Oh boy, I wonder how long it will take the guy that calls Jackson "Jackustan" (what a clever name) to add his input. I'm sure it's going to be sooooooooo informative. I can't wait.

Anonymous said...

It's a good thing we have the Madison's crime stats. Maybe in a year, we can substantiate whether the people that live there were correct in their fear that the JSU expansion will bring so much crime to their city. Only time will tell!

Darryl Hamilton said...

Hey, Anon at 7:09am, calling Jackson "Jackustan" is no different than others with their "stanking Rankin" or sideswipes at Madison with its attention to sign height restrictions and brick accoutrements. As y'all say in the local vernacular, slow your roll.

Anonymous said...

The choice to read what others post here 7:09 AM is your own.

If you only want to read what you think is acceptable and informative or control what others post about Jackson then maybe you should start your own blog.

Only aggravated assault is up in Jackson. The perception theory has been validated.

Bless you! Well said.

@Reality Check. What is the homicide rate in Jackson so far this year?

KaptKangaroo said...

It is pronounced "stankin' Rankin" asswipe. If you are going to insult others, including me, please get it right.

Anonymous said...

it's official, madison is crime-riddled. soplifting, illegal tint, no insurance, and pot! i'm moving to w. jacktown..

Anonymous said...

Not sure it was you who was being insulted Kappy unless you are posting anonymously.

Anonymous said...

Reality check.....of those murders how many were innocent people merely going about their business and randomly shot?

Anonymous said...

Again, sadly, the dark side of Jackson apologia (February 6, 2013 at 10:49 AM) comes forth with their depraved hearts pathetically suggesting that some of this city's murders may be acceptable because the person or persons killed were not innocents nor cut down due to random happenstance.

You are the sort of disgusting people who are holding Jackson back. Please leave our city so that the adults who are actually trying to make a difference do not have to waste any more valuable time denouncing your stupid regressive mindset. You are a large part of Jackson's problem. Please leave.

On a completely different note, I just called the Mississippi State Capitol switchboard to get a message to the House Representative that represents my district. I spent 5 minutes with the lady, sounded much like the old woman who answered the switchboard in town on Green Acres, Peticoat Junction, or in Mayberry, getting her to correctly spell my name, correctly record the House Bill #, and giving her my return phone number. We truly do live in a state that operates much like the 1950's America my parents knew...

Whoa there 1:05, I was just making the point that the violence in jackson is not indiscriminate as people here suggest. And further, that the probability of being involved in violence is based on choices one makes in life.

Whoa there 1:46 ~ I've been watching these comments for over a year and have NEVER ONCE seen any remarks about crime in Jackistan being "indiscriminate" as you just alleged. Crime has, however, been alleged as rampant, frequent, out of control, exceeding that in Detroit, and unabated. Your continual crap theory that things are cool as long as the victim knows his killer, although an interesting (yet warped) perspective, is bullshit to the tenth power.

Anonymous said...

Sometimes Shadow gets things right. His comment at 3:21 was on target. The commenter that got called out for the belief that since they knew them, WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE? tried hard to backpedal when his/her obvious RACISM was pointed out.

"Jackistan": Gunfire on a constant basis from undetermined points of origin by unknown persons, groups or organizations, intending to wound, maim or kill indiscriminately and resulting in a general atmosphere of fear, severe depression and angst among the general populace except for a small conclave of true believers who manage to remain in denial.

February 4, 2013 at 5:53 PM

Please note "indiscriminate". A simple, "I was wrong" from SF would suffice.

Anonymous said...

It has nothing to do with racism. Just statistics.

Anonymous said...

@5:53... How many homicides have there been so far this year in this city where there is "constant gunfire?"

NICKNAR said...

The definition of Jackustan was the BEST!! I am glad we have a definition now. And to the first comment of this post we will change the name to " The New Republic Of Jafrica" would that make you happier?

Anonymous said...

A SWAC campus in Madison. I Love it !

The "supervisor" working at the Temple of Athena...
( AKA the new Kroger ) may have more to worry about than a broken pickle jar on aisle three.

Anonymous said...

Yes, calling it jafrica would be better because at least then your racism is brought out into the open

Anonymous said...

if city and county leaders celebrate african roots in form of minority contracts etc, why can a white not acknowledge/observe that? perhaps you are racist against that group?

Anonymous said...

Still waiting for acknowledgement from SF that he was wrong. Holding breath.

Shadowfax said...

I wasn't wrong. Try to slow down and read carefully. I said I had been reading these comments for over a year and HAD NOT SEEN crime referred to as indiscriminate. That is a true statement.

Grease up that red herring and sit on it! Your theory that Jackson is a safe place because the dead victims knew their slayers is a crap theory that cannot be supported with reasonable intelligence.

It's almost as silly as claiming that since most victims of crime in Jackson are black, white visitors get a free pass. Sell your theory to Indians, Nissan's visiting engineers or rodeo fans.

Anonymous said...

That troll is an idiot Shadow. Stop feeding it.

Anonymous said...

The "red herring" comment was hilarious Shadow. I needed a good chuckle this morning.

Jackson is a very dangerous place, but I don't plan to become a statistic. So, I avoid Jackson at all costs, especially at night.

Anonymous said...

Look at Bill "shadowfax" Clinton diving deep into the logical fallacies in order to appear to win an argument.
Won't be long before he'll be saying he wasn't wrong because he wasn't sure what the definition of "is" was.

Anonymous said...

As bad as Jackson is, it doesn't even rank in the top 100 cities in the country for overall "dangerous" cities.

