Stokes pontificates on voter ID

Election Commissioner Connie Cochran briefed the Hinds County Board of Supervisors on the implementation of voter ID last week.  However, Stokes being Stokes, he launched into several diatribes on the matter that were rather interesting. See for yourself.
Its pretty good at 9:30.

Someone said it's better to keep your mouth shut, and let people think you're stupid, than to open your mouth and let people know you're stupid. Po' BooBoo.

Having grown up in the generation AFTER Fat Albert and the gang.... can someone please translate what he was at least attempting to say?

I think he was saying "verifying the voter roles scares criminals" from voting?

I keep wondering what is the REAL cause for the kick back on voter ID. Several other states require a picture ID to be shown in order to vote. I moved here from Virginia and we have been required to show ID for years.

See Canton article and you'll learn exactly why the kickback against voter I.D. Of course Thomas the Head will tell you "its the white male patriarchy attempting to suppress the black lesbian left handed transexual yacht racer vote"

Well, I don't think anyone here has picked up on what Kennuff was saying.
Kennuff is concerned that the voter I.D. would scare off possible wanted suspects. And Kennuff is trying to protect those that may be wanted by the law. Now, why would Kennuff be concerned about fugitives from the law? Oh wait, that's what keeps putting him in office.....

If it's true that Mississippi has no problem of voter fraud and if it is true that voter ID will not disenfranchise anybody, what's the big deal and why do we spend so much time arguing about it?

I have photo ID. I even have a passport.
I don't like that I have to jump through another hoop.
Registering to vote and having my name listed in my precinct should be enough.
Our election commissioners shouldn't need this.
They should be able in the computer age to keep their records up to date.
They should know if someone on their list is dead.
They should know if my address is accurate. You can find on the Internet every place I've lived.
If my credit card companies know if I die, so should the Election Commissioner.
We pay for people to do their job and do it well. Now I have to , again in society, do someone else's work for them.

Try to google Kenneth Stokes or Kenneth I. Stokes.

They should know if someone on their list is dead.

There are five registered voters at my Hinds County address but only three registered voters living here. As far as the other two, one died in the mid-90s and his spouse moved away a year after that. Have brought this to the attention of Dunn's office/Election Commission a half-dozen times over nearly 18 years. BUT there they are, today, both still active status registered voters here.

One of my next door neighbors passed away in 2006. She's still active status registered too. The house across the street, one person has lived there alone for nearly a decade but four people have active voter registrations at that address.

If you live in Hinds check out your own address or other addresses here: http://www.co.hinds.ms.us/pgs/apps/voter.asp

So it isn't a matter 7:12 AM of paying someone to do their job and do it well, or even do it average. Because they aren't doing their job at all and most of that refusal to remove those dead and/or moved away off the rolls is by design.

No one in Mississippi, certainly not the corrupt Democrats opposing VoterId, can tell you how many dead people or former residents are voting because the damn voter rolls don't show them as dead or moved away. The rolls have them down as active registered voters. And when some counties have attempted to proactively verify and clean their voter rolls who rushes to the court house to stop them? Corrupt Democrats.

Mississippi recently had two counties forced by lawsuit to verify their voter rolls because the number of registered voters in those counties exceeded the number of people the 2010 census said actually lived in the county.

Do you hear ANY Democrat or progressive idiot in this state calling for an accuracy cleaning of the voter rolls in our 82 counties? Have you heard EVEN ONE?

So until that day when the corruption is rooted out and Mississippians can have a sense of faith in the accuracy of our voter rolls I will happily be inconvenienced by a request at my precinct to show ID.

It isn't the optimal solution and it doesn't solve the issue of voter roll corruption. But it sure as hell will be a step forward and less corrupt than what we have now.

The only people who will be suppressed by VoterID will be the people who, for whatever reason, are not legally voting.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
