She is sharp and would be a good mayor. I dont know if her campaign can get off the ground. NE Jackson seems to be getting behind Lee, who has no chance of winning.

Shadowfax said...

Perhaps a woman is the answer. I'd go with her if I had a vote.

Anonymous said...

@ 4:24 - You're right about her waiting too long to get her campaign going. Why bother at this point?

For the sake of Jackson, I hope you're wrong about Lee. I think you are.

Anonymous said...

She doesn't hyphenate her name. So she's got that going for her.

Anonymous said...

Lee is very bright, and I would hope that he could win. He can garner the 39211's and the black middle and upper middle class votes. None of that, however, counts with the fact that two populous wards elected the Stokeses, and Chokwe Lumumba... Thats a very large group of people, and that spells doom for the rest of us- black or white.

Anonymous said...

Lee won't even make the runoff.

Anonymous said...

Of course, she is qualified because she is female. We don't even need to know anything else. It's making so much sense to me now! Gee, thanks Shadowfax!

Anonymous said...

yes sir ree bobcat! just wait until chewbacca starts bleating that mr. lee is just an "uncle tom" and that will be the end of the road!

Shadowfax said...

They're ALL "qualified", 9:11. I didn't say being female qualified her. I suggested maybe it's time for a female mayor. Be more discerning when you read and things might occur to you.

Lee is this year's Marshand. Quinn is highly qualified and well-educated (Yale). She is a very reasonable person from what I hear.

Anonymous said...

Any day now we'll see the poll from push-poll hackster and Donkeycrat favorite son Brad Chism how the unknown Jonathan Lee is already lapping the field. LMAO

Anonymous said...

Yale? Why isn't she mentioning a degree from Yale in her bio?

Anonymous said...

Hinds County Sheriff Tyrone Lewis is her biggest "behind the scenes" backer. He wants to follow McMillin's footsteps and simultaneously serve as Sheriff and Chief of Police. (Thanks, Mac!) It'll be interesting to see whether Lewis has enough of a machine / organization in place to get her into the runoff. I will say this -- he could have picked a worse candidate to back.

Anonymous said...

Lee is the best candidate and he has a great chance to win.

Anonymous said...

Agree with 7:08. Jackson needs someone with a businessman's mindset. With apologies to any lawyers out there, small law firms don't qualify. However, Ms. Quinn would likely be a fine candidate for city attorney.

Anonymous said...

Lee is the candidate of the downtown robber barons who want to put the city into greater debt chasing more streets of tax schemes.

Anonymous said...

Lee is the candidate of any thinking Jacksonian who wants a real leader as mayor. Jackson won't get more debt under Lee. It will get reasonable management and decisive action. We've tried paralysis by analysis and decisive but crazy. Now it's time for a bright mayor who is not afraid to surround himself with capable people and allow input from everyone who has a genuine interest in improving the city. The candidate who knows how to successfully execute a plan is Jonathan Lee.

Anonymous said...

She want to combine the PD and Sheriffs Office as a Metro Law Enforcement which is a huge mistake. Tyrone running both place would be a disaster. Lee is the most feasible candidate in the field .

Anonymous said...

I know Regina Quinn well and combining the sheriff department and JPD is not her plan! Whoever gave you that information is misleading the public

Anonymous said...

We need someone who can listen to the needs of the community and be able to relate to them. Regina is concerned about the citizens in Jackson and want to create a change for this city.

Anonymous said...

Long as Harvey , Chockwe , Frank and William don't win it should be OK. Quinn or Lee seem to be the best choices . Someone has to fix that PD , it has been on a extra downturn since Rebecca came in.

Anonymous said...

I've had the opportunity to attend several
neighborhood meetings where Attorney Regina
Quinn was present. She is concerned about
JACKSON ! Simply put. Qualified she is, but most
Importantly she is ready to fight to restore and
revitalize Jackson. I've seen her in action, one
on one with the community. She is what we need
in the Mayors office. Quinn will get our infrastructure
fixed!

Anonymous said...

As a public servant myself, we need leaders in place
who can work on behalf of the citizens, and boost
this city with economic development. Being a business
owner, Im looking for the best candidate who can
negotiate on our behalf. I strongly believe this lady
is ready and capable of governing our city. Why not!!!!

Anonymous said...

Regina is a highly qualified candidate for mayor and her legal background is just one. She is a candidate OF the people and not of the same OLD people. There is something to be said when all you see is the same old faces popping up to try and run an already broken city/system. Mayor Johnson might be able to point a finger at this or that as to "why" things haven't worked out so well, but he is forgetting the 4 other fingers that are pointing back at the source of the problem--HIM! Regina Quinn has been OF the community for many years serving in multiple positions that have put her in direct contact to see the City of Jackson and the glaring problems it has. I am sure Mr. Lee is a nice young man however what has he done to help the City of Jackson lately? I understand in the African American Community Mr. Lee hasn't really put in any "sweat equity" and paid his dues. Mr. Leland Speed has backed a candidate and had the 39211 community back a previous candidate--which failed to pick a candidate of the ENTIRE CITY OF JACKSON, not just of one subset. The same goes for Mr. Lee--at the end of the day he will receive no more than 10% of the African American Community vote.

