And the JFP just can not wait to take a shot at gun owners after the massacre in Colorado. Here is an editorial written by an intern who is from Aurora:
"Already this act of violence has sparked up the gun debate yet again. Getting a gun is fairly easy in Colorado; it's easy to get a gun most anywhere in America today. Everything about our culture seems centered on war and guns. Gun proponents say we need more guns to protect ourselves, but would more people with guns have changed what happened last night?
#The massacre would have likely turned into a massive shootout, with even more dead and injured, because gun owners aren't some sort of heroes. We have a romanticized image of a citizen with a gun saving the day and ending the violence by taking out a criminal by surprise. But in a real firefight, your average Joe is not going to be able to keep his cool. There's a reason it takes extensive training for our police and soldiers to do what they do; there's a reason we trust them with our fighting, and there's a reason shootings like this happen so often in America.
#James Holmes, if he is truly the gunman, was a deeply troubled individual. He is obviously mentally ill and should never have been able to obtain a handgun, let alone an assault rifle and explosives. The ease at which this man was able to obtain all the weaponry he needed for a massacre is unprecedented, and the fact that our system failed to raise any red flags along the way is a testament to how insane our lack of gun control is." Article
Oh really Mr. Irby? Maybe if you tried to learn something instead of using a tragedy to fit your agenda, you might have known about Pearl High School. Since you were a sniveling little punk in grade school when that shooting took place, I'll learn you some history. Luke Woodham went on the rampage. It was already illegal for him to have a gun as he was a minor. He stabbed his mother to death. Oh, knives are legal. He then killed several kids at Pearl High School with a rifle. Want to know how he was stopped? When he went to reload at his car, the assistant principal got his pistol out of his car and stopped him. It kept the massacre from getting worse. Then to confuse your already-confused mind with some more facts, here is something that happened this week:

Trollfest '09
Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.
Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).
Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.
Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".
In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.
In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.
Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.
Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!
This is definitely a Beaver production.

Jackson Jambalaya is the home of Trollfest '07. Catch this great event which promises to leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Dr. Heddy Matthias and Lori Gregory will face off in the undercard dueling with dangling participles and other um, devices. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.
There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. Tom Head will give a reading for two hours on why he can't figure out who the hell he is. Cliff Cargill will give lessons with his .80 caliber desert eagle, using Frank Melton photos as targets. Tackleberry will be on hand for an autograph session. KIM Waaaaaade will be passing out free titles and deeds to crackhouses formerly owned by The Wood Street Players.

It's never wise to make grandiose policy arguments in the wake of an event of this magnitude. Immediate reaction shouldn't be the basis for legislation.
Due to the sheer numbers hardly a week goes by when you can't find a story where someone in this country illegally -- an illegal alien because no one has any proof that the person intended to immigrate legally or illegally -- has caused the death of a legal resident either knowingly or unknowingly, accidentally or not.
But there can be little doubt that Ladd's latest JFP mentally-indentured servant supports the crossing of our borders illegally by those unauthorized to enter our country despite his gun control rhetoric undermining his position.
Since you were a sniveling little punk in grade school when that shooting took place ...
and since you work for a sniveling punk now ...
Anything to suck the oxygen out of the daily news cycle tent in order to draw attention away from the Kenyan's incompetence and record of failure.
"It's never wise to make grandiose policy arguments in the wake of an event of this magnitude. Immediate reaction shouldn't be the basis for legislation. "
Agreed. It shows the general poor judgement of anyone who reacts this strongly, this quickly, without gathering ANY facts before making a judgement.
I wonder what Ted Nugent's opinion would be?
The shooter Holmes could easily be mistaken himself as a JFP intern.
Looks like Dylan's summer Mama DonnerKay missed his Camel's Nose fallacy in the 5th paragraph.
Me thinks the JFP badly needs an ombudsperson.
Actually yes, someone with a firearm in the theater could have ended it if they had thier weapon. You spineless twits had rather a gunman kill indescriminantly than to have someone stand up against them. You know standing up against someone or something that is wron is how this country was founded. Just imagine if there had been one or two good ol boys in there with thier weapon. There undoubtably would be fewer dead but the dead would include the dipstick that came there to kill as many as he could.
