Help the Mississippi Animal Rescue League

I went there last Saturday and they are pretty low on food right now. I know other websites support them and ask for their readers to donate food to the MARL but I'm going to go one step further. If you go to Briarwood Pet Store and buy dog or cat food and tell them it is for the MARL, they will hold it until I come by there and deliver it to MARL. They sell Natural Balance (which they need for dogs that undergo surgeries), Science, and Iams. It can be a 5, 15, 0r 30 lb bag, doesn't matter. Just spend 5-10 bucks on some pet food and I'll take care of the rest. They are open until 5:30 during the week and 5:00 on Saturdays. Its asking alot for many of you to drive 30 minutes or so to the MARL so I'll make it easy on ya. Help the MARL and stop by Briarwood on Canton Mart Road (next to Hickory Pit).

Update:
If you live out in Madison area, Bill at Snooty Pooch said you can get it from him for the same deal. In fact, you can call there and use your credit card over the phone and he will hold the pet food for me to pick up and deliver. He sells Wellness, Eaglepack, and Merrick lines. Some of these brands seem more expensive than what you see at Kroger but since they are higher quality, they last much longer so it evens out in the long run. When the pet gets full, he stays full and isn't hungry again a few hours later. Most of the blends are also allergy-free formulas. Just tell him it is for MARL.

Go buy some dog food folks. 10 bucks for a 5lb bag isn't much money to spend but will help quite a few cats and dogs. Skip the coffee at Cups or that six-pack of beer for one day. ;-)

You don't want us to buy it at that Pooch place?

I'm going to call him and ask him if he'll do that. Briarwood is where I normally go as I use NB for my dog. He's on a real strict diet of NB sweet potato and fish. They said they would so I put them up.

What is your drop dead date to get over there? Can't get there today.

Kingfish said...

No deadline. Lets say through the end of the month. I go to Briarwood every single week so its not like its anything extra for me to do.

EXCELLENT idea!

Thank you, SO much for doing this.

And it's a great time for people to run by and do it, too. Lots of people off work, out of school, etc.

You are the bestest! Will stop by in the next day or so and buy some. Thank you again!!

That is one pampered dog KF. Didn't understand why until recently when I was scanning the C-L classifieds and read where someone was offering Lebensborn quality pups like yours for $2000 each. There wasn't a single other pup offering, any breed, above $900.

Damn dude, you must be loaded.

You can find good deals on Cavaliers if you are patient. I just rescued one from a puppy mill in Arkansas for $50. Also got another one for free a few months ago. I didn't pay anywhere close to a thousand for Louis XIV. Problems with Cavaliers is you have to go out of state as there are few breeders in Mississippi.

Listen Kingfish. I'm into felines. Pussys and cats. So your premise is that if I feed my cats higher quality food it will be a wash because they'll need less volume? Don't bother answering about what to feed the Pussys. I've got that figured out. ;)

I am merely saying some people freak when they see a five pound bag costing fifteen dollars when the purina crap is half the price and don't know that it evens out in the long run as the higher priced one lasts longer.

I have a two year old cat with respiratory problems that would not respond to antibiotics. After reading KF's blog about NB pet food, I got a bag the very next day. Within 4 days the problem was gone! Have been using it for 4-5 weeks now, and wouldn't care what the cost was. Kf, you're the best for sharing all your info. I appreciate it!

As a Kangaroo fan, I'm an very aware of rescuing dogs. Beagles are my passion to save given the continued throw away mentality of their owners. I must say you ALWAYS get what you pay for with anything in life. If you take the time personally to buy food that is NOT processed in your own life you will find that food will last longer. As a lifelong consumer products salesman I am keenly aware of shelf life. Here's a real simple one, buy organic milk, it lasts for at a minimum a month. You would buy 3 in that time if you buy processed. Test it yourself. I'm not a nutbag for buying organic, but, with milk, I'm right on. More to follow in the future....btw, my 5 guys opinion seemed to resonate.

KaptKangaroo said...

Oh yeah, and, well, these guys wouldn't be giving high kudos without knowing that in the end, the dog is healthier. Decide for yourself. Try it. What do you have to lose when your dog is healthier and your dog food budget is no different?

Kingfish said...

When I buy milk it lasts about two days as I drink so much of it. Doesn't matter if its organic.

KaptKangaroo said...

Fair enough...I don't drink that much milk...but the Roos doo....

Doesn't MARL get discounts for buying in bulk?

Kingfish said...

Some but they are still very short and well, alot of people are more comfortable donating the food itself than just writing them a check. They are also ASKING for dog food donations, not money to buy it.

Expensive foods ARE better. They have less junk fillers (hint: Melamine) so they fill up the animals longer and they POOP less. With two cats, pooping less is a lifetime goal of mine.

I agree with the organic milk comment. We don't drink a hell of a lot of milk in my house so an organic gallon is worth the extra money for the extra three to four weeks it is good.

Fish-you don't mind drinking all the hormones, antibiotics and pus that fill up regular old milk? :) Totally gross!!

I buy Blue Buffalo for my fur babies. I refuse to buy anything else. I can really tell a difference.

Kapt,

you're a beagle-'roo??? I am too!!

I have a beagle baby. Is the LOVE of my LIFE. Sleeps on my shoulder every night. They are the SWEETEST. Smart...loyal...just want to please. I can't imagine anyone could consider them disposable..? Have they seen their fwoppy ears? their eyes, and little hound feet??

I don't want to hear the horror stories, would break my heart. All I know is, it's hard to beat a beagle. Mine is the BEST dog I've ever had.*

*should also note I have a lab who i love very much, too. ((enter guilt here))

Kingfish said...

Blue Buffalo is good. If I was going to recommend something at petsmart, that would be it.

Kingfish: It's been a tough week. So, to greet Friday post a photo of a nice dog or cute babe. BTW, good job on Kim Wade's program yesterday.

Anonymous said...

There are no pics of babes on this blog anymore. Only animals.

Kingfish said...

Several bags have been donated. Thanks and everyone please pitch in.

Kingfish said...

Tried the organic milk tonight. Seemed like it had a better taste to it.

KaptKangaroo said...

Organic milk doesn't contain hormones, so it will help prevent, Man-Boobs. So in a sense, you can mark that concern off the list.

Now if you want another recommendation, buy the more expensive free-range, hormone free, eggs. You will never buy the cheap ones again. They contain a much higher level of protein, so, you don't need to eat as much and they taste phenomenal. And, you will be less likely to develop feathers from the drugs they give them.

Kingfish said...

Funny. vewwy funny. I had an unopened bottle of the regular milk so I ran a little taste test. Seems the organic version had a fuller flavor to it. As for eggs, no thanks. Don't eat eggs. Yuk.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.

Sonjay Poontang and his band headline the night with a special steel cage, no time limit "loser must leave town" bout between Alan Lange and "Big Cat"Donna Ladd following afterwards. Kamikaze will perform his new song F*** Bush, he's still a _____. Did I mention there was no referee? Dr. Heddy Matthias and Lori Gregory will face off in the undercard dueling with dangling participles and other um, devices. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell.