With places like Monroe, Birmingham, Memphis, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Texarkana, Little Rock, Atlanta, etc all on the list, it's a wonder that the shadowfaxes on here venture out of their bunkers for fear of "becoming a statistic". I guess that is what the "shadow" "fax" is, a facsimile of a shadow because he's scared of his own shadow.

Shadowfax said...

FBI statistics, like doing the Hokey Pokey, go up and down, in and out. However, why wade into a polluted stream on the mere chance that you MIGHT NOT come out looking like James Carville?

I go into Jackson if I must, but that's rare. Interesting that the apologists and others in denial pretend that's simply unwarranted fear and, ahem, perception.

Again, stats go up and they go down. Here's what seems to be the most recent nationwide FBI comparison figures for Jackson. I guess I need to go less often and get to know fewer people since it's being claimed that if you don't know anybody they won't kill you - or was it "If you get killed, you surely knew your killer". Or something similarly as insane.

"The city violent crime rate for Jackson in 2010 was higher than the national violent crime rate average by 144.39% and the city property crime rate in Jackson was higher than the national property crime rate average by 158.62%.

In 2010 the city violent crime rate in Jackson was higher than the violent crime rate in Mississippi by 265.76% and the city property crime rate in Jackson was higher than the property crime rate in Mississippi by 154.88%."

February 6, 2013 at 6:15 PM - AMEN! No racism here - just the facts. If you don't like the facts, then change them.

Anonymous said...

"Grease up that red herring and sit on it! Your theory that Jackson is a safe place because the dead victims knew their slayers is a crap theory that cannot be supported with reasonable intelligence. "

If violence is so widespread, I am still waiting on just one JJ blogger to come forward and say they know someone that has been shot.

I have posted on this blog numerous times about Juckustan and I'm a chick. I grew up in South Jackson and have watched it go to hell in hand basket since I graduated from high school. I now live in Madison (Praise Queen Mary). I work in downtown Jackson. Several weeks ago, my co-worker's purse was stolen and the guy walked right in off the street and took it. Pretty brazen bastard, I must say. She previously called JPD to report a suspicious looking man loitering around our building. JPD never sent a cop until another co-worker called 911. The thug has still not been arrested.

Shadowfax said...

To the troll who keeps axing for actual evidence of people being shot, here are two that come to mind. A couple of years ago a man staying at the motel closest to the coliseum on the north side of High St was shot and killed at the motel during rodeo week. One of Nissan's senior engineers from Japan was staying at a north Jackson 'Inn' and was shot and robbed in the parking lot. But, hell, what's the point of listing names. Are you really in denial about the crime? This is about as stupid as claiming 'The roaches are only eating other roaches. They're not shitting in your cabinet and infesting your foodstuffs'.

Sure, the statistics deniers will point out that things got better in 2012. Perhaps so. When you're in the virtual shitter, you have to go UP to move at all.

Statistics are like doing the Hokey Pokey; they move up down, in and out, but it's undeniable that Jackburg stays on the high side of crime in national rankings year after year after year.

Of course there's the troll who swirls in denial, claiming you're safe as long as you don't know anybody in Jackburg 'cause if you don't, they ain't gonna kill you, or something like that.

Anonymous said...

I'm confused. Does the national crime rate include rural areas?

According to the FBI, Rankin County's murder rate is higher than the national average.

Anonymous said...

SF so you can think of two cases out of all the shooting that were random. Id say my odds are pretty good. And even then they were not people you knew. It would seem that with all of the violence that you say is in Jackson, and if it is normally distributed.....that's statistics talk.......then you would know someone personally SF.

Anonymous said...

Dear ShyOnFacts, The fact is the truth about the statistics in Jackson do not fit with your narrative, which I fail to understand why you seem so bent on ranting about Jackson crime and you don't live here. I guess a nickel per post from Madison County chamber is worth it.

Anonymous said...

In an attempt to answer this question, a team led by Dr. Arthur Kellermann of Emory University conducted a survey of 388 homes that had experienced homicides. (1) They found that 76.7 percent of the victims were killed by a spouse, family member or someone they knew, and there was no forced entry into the home 84.3 percent of the time. Strangers comprised only 3.6 percent of the killers. However, the killer was never identified in 17.4 percent of the cases

For those of you sitting around Ben Allen's computer who want to deny the statistics, wear blinders regarding crime in Jackson and pretend to be confused, here, for your enjoyment is a repeat post from above. Narrative THIS!

2. 1994 = 91
3. 1993 = 84
4. 1991 = 76

But, all these people robbing, murdering, jacking, assaulting others, surely it's domestic.

At least that's lower than Rankin County's murder rate

Anonymous said...

@6:18. Wow, you sound like a broken record - I think I have seen you copy and paste that very same post three or four times in the past week. Nice vigilance.

As of January 28th of THIS year, Chicago's homicide rate has already surpassed 40. Meanwhile, here in Jackson, as of this date, there have been 0 homicides this year.

How many murders per person does that put Jackson at now compared to Chicago since you are so handy with a calculator?

Anonymous said...

That's bullshit about Rankin's murder rate. Post your evidence.

Anonymous said...

My apologies about Rankin County.

It was Madison County I was thinking of.

In 2011 Madison County had one murder for every 2,195 citizens.

Of the 1,636 crimes that transpire each year in Madison County, just about one half take place less than a mile from home. On average, someone is a victim of a crime in Madison County, Mississippi every 5 hours. This includes 41 murders, 128 rapes, and over twelve thousand thefts (including 844 automobile thefts)

Anonymous said...

You really are an idiot Sparky.

In 2012 there were 8 total murders in Madison County. That is one murder for every 10,927 citizens.

There was only 1 murder in 2011. I won't bother doing the math since you are so hopelessly lost.

Are you sure that is a calculator you've been playing with?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
