Gluckstadt Getting a Park

The city of Gluckstadt issued the following statement.

The City of Gluckstadt is proud to announce a partnership with the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation through the awarding of a generous grant supporting the construction of Gluckstadt’s very first community park. This exciting investment represents far more than the development of recreational space, it reflects a shared commitment to creating spaces that promote the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of Gluckstadt families for generations to come.

The goal of the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation to promote healthy living and create opportunities for Mississippians to thrive aligns closely with the City of Gluckstadt’s vision for building a vibrant, connected, and healthy community. The Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation has long championed initiatives that encourage healthier lifestyles, stronger communities, and increased opportunities for Mississippians to thrive through physical activity, wellness education, and access to healthy environments. The future park will serve as a place where children can play, families can gather, neighbors can connect, and the community can enjoy the many benefits of spending time outdoors.

By investing in Gluckstadt’s first community park, the Foundation is helping create a place where residents of all ages and ability can enjoy walking trails, green space, family gatherings, a state- of-the-art playground and splashpad, an outdoor fitness area, and meaningful time spent outdoors.

The 26,000 square foot outdoor recreational area will boast 43 pieces of contemporary inclusive play equipment, with rubber safety surfacing and shading systems. Research consistently shows that access to parks and recreational spaces improves overall community health outcomes, reduces stress, encourages active lifestyles, and strengthens social connections among families and neighbors. This partnership highlights the importance of proactive investments in preventative health and wellness creating opportunities for residents of all ages to unplug, enjoy sunshine and fresh air, stay active, and build healthier habits in a safe and welcoming environment.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation for believing in Gluckstadt and sharing in our vision for a healthier community,” said Mayor Morrison. “This park will become a lasting asset for our residents and visitors alike, a place where memories are made, healthy habits are encouraged, and families can enjoy time together for years to come.”

“With a vision for a healthy Mississippi, the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation is proud of its partnership with the City of Gluckstadt to support the city’s first 21st century park,” said Eugenia King, Foundation Director. “Enhancing community health and wellness by creating spaces that encourage healthy lifestyles for all ages ensures Mississippians have access to the resources needed to thrive and develop life-long positive habits about health and well- being.”

The City expresses heartfelt gratitude to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen for their leadership, vision, and continued support in helping make this transformational community project a reality. Their dedication to investing in the quality of life of Gluckstadt residents continues to pave the way for meaningful growth and lasting opportunities for the community.

Additionally, the City recognizes the invaluable contributions of Public Works Director Chris Buckner, Executive Assistant Amber Trotter, Planning and Zoning Director Caine Dearman, City Clerk and Grant Administrator Lindsay Kellum, and Assistant City Clerk and Co-Grant Administrator Scott Maugh, as well as consultants Andy McCrory and Ron McMaster, Jr., whose expertise, guidance, and countless hours of work have helped bring this vision to life. Their collaborative efforts and shared commitment to the future of Gluckstadt have played a critical role in achieving this important goal. The addition of the city’s first park marks another historic milestone in Gluckstadt’s continued progress and dedication to creating a thriving community for all.

The Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation has a vision for a healthy Mississippi and provides leadership and targeted grant funding for sustainable initiatives and programs to improve the overall health and well-being of Mississippians. Learn more about the Foundation’s partnerships at www.healthiermississippi.org. Additional details regarding park features, construction timelines, and future community celebrations will be announced as the project progresses. Oh, I thought it would be funded with traffic tickets from their new founded Police Dept. Lord knows they have the revenue for it.

Oh boy! I'm sure that the surrounding neighborhoods will be able to walk to it right??

Gluckstadt is the most piss poor suburb ever. 0 planning. and I know most of it is the county's fault but it is such a miserable area. Bumper to bumper traffic, shitty roads, chain food joints galore, cookie cutter car-oriented housing. Only redeeming factor is the Sullivan's grocery. Every town needs a Sullivan's.

Where will the park be located within the city?

Google reveals that it will be across from Rick's Pro Truck

The cities only get a small portion of a ticket.

Ah, that's what all the $1,000 tint violation citations are for.

"Community Park"? 26000 sf is just a tad over 1/2 acre -- barely larger than a residential lot. Hard to imagine how you fit walking trails, green space, family gathering space plus all the other stuff they mentioned into such a footprint. Nice I suppose but large schools and churches have a larger area for recreation for kids & families.

Fancy Pearl gets a park. Neat.

They don't have enough space to build anything meaningful or plan something. They have limited space.

You can blame a certain engineer and his friends for the layout. There was one road the county was expanding. One side was pretty much vacant, one side had homes. The original designed called for placing the extra lanes on the side of the homes, taking away part of their property. After they raised hell...... change order!

Those are pretext stops to discover felonies.

It’s a playground. Not a park.

I miss the old days when
Gluckstadt was only an unincorporated little community of descendants of the original German farmers.

They had a cool historic church and a great "Octoberfest" style German festival once a year.

This "new town" is an embarrassment to the original folks that choose to move to that part of Madison County over a century ago.

The greedy county board members ruined the area.

6:54 for today's win.

It's actually a decent size 'city playground'. If you're standing on the goal line of a football field, train your eyes on the 50 yard line and add 4 yards. 54 yards square is the rough size of this planned venue.

Good thing they incorporated - Gerald Steen would never have allowed it unless it included one of his convenience stores with diesel pumps.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
