Local blog lays the wood to Wicker's office

Local blog Downtown Jackson Trash fired a few nukes at Senator Roger Wicker and his staff. Apparently a member of Roger Wicker's staff has an ownership interest in a nightclub downtown drawing the ire of a few downtown residents. Wicker staffer Saleem Baird is the CEO of Average Joe Entertainment (SOS website). Won't spoil the rest of the fun for you. Here is the link.

This is great. Way to go Curt.

Damn, Wicker pays his legislative correspondents more than 50k?

When I was an LC for a Southern Republican senator in the early 2000s, the salary was in the high 20s.

The job traditionally consists of answering constituent mail.

I wonder why Senator Wicker values Mr. Baird's services so highly?

I don't wonder jack about what this job pays. I DO wonder why KF didn't simply call the senator to get his comments on this story.

Had the senator fired this man, half of you would be up in arms over a senator attempting to control what people do. And more than a few of you would allege that Wicker has showed he doesn't care about inner city Jacktown. The white boy just can't win, can he?

Yes Shadow, I'm going to go behind every media story I see from other outlets and sites and call for the other side. Nice try at starting something. In case you haven't noticed, most of your comments that just try to stir things up or only throw mud have not been approved.

hahahhahahahhaha - SHADOWFATTY - what KF is trying to say please take your dumbass services somewhere else

That blog is a Johnny-one-note blog that only talks about nighttime in Downtown Jackson, a place that most of us, even Jackson homeowners, have given up on. It is of no interest to anyone who doesnt live in downtown Jackson, and seems to make the shaky notion that the realtor and renter should be held responsible for what goes on there, rather than the perpetrator.

Raises some troubling issues for those who live in the King Edward and Standard Life. Is this yet another part of Jackson where you run home and lock yourself in?

+1 for @10:17.

10:17, it's a one-note all right, but it's striking a chord, apparently.

Downtown is a problem for everyone. This is our state's capital city. There's plenty of blame to go around, and Crowley is making sure some of those responsible

If you think a landlord has no responsibility for what his tenants do, then I hope you're not a landlord. If you are one, hire a lawyer. Maybe Crowley will provide you with his services.

I agree 11:28. He is illuminating how broken the city leadership is, quickly turning an area that is trying to "fix" itself, into a continued shithhole like Highway 82or West Jackson.

I wonder how Belhaven, Bel Aire, Fondren and the other neighborhoods in the city would react to this slime in their backyards. I shudder to even mention Madison, Clinton or Brandon.

I'm pretty psyched about Curt's blog. Enjoy his dry sense of humor and his very real take on situations.

Nice Job Curt!

Btw, has Steve Simpson ever explained how or why, with 26 states *already* suing to overturn Obamacare, it would be an efficient use of MS tax $$ for us to join in litigating the case?

Which Supreme Court justice was going to say, "whoa, MISSISSIPPI is against it too? Now I'm convinced it's a bad idea!"

Even my conservative friends find this quite lame.

I like that this website is more concerned with exposing "jackassery" than protecting a particular party. While I've seen some things on other farther left and farther right sites that I haven't seen here, I'm guessing that has more to do with JJ's emphasis on original content and reporting than anything else.

When I don't have time to look at 10 different sites, it's nice to have somewhere I can go that's relatively close to center and a "one stop shop" for what's going on around me. Keep up the good work!

From reading the story, it appears ( perhaps incorrectly) that Saleem is not a landlord but has an interest in the business.

And, frankly, the $50000 a year salary for a part time job is as disturbing from a Senator who is supposed to be fiscally conservative. SOME senator who represent areas where the cost of living is high might can justify that amount, but here?

Anonymous said...

SUPPOSED to be conservative. Wicker's fellow conservative Thad Cochran is the king of earmarks. Let's face it, all politicians are crooks.

Hahaa Shadowfatty. That one will stick.

Oh Lord...now even the Spork guy has a blog? Geeesh.
Blog? More like a Blahhhhg

Anderson @ 4:15 - I agree it's a poor use of scarce MS resources to join a lawsuit at this late date, but I think it's a strong argument to explain why he would make a better AG than his opponent, who apparently is totally gutless when it comes to prosecuting thieves. Thanks, KF, for exposing all the cases (Steadivest, etc) that he won't touch ("It would be like prosecuting family, wah wah wah").

3:59,

Hood's office is currently in Hinds County Chancery Court defending the administrative penalty imposed on Steadivest.

But maybe your understanding of "touching" a case is different than mine.

Why is it that when a Republican is involved in something sleazy then rather than acknowledge it, it is pointed out that a Democrat is as sleazy or more sleazy and, vice versa. The same is true for white or black bad behaviors.

Wouldn't it be better to just rid ourselves of the sleazy? Shouldn't each party and each race get the " smote out of their own eye" ?

We might, in time, rid ourselves of the sleazy and corrupt.

Then there would be no elected officials.

(Insert "feature, not a bug" retorts.)

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