Anonymous said...

11:06 you are way off base about Jonathan Lee. Your understanding of his track record is incorrect. If you had any idea how many things he has done as a volunteer for the entire city, you would be embarrassed to make a statement like that. He has been a tireless advocate for fairness on issues of importance in the African American community and he has worked his way into places where he could actually make a difference. He has invested enormous amounts of sweat equity in all parts of the city. It would be interesting to know exactly what you mean by "paid his dues" because it sounds like some kind of political pipeline designed by the "same OLD people" you mentioned. Jonathan is not the same OLD people. He understands the need to tie groups together to make the city great.

Anonymous said...

@11:29 Please do share all of his experience as being a volunteer? Perhaps some projects he has worked on that have benefited the City of Jackson? Projects he is currently working on? Putting volunteer groups together and running a city are two different things! Being an advocate for fairness is great, what has he done that has equated to actual fairness being achieved?

Lee has less of a chance to win than Crisler did and NOWHERE REMOTELY NEAR the name recognition that Crisler brought to the table prior to the primary.

In other words, Lee has zero chance.

If the white voters in NE Jackson want to support another loser and end up with the same amount of influence as they have today, which is next to none, then by all means support Lee.

Anonymous said...

Jonathan Lee is attached at the hip to Prophet Ben Allen's efforts to increase Jackson taxes to pay for a publicly funded arena.

Over the last six (6) months, Regina Quinn has visited all seven (7) wards, attending over 80 neighborhood association meetings, church services, and community events. She was in the Jackson State University Homecoming Parade, the Presidential Hills Parade, and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade. She was recently awarded the Dr. Margaret Walker Alexander Award at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Awards Banquet. The response to her candidacy from all these events has been wonderful! Therefore, it is unquestionable that the Quinn Campaign has executed an excellent grass roots effort. And now we are entering the media phase of the campaign. Regina has her track shoes on, and the campaign is going well.

One thing is clear: the City needs, wants, and is ready for new leadership. And Regina is the right person at the right time to provide that leadership. We believe that Jackson wins with Quinn. She grew up in this City, she loves this City, and she loves the people of this City. Join the movement! Visit our website at www.ReginaQuinnforMayor.com to volunteer and financially contribute to this movement.

Thanks for your support!

Please enlighten me. What has J Lee. done in regards to the African American Community? He is out of touch with our community. A good ole' boy. He has just recently tried to make his was into the community by attending Jackson State Football games, walking in the Martin Luther King parade, etc. Doesn't qualify him to lead. He does not understand the issues our community faces and never will. And Jackson is predominantly African American. He is the most unattached candidate in the race.

1:44 shithead. You mean the arena the experts said would work? And who has uttered "raising taxes for a publicly financed arena". Liar.

Get informed. I work for the state and WE are the ones babbling on about a "publicly financed arena".

Keep up.

Guru misses the boat badly. Can't keep up Guru with someone so woefully lost.

I have had an opportunity to talk to Mrs Quinn and Mr. Lee and I believe Mrs. Quinn's political operatives have likely taken over this thread. She realizes that she and Mr. Lee will have too duke out for NE Jackson. Clearly at this point, Mr. Lee is winning. My conversation with her was more about why Mr. Lee couldn't win instead of what she would do. Both candidates are well spoken and intelligent, but Mrs. Quinn just seemed light on details. I follow both candidates on Facebook and tonight I visited both candidate's website. There is zero content on Mrs. Quinn's website. No plans, no ideas, nada.... Just empty political talk and her resume. What's interesting is the resume on Lee's website lists affiliations with Midtown, the Farish Street YMCA, Operation Shoe string, and JPS. What I'm not seeing is evidence of Quinn's community service. In fact, there isn't a single community reference on Quinn's resume. Not to mention the fact that Lee's website is full of details and solutions for the City's issues. After sitting down with both candidates, my assessment is that Mr. Lee is the better of the two candidates. Months later after I have revisited the info available online, I'm still convinced.

Clearly at this point, Mr. Lee is winning.

Winning what? The race for best Facebook page?

4:18 Jackson is not quite small enough for you to know everybody. Maybe you noticed Jonathan Lee at football games and the parade this year because he has been running for mayor for months! That doesn't mean he was not doing great things in the community before you noticed. Jonathan Lee has done plenty to prove his good intentions and capabilities. You can start your research at his website. Don't confuse success with being out of touch.

Anonymous said...

I don't see how Quinn is qualified to be mayor after she got fired from jackson state. Ask anybody. She did a horrible job there and she'll do a horrible job as mayor. I'm voting for Lee. No Harvey. No to Chokwe.

