner, much less a managing one. Nor is another a commentor, but a commenter.

Anonymous said...

8:26 is an idiot. CEO-COO is not the same as a managing partner of a law firm. Then to admit you haven't kept up with the case yet you want to comment makes your stupidity more obvious. Go back to watching Honey Boo Boo. I'm sure you know all the players there.

Anonymous said...

Folks, I'm just going to through this out there, but a lot of this sounds like jealosy to me.

Anonymous said...

I don't think that's it 8:44, I think alot of smart/average people who work hard every day see this crap going on in plain site and it's legitimate resentment for the system working the way it does. The R's are running things now and we're still 50th. I guess we'll become more of a third world nation. The peeps at Butler Snow and lots of others in North Jackson/South Madison/Rankin get to enjoy this while lots all over our state still suffer.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