The comment in the text about the system not raising any red flags is stupid. You cannot expect the system to do everyhting for you. Another attempt to point the blame at someone other than the one responsible, the gunman. Why can't the one responsible be blamed?? Wuss
If memory serves, wasn't there a rush to judgement when Giffords was shot? Something about her shooter being a deranged right wing extremist? I guess no lesson was learned on the left.
Ban the terrorist organization that spawned this killer a registered member of the democrat party. People have too easy access to this terrorist outfit. The terror begins again at 6 pm this evening when the Gun and Knife Club kicks off in cities all over America. Guns don't kill people democrats do....lol
12:15 said it first. Dude does look like a JFP Intern type.
If everyone were armed (like the old West), situations like this would be less likely to happen.
Well, the lil JFP intern literally copied and pasted his missive from a Denver Post blog...hmmmm, Donna, you fact-checking your folks?
NBC News is now reporting that the gunman dyed his hair red and orange and referred to himself as "the Joker" in conversations with police.
link? Didn't see it on the Denver Post website.
Northpark 10 .... he would arrive at UMC ... D.O.A. (with bullets from 15 different weapons)
Are angry liberals to blame? Are dark movies to blame? Aggressive video games? Guns? Medical schools? The Denver hippy culture?
If there was no such thing as a gun in America, a sociopath intent on having his fifteen minutes of fame could easily have entered the same door, poured out two large cans of gasoline and ignited the crowd who thought he was just a movie prop.
Well, had I been in that movie house (I wouldn't because I don't WASTE my MONEY) I would have pull my Ruger .380 from my pocket and filled that nut full of holes.... LEGALLY!!!!
9:03am that is great except for the fact you would have been charged for carrying a loaded weapon in a movie theater or public gathering of 2 or more liberals. If the thunder don't getcha', then the lightening will!
An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life.
Robert A. Heinlein
Things like this wouldn't happen as often if people weren't scared to stand up and shoot back. Just like the crime rate in Jackson would plummet if each home invader was met at the door with a shotgun. If you kill the thugs they aren't around the breed anymore and aren't looked up to by their peers for being thugs. They are looked down upon as they are lowered in a hole.
Paragraph 7 of Irby's story was shoplifted from a Bill Maher commentary he gave on Real Time about a year ago. Irby did take out the naughty words, but it appears he just flat-out stole the "romanticized view of armed citizens" bit from Bill Maher.
Plagarstealing aside, I wonder how this unpaid intern pansy who lives with his parents reached the conclusion that the outcome would have been no different or worse if the good guys had been armed. Where did Intern Irby get his CQB training that would qualify him to offer such an opinion?
This punk has confused his vast experience as an fps video game warrior with actual real world ass-kicking.
I've changed my opinion of Mr. Crowley and apologize for my earlier negative comments. He's pretty cool after all.
Well, Holmes was not likely to be taken down with concealed handguns ( no one had a chance to go for heavier weapons in trunks) given he was in protective gear from head to toe.
Having a rational discussion about guns is impossible. The extremists on both sides of the issue took control of the discussion decades ago and now most everyone has chosen up sides on this political playground and are entrenched.
We could, however, change law so that we don't have to wait until someone hurts themself or others before getting them treated for mental illness. We could empower family and friends to get help for the mentally disturbed and still protect individual rights.
Holmes mother knew and had no way to get an adult son the help he needed. You can't force an adult to get clinically diagnosed BEFORE they harm themselves or others or unless they are dumb enough to make repeated threats of suicide or intent to do physical harm to someone else.
And, please, the argument that taking preventative/defensive measures shouldn't be done because those measures wouldn't be foolproof is never a logical argument. We'd do nothing ever about anything if perfection were the standard!
Is this tragedy in the wake of previous ones like it not sufficient to give us pause to have a serious rather than emotional discussion on how further such tragedies might be prevented?
We HAVE helped educate kids and parents and teachers in schools how to recognize potentially troubled, dangerous young people in their midst, might it not be time to do that much at least for the general population?
And, I'm not sure I'd hang my hat on arguing that every skilled, responsible gun owner is skilled enough to shoot in a crowd of civilians...especially those fleeing in panic. There is a reason we give police and military special training in this area.
BS. A .38 would hit him hard enough in the chest to stagger him. You can still hit him with head and thigh shots. A vest does not mean the bullets bounce off like Superman. Ask Marshand Crisler how it feels to get hit in the chest with a round or two while wearing a vest.
I've got news for you. Alot of cops are lousy shots and most military people do not train with a pistol. Unless you are in special ops, MP's, or on a pistol team, you don't use a handgun in the military. Mainly the rifle.