Anonymous said...

Lee will be the next mayor of Jackson. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that black people are just as fed up with harvey as white folks. Lumumba is too radical for moderate black folks and whites are scared of him.

Seriously, what has Quinn done? She was fired from her last job.

What's wrong with an intelligent guy who knows how to run a business, manage a budget, and build relationships across economic and racial lines? That's what we need in Jackson. I'm for Lee.

Anonymous said...

Jonathan Lee was a big backer of John Horhn's run for Mayor in 2009. The soundbites coming out of his campaign sound almost the same as Horhn's.

My point is it was noted that Lee has done a lot for the African American community. And my question remains...what has he done specifically for our community? Please don't insult me by referring me to a website. If you are so aware of those accomplishments, please share.

And Lee is very out of touch with the AA community. I've lived in Jackson my entire life. So it's accurate to say that I know a lot of people in my community. Especially the movers and shakers of the AA community. And Lee is not one of them.

He inherited a family business. And yes he has served on and managed boards. Bravo! My question remains. What has he done for the predominately African American community that he wants to lead?

Kingfish said...

I dunno.

What did Tate do for the white community? What did Phil or Haley do for the White community?

All of this "what have they done for the community" BS is codespeak for electing a bunch of loud mouths who've never done a damn thing or have a weak resume. Usually what "doing for the community" means is handing out a bunch of sweetheart contracts i.e. the Hinds County Board of Supervisors and hiring buddies.

Never mind someone actually hiring black people, paying payroll and property taxes, and living a good solid life. Better to be a loudmouth activist or someone with his hand out getting government business while claiming to be doing it "for the community".

I recant my previous statements after taking your advice and reading the content on Mr. Lee's website. What qulaifies him to lead period. I do not see anything that qualifies him to lead Jackson, a city in dire need of an effective leader. You are looking at positions Johnathon has held on numerous community organization's boards. I applaud him for his volunteer efforts. We are charged to volunteer and help others. I've also been a member of numerous boards. And if you have, then you'll agree that a lot of people serve on boards to build resumes unfortunately. Your candidate needs to expand on his actions that produced positive change for the boards he served on. That's what truly matters. But serving on a BOD does not qualify one to serve as mayor of a city.

Anonymous said...

I served with him on the MSU Alumni Board for the Central Mississippi Chapter for three years so I have first hand experience with working with him. He was very active and involved and made positive contributions.

That is the salient question.

I served with him on the MSU Alumni Board for the Central Mississippi Chapter for three years so I have first hand experience with working with him. He was very active and involved and made positive contributions.

Fine. But how does service on the Alumni Board translate into experience leading an organization with 1000+ employees and a quarter-billion dollar annual budget?

10:45 you are the predictable negative nobody that stalks JJ and trashes any and everybody that attempts to contribute to our city. Such a pathetic lil shit you are.

A city has to be run like a corporation and i fell that Lee is the best candidate. People will oppose him because the feel he ie "black enough" but thinking is how you have the Stokes' as elected officials.

Anonymous said...

12:02 pm first off, is your last name Stokes? Reading and spelling is fundamental.

Anonymous said...

@ 6:03 My apologies I was multi-tasking but I hope you find this more to you liking Dr...... . As I was saying the elected officials of Jackson and Hinds County are elected for the wrong reasons . Mr. Lee is being heralded as the candidate for the 39211 area, if that's true that's not a bad thing Jackson has been in a downward spiral for over a decade a young fresh business oriented candidate can put new life in this struggling city.

Shadowfax said...

Look at Greenville for a potential consideration in this discussion. Greenville, once the flagship city of the west half of the state and the third largest city in MS had more industry than you could shake a stick at, a large multi-cultural population, river, rail, highway, two parallel 7000 foot runways, churches galore, you name it.

Then began the downward spiral. After a number of ineffective mayors in a row, for whatever reasons, Greenville last year elected a white mayor. Tragically, disease took him swiftly and another white gentleman has been elected by this predominantly black population.

I say that to suggest the discussion NEED NOT be all about the AA community or 'what have you done lately for black folks' or which wards, in combination, will pull the most minority votes.

If Jackson keeps on electing whoever this or that group thinks will benefit them the most, with no mature view toward resurrecting a great city, then Jackson will continue the downward spiral it's been mired in for years.

It seems white folks are afraid of and don't trust black leadership. It appears black folks are distrusting of and despise whites. Given that, is any amount of discussion worthwhile at all?

She is one sharp lady who has Jackson's best interest at heart. The citizens of Jackson need to exercise some good sense and elect her.

Anonymous said...

What has Regina Quinn done for anyone? Jackson State exercised some good sense when they let her go. I can see it now. All city of Jackson contracts going to her husband at the John May law firm.

If the # of yard signs in Eastover are any indication, it'll be Harvey Johnson v. Regina Quinn in the run-off.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
