Lord Protector Tate Reeves issued the following statement. 

Hitachi Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE: 6501, “Hitachi”) is expanding its operations at its transformer manufacturing factory in Copiah County, Mississippi. The project represents a corporate investment of $528 million, the company’s largest investment to date in the U.S., and it will create 654 jobs.

Hitachi Energy is a global leader in electrification that manufactures transformers and other equipment to help power the nation’s homes, businesses and communities. The company’s current facility in Copiah County produces small power transformers and employs 475 people.

The expansion will significantly increase Hitachi Energy's production capacity and expand the range of small power transformers manufactured domestically, helping meet growing demand across North America while strengthening the domestic supply chain for critical energy infrastructure. The project includes the purchase of a 45-acre site at the Copiah County Industrial Park in Gallman, the construction of a new facility, new manufacturing equipment and infrastructure improvements.

The Mississippi Development Authority is providing assistance through the Mississippi Flexible Tax Incentive, or MFLEX, program. MDA also is assisting with site development and infrastructure improvements. Copiah County is assisting with the project, as well.

Construction is expected to begin later this year, with transformer production scheduled to start in 2029.