10:40 I agree with you and Oliver Wendell Holmes ("The Constitution is not a suicide pact").
We need to keep guns out of the hands on nut jobs, including Army majors/psychiatrists and this most recent loon. It is just self-defense.
Army major was not a nutjob. He was a jihadist on a mission
10:40, Colorado, like every other state, has a law that provides for treatment of mentally ill persons who are a danger to themselves or others. That process can be initiated by family members, and there is no requirement that the person must first hurt himself or someone else before initiating the process. The argument that we need new laws on this subject is incorrect.
Once a person enters the involuntary commitment process, he is deemed to be "adjudged mentally defective," and therefore disqualified from possessing a firearm. Had this process been followed in this case, Holmes would not have been able to purchase firearms, as the dealer would have been told not to make the sale when he called in the background check to FBI/NICS.
We don't need new laws. We need people to follow the ones we already have.
Having a rational discussion about guns is impossible. The extremists on both sides of the issue took control of the discussion decades ago and now most everyone has chosen up sides on this political playground and are entrenched.
There you go again. Everybody is an extremist except you. Go fuck yourself.
KF I see your point. Please realize that some of us think anyone who believes the crap spouted by radical islamists is living in an alternate reality than the rest of us, hence the delusional, nut job status. I agree he was on a deliberate mission, but still delusional.
Curt Crowley - unlike the Virginia Tech shooter there has been no evidence so far that the Colorado shooter ever received psychiatric care by someone obligated to report him if he was a clear and present danger to himself. His mother apparently knew something was seriously wrong but I haven't heard any reliable details. I agree we need rigorous enforcement of laws preventing dangerous, "mentally defective" persons from getting firearms, but I haven't seen anything yet that would have allowed his involuntary commitment (and I have committed more than a few dangerous people involuntarily over the years, although not in CO, but the process is very similar in every state wher I have done this).
Our world is literally full of what we call socially-maladapted or social misfits. Have you seen this guy on television this morning talking to an audience about one of his projects in school? He appears on stage wide-eyed, almost grinning, wearing a shirt that's at least two sizes too large for him, sleeves extending over the hands, moving about erratically, unable to make eye contact.
Not only did he buy all this ammo on-line, he attempted to join a gun-range club and was turned down. The operator says he turned him down because he 'seemed creepy'. How do we isolate all the creepy people? Or do they advance from 'creepy' to 'mass murderer' because they already feel isolated?
There is no perfect system. We don't have a criminal code that stops every criminal, for example, but no one argues not to try to deal with the criminal element in society.
We did, however, have a better system for preventing the mentally ill and addicted from hurting themselves or others until around 1974 and we over-reacted to limited abuses within that system .
Instead of increasing punishment for abusers and adding protections against unwarranted involuntary committments we made it impossible for police, family members, etc. to get help for those who become a danger to themselves or others.
Our mental institutions have become revolving doors . Once a patient, even a dangerous one, is properly medicated, he is released even when it is known he is not likely to have the supervision to insure he continues taking his meds. Only when that patient has already been violent before admission or is not responding to medication, can the staff find reasons to retain a dangerous patient.
Addicts were caught early in the cycle of addiction before so much damage was done to their bodies and brains that recovery was far more difficult.
The courts see " a danger to themselves and others" as meaning they have already hurt themselves or others. Even then, what happens is the violent person gets medicated, released, stops their medications and becomes violent again. When before, that person would not have been released from the mental institution unless there was someone to supervise their medications or they had well demonstrated a determination to self-medicate .
And, KF, jihadists are certainly "a danger to themselves and others". We might not have to wait for our homegrown terrorists to try to hurt someone if mothers had a way to get effective treatment their sons and daughters who have been brainwashed by any religious cult leader.
It is nearly impossible to help someone who is delusional or on drugs unless you can get them medicated for the delusional thinking or off the drugs. Until then, You are talking to the delusion or to the drugs, not to a rational person. You cannot reason with an irrational person.
And, most often, the spouse or family is the first to know that something has dramatically changed. Empower them to act.
We might not have to wait for our homegrown terrorists to try to hurt someone if mothers had a way to get effective treatment their sons and daughters who have been brainwashed by any religious cult leader.
ROFLMAO.
And what do you do if the young jihadist's family is in on it or supports him, as is often the case?
Did someone inadvertently open the electronic locks at the JFP asylum?
And the 99.999999999 percent of the country who are responsible and sane gun owners should give up their second amendment rights? What a simpleton the author is but hey, Hitler and Stalin would love his argument.
KF @11:38 - this is from the Ace of Spades blog linked on your site. Check out the pentultimate entry (that word will weed out the Woodland Hills grads):
FLASHBACK: when Dr. Amy Bishop shot her colleagues, the Left speculated that she was a Tea Partier. In fact, she was an Obama donor.

FLASHBACK: the census-taker was supposedly hanged by extremist anti-tax Tea Partiers. In fact, he hanged himself.
FLASHBACK: the Times Square Bomber was speculated to be upset about [Health Care Reform]. In fact, he was jihadi scum.
FLASHBACK: the guy who flew his plane into the IRS in TX was supposedly a Tea Partier. In fact, he quoted from the Communist Manifesto.
FLASHBACK: the guy who was stabbing NYC cabbies was supposedly an anti-Ground Zero Mosque Tea Partier. In fact, he supported the GZM.
FLASHBACK: the Pentagon shooter was supposedly a Tea Party extremist. In fact, he was a 9/11 Truther.

FLASHBACK: When the Tucson shooting occurred, it was immediately blamed on Tea Party rhetoric. In fact, Loughner was a-political & insane.
Stauffer is spewing more lambs to the slaughter BS. Let me see, about that vest. First of all, a round to the vest in the chest would've staggered Holmes or knocked him down. Ask Marshand Crisler how it feels. Its not a day at the spa. You would still have rounds for a head shot or a thigh shot. As for the tear gas. Theater is a big place and slanted. Tear gas is heavy and stays on the ground. meaning the upper rows probably were free of it. I've been gassed before, It doesn't instantly incapacitate you either. It burns and your sinuses lose everything but you don't do it all at once in 5 seconds either. Anyway, 71 or more were shot so this crap about more people being shot is just that, crap.
Todd and Donna KNOW EVERYTHING King. Haven't you figured it out yet?
They certainly know tons about what it takes to raise a child. How many of their own do they have now? I've lost count.
Did you hear the Free Press caller who called Savage? It couldn't have gone worse for DonnerKay.
Damn, Donna's live-in girlfriend really got his panties in a wad over this one.
It's funny to read Todd Stauffer-Ladd throwing around terms that he clearly knows nothing about ("40 caliber glocks," trying to insinuate that is some heavy firepower).
Ladd's girlfriend needs to stick to things he knows--like cleaning the house, or making Donna look freakishly tall, and let the grown-ups take care of serious matters like gun policy.
KF, I hate to see you go down the " someone could have taken him out if only there were concealed weapons in the audience" road. There is rather a lot of evidence about why this would not have been feasible, much less likely...starting with the citizen shooters having to have sat in the right seats to get off a shot, the number of rounds per minute by the shooter , the layout of the theatre, the effects of the gas on vision, how a psychotic state affects physical reactions ( there's a reason it takes several big guys and a needle to subdue some crazy folks).
This is not the argument the NRA should make. It will play to the choir but it's really starting to piss off some of the cops on the scene. Rush and the NRA ought to have run this theory by them first.
Ax grinding @ July 24, 2012 9:14 AM masquerading as reason.
With polls showing 62% of Americans favor some gun restrictions and given the horror of this tragedy, the GOP ought to be begging , in a close election, Rush , the NRA et.al, to hush up.
But, I guess it's too late now. Bloomberg et al are bombarding the media with reactions thanks to Rush's mouth which is a big as his butt.
@9:14--more bullshit that ignores the reality of defensive firearms tactics.
As far as the police getting "pissed off," to paraphrase NWA, f--k them. To any police officer who gets upset because someone mentions concealed carry in this incident, I would simply say thanks for being there when folks needed you, hero.
That, of course, would not be fair. Much the same as it's not fair for an officer to get mad about people discussing how concealed carry might have changed the result. Analyzing incidents like this is how people learn about what works and what doesn't, and how to prevent carnage next time.
WNEW News reports that Holmes was awarded a prestigious grant from the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md. NIH is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
It gave the graduate student a $26,000 stipend and paid his tuition for the highly competitive program in Neuroscience at the University of Colorado in Denver. Holmes was one of six neuroscience students at the school to get the grant money.
